Psychic Overlord-Chapter 60: Combat Training
Chapter 60: Combat Training
Despite the exaggerated scene before him, Kaizer remained calm, as even at this speed, he could still track the combat dummy within his psychic domain. He saw the power-packed punch that tore through the air coming for him, opting to dodge it with a slight movement, reminiscent of when he was avoiding projectiles.
Then, he also unleashed a blow of his own, packed with the power of his telekinesis behind it, and Kaizer immediately realized the difference. When fighting against Barnes back then, he had to exert 90% effort using his telekinesis and 10% using his body, with his telekinesis having to do most of the work to enhance his power.
After the upgrades and the recent training, he noticed that his telekinesis’ workload was reduced by a small amount since his body was stronger and more limber than before. This small increase, when combined together, actually multiplied exponentially upon his final power output, causing his punch that struck the combat dummy’s chest to form an air cannon that would have shattered windows if this were a hallway.
Sending the dummy flying, Kaizer did not pursue. Even the young man who was reserved and placid most of the time could not help but be in a daze, looking down at his hands as if disbelieving that he had actually managed to do that.
He knew he was strong, as even before coming to the Esper Academy, he had been training daily with Rina using his own routine, so he would measure his progress after. However, Kaizer now understood the difference between self-training and training from a qualified instructor, especially in results.
In this one week of training at home, he had even conceitedly thought that he was soon reaching the peak of his current power and could ’progress’ further if any ’willing’ enemies presented themselves before him, but now he understood that he had not even tapped into 1% of his potential.
No wonder the Dean was confident that the current him could become the strongest after a few years of intense training. Kaizer now fully believed it, even without his special growth ability, he would be able to stand atop the Esper World!
The combat dummy struck the wall and dug itself out quickly, charging back toward Kaizer using its abhorrent speed. Kaizer snapped out of his daze and refocused, this time slightly focusing his telekinetic power forward. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
A telekinesis cannon of raw power struck the dummy, sending it flying again, while pasting it against the wall with its limbs outstretched. While Kaizer was all up for a heroic hand-to-hand exchange, he was not a single-track-minded idiot.
Telekinesis could be used in so many ways to take down a foe rather than engage in fisticuffs, and this was just one of them. Kaizer held the dummy like this, but then let it down, sighing that there was no point in that since this was training.
So he obediently fought with the dummy head-on, testing his power and utilizing various moves he conceptualized. He especially tested his psychic barrier, which was able to receive the blows relatively well, and even took it a step further by trying to condense the barrier in certain areas.
By the time the 30 minutes were over, one could say that this was less of a combat test and more of a cat playing with a mouse, with Kaizer being the cat. He truly believed that it wasn’t that the Dean was underestimating his power, but this was likely the highest strength the AR technology could output right now.
He still got into the medical pod for the last time and rested in the lounge, having a short snack to fill his stomach while he opened his phone and began reading the novel he had been on before Carla attacked him back then.
It had been a week or two since he last read, so the number of Chapters had increased. When it hit 5 pm, Kaizer got up and left the training room, seeing that many of the other rooms were now open.
After all, for most students, training was a matter of 1 to 2 hours of intense practice purely focused on their esper power, then they were done for the day, able to attend classes and other extracurricular activities.
Who would spend 8 hours training like Kaizer if not to become the strongest?
Kaizer sighed and exited the center, getting into his car, which was now quite lonely in the near-empty parking lot. While pulling out of the lot, he texted Rina to see if she too was done, because he doubted that Madam Sylvia would work her as much as the Dean did.
It took Kaizer about 5 minutes to arrive at the Academy Mall, and it was truly a bustling location. The road stretched wide as the car approached and from a distance, the building loomed over the area, a massive structure of glass and steel, its smooth walls reflecting the sky. Large, glowing signs displayed its name, shifting colors to match the academy’s emblem in an LED fashion.
The parking lot spread far, with neat rows of cars and smooth pathways for pedestrians, which were almost full. There was a fancy digital board at the entrance that displayed the few open spots, guiding drivers with arrows and a digital ticket. As the cars in front of Kaizer rolled forward, automatic gates scanned for clearance by inserting their Student ID, then slid open without a sound.
At the pedestrian side of the entrance, waves of students of all ages moved in groups, some chatting, others focused on their devices, or waiting for their friends to arrive. A few carried bags filled with books, gadgets, or training gear, coming from either classes, the testing center, or the training center like Kaizer.
The main doors of the mall stood tall, glass sliding open as people passed through using the basic detection system. Above the entering students, a massive screen played highlights of recent academy events, including important announcements and student gossip.
Kaizer easily pulled into a space after going through the procedures, the car settling as the engine shut off among countless others on either side. Stepping out, the air smelled rather fresh, with a hint of food and hot rubber from tires drifting into the young man’s nose.
As he walked toward the large entrance, he could hear some trendy hip-hop music played softly near the entrance, blending with the noise of conversation from countless beings.
In places like this, Kaizer directly switched off his telepathy because it would be a problem if he could sense all the thoughts around him, but he naturally left his telesthesia up. For that matter, he detected Rina rather quickly, who was still wearing her training attire that was conservative.
However, there was a bit of dirt mixed with sweat, causing the t-shirt to not be as fluffy as it had been, displaying some of her figure. Luckily, the number of beautiful girls coming and going were plentiful, some dressed skimpily enough that all eyes were on them, with few reserved for Rina.
Rina was looking around for Kaizer and spotted him quite easily. While Kaizer was handsome and distinctive with his slicked-back hairstyle, there were also countless fit young men coming and going dressed even more fashionably than him, but one thing they could not replicate were his blue eyes that were like torches.
No matter who, when meeting Kaizer for the first time, his blue eyes were the first thing that you would notice, and they would sear themselves into your mind.
Just like now, rather than look through the sea of faces for Kaizer’s, she simply looked for powerful blue eyes and found them with ease. Kaizer approached her and was about to greet her when Rina took the chance to hug him overtly, leaving Kaizer helpless.
Eventually, the two entered the mall and walked into the mall directory at the front, looking at the sheer number of stores available. They selected the clothing shops they would visit, then the gadget shops and finally some appliance shops before moving out.
The duo then went on a shopping rampage, getting all types of clothing from casual, formal, sports, and more. If you thought that Kaizer as a man was averse to this, you would be wrong. As was clear from previous outings, he took his fashion very seriously, and that was a strong part of his charm.
By the time they were done, they had spent around $50,000 and had around 15 large shopping bags floating behind them with just clothes of the highest quality and grade. People were surprised by this but did not look too much because telekinesis was not rare in the academy, but few could lift this much as most telekinetics were of a weaker variety.
The gadgets shopping was even worse, Kaizer completely bought himself a new top-end PC for $12,000 that could likely run as an industrial server on its own, while Rina got a slightly less powerful version in all pink.
They then got second phones, laptops for business, casual and gaming, tablets, one of each type of gaming console as well as a lot of accessories. By the time they were done here, they had spent around $35,000.
