Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]-Chapter 207 - Five hours to go
Chapter 207: Chapter 207 - Five hours to go
Kailun and the others climbed onto the remaining bikes without hesitation. There wasn’t time for comfort or rest. Engines roared to life, and with Yunfeng leading the charge, the group tore through the broken city streets.
The wind howled past them, thick with ash and the stench of decay.
Zombies littered their path, shambling out of alleyways and broken storefronts like roaches from a cracked wall.
But Yunfeng was an unstoppable force.
His eyes glowed faintly as his hand lit with flames, sweeping a swath of fire to singe the nearest zombies into cinders.
The others followed suit—Jai gripping a sharpened mop, jabbing it with precision, while Zei yelled and shoved zombies aside with wild swings.
Hana’s arms trembled, but she swung too, protecting Yuki behind her.
Even Qui Yue, always silent and composed, fired at any creature that got too close.
The road blurred beneath them, but then—
A shadow passed overhead. A low, familiar rumble filled the air.
The fighter jets again.
They flew low, cutting the skies in a clean V-shape, their presence more terrifying than comforting this time.
"No—no no!" Jai shouted, looking up in horror. "Grandpa! Can’t you talk to them?! Tell them to delay the bombs!"
Kailun, seated tightly behind Qui Yue, had his jaw clenched. "Shinju is trying," he called back, voice grim. "But they likely won’t wait. The infection’s spread too fast. If it leaks into other cities..."
He didn’t finish. The unspoken part clung heavily in the air. They all knew what it meant.
Jai’s voice cracked. "But there are still survivors! Kids! Families!"
Kailun looked away, his voice dropping. "They’re prioritizing containment. And besides... it’s not just the infected anymore."
"What do you mean?" Jai asked, confused.
The old man’s eyes flickered with something cold and haunted. "You kids didn’t see it, huh? The giant fruit bat?"
Jai blinked. "No. I only saw an infected tiger and—ugh—don’t remind me. That thing chased me through three buildings. I don’t want to think about it ever again."
Kailun gave a dry laugh. "The bat had wings wider than this damn street. Thought I was dreaming until it snapped a van in half."
A chill ran down their spines.
Muchen tightened his arms around Yunfeng from behind, his breath warm but shaking. "You... you faced that thing?"
Yunfeng slowed the bike slightly, eyes on the cracked road ahead. "Yeah."
"How did you survive?" Muchen whispered.
Yunfeng chuckled softly, a light flush coloring his face. "Well... I sort of... made it into a kebab."
Muchen blinked. "What?"
"That’s why I was naked," Yunfeng added with a sheepish grin. "Fire got a bit out of control. Burned my clothes. But hey—it stopped the bat."
For a second, Muchen just stared at him. Then he pulled Yunfeng tighter into his arms, burying his face in his back.
"You idiot," he murmured, voice breaking. "You absolute idiot. Don’t risk yourself so much... what will I do if something happened to you."
Yunfeng’s chest squeezed at those words.
The chaos around them momentarily dulled.
He hadn’t even realized how much he needed to hear that.
Having a power felt good, yes. But what really mattered was this.
That he could protect the people who made his world worth saving.
That he could make Muchen feel safe.
"Hold on tight," he said gently, touching Muchen’s hand over his stomach.
After nearly three hours of weaving through the broken veins of the city, the group finally reached a crumbling stretch of road just past what remained of the city center.
The buildings around them had lost their symmetry—some bent at strange angles, others reduced to skeletal remains. The air was thick with smoke and an eerie silence that only came after too much death.
They pulled their bikes to a halt near a ruined roundabout. A burned-out metro sign still faintly read "Qingjiang Road." Dust clung to their clothes, and sweat dripped from their temples.
Yunfeng unstrapped his bag and dug through it, pulling out a wrinkled, half-burnt city map. The edges were singed black, and parts of the legend were scorched to unreadability.
"What happened here?" Zei muttered as he leaned over, tugging at the bag’s strap with a raised brow. "Did you show your rage on your backpack or something?"
Yunfeng gave him a dry glare. "No. Fire bat incident. Do you want to keep your eyebrows?"
Zei raised both hands in surrender and backed off with a whistle. "Touchy."
Muchen placed a gentle hand on Yunfeng’s shoulder, silently grounding him. The tension eased from Yunfeng’s jaw as he laid the map flat over the hood of an abandoned car. Everyone circled around.
"We’re here," he said, pointing to a mark near the center of the map. "This area—Xincheng District. The bridge to the south is gone. And the main road to City S..." He trailed off, eyes flicking toward the scorched bottom of the map. "Useless now."
Hana leaned in, her face pale. "Then how do we get to City X?"
Qui Yue brushed dust from his sleeves. "Isn’t there an emergency access tunnel?"
Kailun nodded slowly. "Yes. The under-river tunnel—an old utility route beneath the Wei River. It wasn’t designed for civilians, but in times of war, it could be used to connect to the rural outskirts, which lead to the national highway toward city X."
Jai frowned. "But wouldn’t that be... submerged?"
"It’s supposed to stay dry unless damaged," Kailun said grimly. "Let’s hope it hasn’t collapsed."
Yunfeng traced the route on the map. "If we follow Shuyuanmen Street and cut through the Beilin District ruins, we should reach the north entry point near Fengqing Park. From there, we’ll reach the tunnel access."
"That’s... about fifteen kilometers," Muchen murmured. "And we’re low on fuel."
"We’ll go on foot from here," Yunfeng decided. "It’s too risky to take the bikes through the highly populated areas. They are too noisy."
Everyone nodded, though weariness was etched into their faces. Still, not one of them hesitated.
Zei adjusted his mop-spear and nudged Yunfeng lightly. "Just don’t burn the map."
Yunfeng gave him a tired glare, then rolled the map up carefully and tucked it back into his bag. "we can make it in time for sure."
