Chapter 206: Chapter 206 - Towards city X

Fire blazed through what was once their path. The only land bridge that connected the city to City S had been reduced to nothing but smoke and flame.

On either side, the river surged, deep and wide.

City A was completely surrounded by deep rivers, making it almost like an island. The only way in or out had been a single land bridge that connected it to City S. But now that the bridge had been destroyed in the bombing, they couldn’t escape that way anymore.

With no roads or bridges left, the group’s only option was to travel on foot through the entire city to reach the far side—where the ruins of an underground metro tunnel led beneath the river toward City X.

It was their only chance to get out before the city was wiped out completely.

Technically, they were trapped.

"We can’t leave through here," Yunfeng said quietly.

A heavy silence fell.

"yunfeng!!!" Hana came running with Yuki still clinging to her back as she threw herself at Yunfeng, hugging him tightly.

"Stupid brother!!! You’re alive!"

Yunfeng hugged her back, quickly scanning her for injuries. Her face had a few cuts and her legs too, but overall she was uninjured. "You’re scarred," he joked.

Pouting, she hit him hard. "I thought... I thought you left without us," she said, her voice cracking.

He pulled her in tighter. "Why do you think I’d leave without you, hmm... stupid girl."

"Umm..." Hana then backed away with a disgusted face. "Ew... why the heck are you naked?"

That was the moment Yunfeng realized it himself. Embarrassed, he cupped his family jewels, coughing. "I could use a spare shirt, please."

Muchen immediately took his T-shirt off and handed it to him.

Yunfeng wore it, but it barely covered his butt. He embarrassedly pulled at the hem.

"Oh my god, this is even worse!" Hana ran to Qui Yue and tore his doctor coat off him.

"Hey!"

"You have no use for this anyway." She ripped it off him and threw it to Yunfeng.

Yunfeng wore it. The long coat came down to his knees. He quickly buttoned it up and hid his darn ass.

Zei leaned on a half-burnt railing, panting. "What now?"

Yunfeng exhaled. His hands were trembling, but his voice came out steady.

"We go underground."

Muchen looked at him in surprise. "The tunnels?"

"There’s a metro line that leads under the river to the other side of the city. If we follow the service path, we can reach the checkpoints on the far side and head toward City X."

"That’s at least ten kilometers," Hana whispered.

"I know. And we have seven hours before they drop the next wave of bombs."

Muchen nodded slowly. "Tunnels... I don’t like tunnels," he mumbled softly.

Yunfeng cupped his face. "It’s the only way out of here."

"We don’t have much time to waste," Yunfeng said, holding Muchen tightly, as if letting go would make it all collapse again.

"Wait," Muchen tugged gently on his sleeve. "The bikes. We can ride them through the tunnels."

Yunfeng followed his gaze. A pile of debris sat atop what used to be their getaway vehicles. One bike’s wheel barely peeked out from beneath the shattered stone and bent steel. Yunfeng’s brows creased.

"Are you serious?" he muttered, skeptical.

But Muchen nodded firmly. "They work... that Qui Yue guy said something about remodeling something. I have no clue. It just works."

Yunfeng hesitated a second, then took a step forward. Dust kicked up beneath his boots as he crouched and gripped the twisted metal with both hands. A second passed. Then, with a grunt, he pulled.

The rubble groaned as Yunfeng heaved it aside with raw, inhuman strength. Muchen stumbled back in surprise, watching his lover lift steel and stone like it weighed nothing. Yunfeng wasn’t just determined—he was something else entirely.

Soon, not just one, but all the buried bikes were out.

Zei whistled low. "Remind me not to piss you off. Damn, you’re strong too."

Yunfeng didn’t respond. He just brushed dust from his hands, walking over to start one of the bikes. Muchen climbed on behind him, wrapping his arms around Yunfeng’s waist with a quiet squeeze that said more than words ever could.

Jai hopped on another bike with Hana, who clung tightly to his back, still shaken. Zei and the others took their usual spots, the hum of engines piercing the quiet tension in the air.

"We still need to find Kailun and the others," Yunfeng called over his shoulder.

Jai turned sharply. "My grandpa... is he okay?"

Yunfeng nodded, a faint smile breaking the grim lines of his face. "He’s good. He made it."

Relief flooded Jai’s features. He blinked hard, trying to hide the wetness forming in his eyes.

They drove fast, cutting through alleys and shattered streets until Yunfeng raised a hand and pointed. "There—behind those cars!"

Soldiers in bloodied uniforms peeked out cautiously before someone sprinted forward.

"Yunfeng!" Kailun’s voice cracked as he rushed over.

And then Jai’s name burst from his throat. "Jai!!"

The young man barely had time to blink before he was scooped into a fierce, bone-crushing hug.

"I thought I lost you," Kailun whispered, cupping Jai’s face with both hands. "You scared the life out of me, boy."

Tears slipped freely down Jai’s cheeks. "I’m sorry, Grandpa... I—"

"When we get home, I’m going to whoop your ass."

Jai’s mouth dropped open. "W-What?!"

"I mean it," Kailun growled, eyes wet. "No disappearing like that again. I’ll tie you to my damn belt if I have to."

"But—but I’m your lovely grandson! I’m cute! You can’t bear to hit me, right..." Jai said with a trembling voice, half-laughing, half-sobbing.

Kailun didn’t even blink. "Cuteness won’t save you. You’re getting a whopping."

Everyone around chuckled softly, the kind of laughter that tasted like smoke and relief. It was a brief moment of light in the middle of everything falling apart.

Yunfeng leaned back into Muchen, who rested his chin against Yunfeng’s shoulder.

"You okay?" Yunfeng asked softly.

Muchen nodded. "Hmm mnn... I just..." He hesitated, debating whether to tell him about the blood staining his pants. His hands touched his stomach anxiously. The child... it must be okay, right? He leaned close to Yunfeng’s shoulder. Smelling that familiar orange scent, his stomach pain slowly disappeared. He felt soothed and calmed just by inhaling his natural scent.
