Psychic Overlord-Chapter 64: Continuous Training
Chapter 64: Continuous Training
Kaizer was amused by their thoughts and did not try to dissuade them despite it being in his best interest for the long run. People who were talented like this were usually very egotistical, and nothing could shake their own conclusions and beliefs apart from the hard truth.
"Hoh? The Dean, huh? Hey, wanna try some sparring? I’m interested to see how strong you are?" Tessa requested while standing up, looking as if she would duke it out the moment Kaizer said yes.
Kaizer shook his head and stood up along with Rina. "I can’t. The Dean has given me a hellish training schedule that starts at 9 am and ends at 5 pm. If I miss even a minute, the penalty is unbearable."
"Damn!" Roland exclaimed, mirroring the feelings of all five.
Their assumptions became even stronger because even their trainers didn’t make them train that intensively. Each day, they had to practice for a maximum of three hours, and even Rina was only made to work for five hours while she spent the rest of the time learning theory.
Yet Kaizer trained for eight hours straight, and missing even a bit resulted in a penalty? How could this not be training geared to create a monstrous powerhouse?
Hearing this, the five who thought they were the protagonists of the world began to feel immense pressure. Right now, this guy had only just been admitted, but if he trained like this for another two or three years, would they even be able to stand in his presence?
Everyone aspired to take the position of strongest and command the esper world, but no one wanted there to exist a strongest esper that wasn’t them. After possessing power akin to the superheroes in the comics and movies they watched as children, they wanted to live free and do as they pleased.
Who could tolerate another Reaper that dictated the law and set the boundary for the entire esper world to follow?
Kaizer did not say more and left with Rina, the eyes of the five burning into their backs as they left. Even Rina could feel the tension and challenge, the attempt to ’befriend’ and ’network’ completely falling through as their colleagues were now outright competitors.
"Well, that sucked." Rina remarked casually, walking with Kaizer towards their cars.
"It’s normal. They will give up and turn into admirers when they realize the gap between us and them." Kaizer stated bluntly, in a rather out-of-character manner.
Rina’s eyes lit up and she hugged Kaizer’s arm. "Oh! That is how the future strongest should speak~"
Kaizer felt the softness rubbing on his arm, which was likely intentional, and sighed with difficulty. Every day there was a new temptation, and he was confident in his ability to resist. Sooner or later, he would fall down the path of evil, it was just a matter of time...
Eventually, they both boarded their vehicles and left, going to their respective training areas.
Entering the Training Center and clocking in at room number 1, Kaizer began his training for the day. The physical part was slightly easier than the day before, but when it came to the telekinetic training, he was still somewhat stumped by the second challenge, which was to precisely push the large ball into the center in one hit.
However, unlike the day before, he managed to get the hang of it rather quickly, and a new exercise was issued to him as the remaining time for this overall session was not over yet.
"Student Kaizer, your current task is to bring the sphere to a stop within the range with one strike. Failure means that you will have to start again. Please step into the marked area to begin." The AI voice instructed.
The same large sphere manifested a distance away, with a blue marked area for Kaizer to stand and a red marked area for Kaizer to stop the ball within. When he stepped in the blue marked area, the sphere immediately started rolling over quite quickly, around 5 meters per second.
Kaizer analyzed it and watched carefully, waiting for the right moment when it was about to enter the blue marked area and then released a calculated blast of psychic force. When this force acted upon the ball, it countered its built-up momentum and caused it to slow down significantly.
Rather surprisingly, it stopped within the blue marked area quite easily, making Kaizer’s furrowed brows relax. Once he got the hang of using precise telekinetic force to move a large and heavy object in one attempt due to the last exercise, he seemed to have shattered a certain wall and entered a new level of control.
Surprisingly though, the sphere manifested again and began rolling, though at a much faster speed of 10 m/s. Kaizer raised an eyebrow but still focused and struck forward when the time was right, causing the sphere to slow to a stop within the marked area.
After that came a sphere that moved at 15 m/s, then 20 m/s, and so on until Kaizer was eventually stuck at 45 m/s. He remained unable to perfectly stop the sphere until the training session ended, always a little bit too early or a little bit too late.
However, he was not discouraged by this and rather realized that he still had room to grow within his current power bracket. The best part was that all of this would still be perfect for training even after he increased his limits using his special ability obtained from Rina.
After that was the usual combat training, in which he toyed with the dummy, trying a variety of moves on it. The dummy was set to be twice as strong as it was last time, but even this level of power was not enough to faze Kaizer, especially since the dummy had no powers of its own, just speed and strength.
At 5 pm, he left the Training Center, his clothes soaked with sweat from the physical and mental training, but he still felt somewhat good. He noticed that the patronage of the Training Center was dropping slightly, but that was normal as summer was coming, so it was time to go and relax.
Kaizer sat in his vehicle and drove back home, actually able to eat a little bit of dinner this time with Rina. However, he was soon dozing off while halfway through the meal, which prompted Rina to try and sneakily take a picture.
The moment the flash occurred, Kaizer woke up and seized the phone with telekinesis, deleting the picture right away. Rina knew she couldn’t defeat her brother yet, so she simply folded her arms with dissatisfaction and allowed it to happen.
Understanding that he really was quite tired and shouldn’t push himself, Kaizer stood up and went to his room, not even bothering to take a shower before plopping onto the bed and falling asleep rather quickly.
The morning came, the alarm rang, he cleaned himself up, had breakfast, and set out. No instructor was lecturing today, so he went through his training routine once more, conquering the 45 m/s sphere but getting trapped by the 70 m/s one.
After training, he went straight home, had a bit of dinner, and then went straight into dreamless sleep for over 10 hours.
Like this, two weeks passed.
By this time, Kaizer and Rina were a lot more familiar with the Esper Academy, its layout, its society, and its hidden rules. Their faces were also a lot more visible to students of the academy, and their information was dug out and spread around.
Two new Special Echelon S class espers, one with the rarest S+ potential and another who was likely the next candidate to be the strongest, all from one family. To say this caused an uproar in the school was an understatement; even the entire esper society was abuzz with the news.
After all, there were not even a total of 500 million espers spread across the world. Espers were the 1% of society, being rather rare if they were not gathered in esper-focused places, which was why Carla dared to hunt so casually, never expecting to meet an esper like Kaizer.
Among this 1%, not even 0.1% of them were A class espers, much less S class. Every single S class esper was well documented, and their footsteps carefully watched by all parties because these fellows could likely level an entire modern city if given time.
That was also why they could name themselves and have others refer to them by their titles because they were that few. Even in the academy headquarters with thousands of students, there were only seven S class espers at the moment.
However, Kaizer and Rina did not much feel this because the young man spent most of his day training mindlessly while the young lady was sequestered in Madam Sylvia’s estate for personal training. It was only when they went to public classes that others had a chance to see them.
They had not participated in any missions or extra-curricular activities, but that was soon about to change as today, Saturday morning, Kaizer was summoned to the Dean’s office by the man himself.
