Chapter 59: Intense Training 2

Kaizer was in a slight daze as he came out of the medical pod and lay in the lounge. After all this time, it was only just about to hit 12 pm, and while he felt hungry, his fatigue was greater.

Of course, after drinking a lot of water and lying down for a bit, his accumulated fatigue and stress subsided a little, allowing his rumbling stomach to be heard. Naturally, the lounge area came with an assortment of snacks and food, some of which could be prepared himself and some which could be quickly heated.

As he was in no mood to try his luck, the young man simply heated up some burritos that had scrambled eggs, cheese, chopped bacon, and chopped sausages within, swallowing down around 6 of them before going to lie down once more to let it digest.

However, he soon had to get up and walk to the center of the training room with a look of resigned suffering, knowing that the truly difficult part was about to begin.

"Student Kaizer, you are to sense and avoid the projectile attacks for an hour while all your traditional senses are cut off. A cumulative three strikes by any projectile will denote failure, requiring a repeat from the start. Please step on the marked area to begin." The AI instructed heartlessly.

Kaizer saw a red circle appear in the center of the room, along with a table. Walking into that area, he saw a strange mask that looked a bit like Iron Man’s headgear for his Mark IV suit. Guessing that it was likely meant to suppress his senses, Kaizer took it and put it on, immediately feeling himself cut off from the outside world.

However, this barrier that blocked his normal senses was like a paper-thin wall to his telesthesia, which easily spread out throughout the room. The moment he put on the headgear, the training began as a basketball manifested silently in mid-air and hurtled toward him as if someone had kicked it with full force.

Kaizer was rather easily able to dodge it with a slight movement, tracking its momentum as if it were moving in slow motion.

After this, the type of projectile switched up. First, it was one ball of various sizes, from as large as a football to as small as a marble, then they became two of different types, then three, then four, switching up the intensity every ten minutes.

By the time he was in the final stretch, Kaizer was having to sense and dodge 6 projectiles of various sizes and speeds coming at him from different angles. When the projectiles stopped spawning, the young man was still tense and alert until he realized that time was up and it was his rest period.

With a frown, he took off his mask and felt a bit tired physically from all the movement, but his mental fatigue was barely touched. However, he wasn’t surprised because his telesthesia was currently his strongest aspect of his psychic power, even more so than his telepathy and telekinesis.

He understood that this was supposed to test his alertness and sustained focus in a high-intensity situation, but like a soccer player running on the treadmill for 5 minutes, it was barely enough to warm him up, much less push him to the limit.

Kaizer did not like pain and suffering, but he would not deliberately hinder his own growth. He made a note to report the lack of intensity to the dean so that he can increase it.

He still went into the medical pod for his 5-minute recovery, which did refresh him a bit, but not much. After that, he casually rested in the lounge for the 25-minute free period and did not distract himself with short videos on his phone like usual.

Rather, he was waiting for the next segment and when the time came, he breathed out lightly before standing up to head to the center of the training room.

"Student Kaizer, you are to use only telekinesis to deadlift a saloon car and keep it afloat at least 50 meters from the ground for 10 minutes."

The command was set, and a Honda sedan formed in the room, just before him. Kaizer breathed in deeply and focused, casting his mental power outward and encapsulating the vehicle, lifting it up into the air exactly 50 meters before stably holding it there.

In just 3 minutes, the compartment started to wobble as his face became red, but he held on. The ten minutes seemed to take hours in Kaizer’s opinion, but since a saloon car was not as thick nor heavy as an SUV, much less the Escalade, he was eventually able to last the ten minutes before dropping the car and rubbing his throbbing temples.

He was not necessarily overtaxed and could continue, but he was not having a good time.

"Student Kaizer, you are to use your telekinesis to strike the large sphere into the designated area 10 times. Please begin."

A large round sphere made of marble formed in front of Kaizer, about the height of his waist and as wide as a small table. Kaizer briefly sensed it and realized that this marble was quite heavy, at least a normal bodybuilder couldn’t lift it.

Looking ahead, there was a small circle area marked in red where he was supposed to push the sphere into with a single strike, sort of like playing telekinetic golf, but with a heavy golf ball.

Kaizer’s brow furrowed because he would have rather preferred to lift something heavy compared to this which required precision, calculation, and skill. It was now he realized that his mindless lifting earlier, despite the pain, was actually more preferable because it simply required resilience.

Kaizer struck the sphere but actually missed!

Telesthesia helped him focus a lot, but the necessary force was not easily unleashed, and even though he did well, he missed the position by a little bit. For the first time, he actually failed a part of his training and was required to restart this part again, which was fine with him since trial and error would make him successful.

However, Kaizer soon realized that this was a different kind of hell. Saying it required calculation was fine, but the necessary detail without having access to a mental calculator was actually a matter of guesstimation, something that every normal person had to work with.

Like how a person who had a cookbook and followed the recipe down to the letter could still end up with a meal that wasn’t that great compared to what his mother made from the same cookbook. There were minute calculations like how to stir, how much spice to throw in, and where that changed the entire flavor.

One’s first attempt at cooking will naturally be unadaptable but with time, it would get better. One’s first attempt at driving would likely be very disastrous, but later, one can even daydream while still maintaining perfect form behind the wheel.

Likewise, Kaizer had to build up experience and get a feel for using his telekinesis for extremely precise actions. Probably, even the dean didn’t expect him to have so much trouble here, but this also highlighted one of Kaizer’s most lacking areas that he himself was unaware of.

As such, even when the 2-hour period came to an end, Kaizer’s longest streak was 7. He wasn’t able to get ten times in a row at the end, but during his last few tries, he had gotten it more than he missed, so it was likely that he would master this in a short while and overcome this limitation.

Kaizer went to the pod and lay in it, feeling his overtaxed brain that had been locked in calculations slightly cooling down and his temples stopped throbbing, relaxing significantly. He almost fell asleep right there and then, but was ejected from the medical pod, yawning slightly as he set an alarm on his phone, then napped on the lounge’s couch.

The ringing of his alarm made him open his eyes as he had 5 minutes before the final combat test of the day, so he walked to the fridge in the lounge and found some energy drinks, which he swallowed.

By the time he came to stand in the center of the training room, his grogginess faded away, and the energy drink kicked in slightly, giving some more focus as he shook his head.

"Student Kaizer, the final session for the day is to trade blows and survive the onslaught against a combat dummy. If you are knocked out and defeated, you will have to restart the entire session, even past your allotted training time." The AI voice informed, making Kaizer’s face change as he instantly woke up, any remaining relaxation beaten out of him.

Just like in the testing center, a white dummy that was similar to a sculpted mannequin formed before him, entering a combat stance as it faced Kaizer.

Kaizer also entered a combat stance, ready to receive its attack when an explosion was heard as the dummy broke the sound barrier in an instant and arrived before him, throwing out a punch!
