Chapter 60: Spirit Stone Mine (2)

"My Liege, They’re not lying. Still, we should place Curse Seals on them—just in case," she whispered, appearing genuinely cautious.

"Okay. Do it."

As Igaris gave the command, Evernight’s eyes glowed faintly crimson, her fingertips tracing invisible sigils through the air.

Next, dark mists slithered around her, subtle and silent, coiling like serpents in wait.

Without warning, thin black tendrils darted out from her hand, piercing through the shadows and latching onto the five summoners.

They stiffened in place—Max most noticeably—as the Curse Seals embedded themselves into their spiritual cores.

"What—!" one of them gasped, clutching his chest.

Max gritted his teeth but didn’t resist. "Senior... what is the meaning of this?"

"Precaution," Igaris said coolly, his gaze as sharp as the mountain wind. "You may not have lied yet, but betrayal blooms fast when temptation grows stronger. This is for insurance."

Evernight nodded, and said in silky voice:

"Don’t worry. The seals will only activate if you attempt betrayals. Consider it a gesture of trust—on our terms."

The group exchanged uneasy glances but remained silent. They knew better than to protest against someone who could tame Alpha Wyverns.

Igaris turned his gaze toward the canyon.

The terrain below was jagged and vast, steep cliffs hugging either side like jagged jaws. And nestled within a natural crater at its center was a blackened clearing pulsing faintly with spiritual mist.

Even from above, Igaris could feel it—the pressure. Spiritual energy thicker than air, swirling with unseen force.

"That’s it," Evernight said softly. "The Spirit Mine."

Igaris nodded, his eyes narrowing. "How well is it guarded?"

"Two Infernal Wyverns roam its edges. And... something else is buried deeper. I can feel it. Something powerful."

Max cleared his throat, still slightly pale from the seal. "We didn’t dare go too close, Senior. The Wyverns were enough to scare off even our strongest. But with your strength—"

Igaris raised a hand, silencing them.

"You all can leave now. We’ll take care of things from here."

"Ah, yes. Okay," they nodded.

Reluctantly, they watched as the trio descended into the canyon, gliding down atop a floating rock platform crafted by the sturdy Golem.

Afterward, as Max and group headed to the place they came from.

"They’re strong," Max muttered while walking, his expression grave.

"So... you’re really not going to inform the Freedom Force about the spirit stone mine?" another asked, fear creeping into his voice. "If they find out we betrayed the organization, they’ll kill us."

Max looked helpless. "We can’t now. She placed Curse Seals on us. We might die if we try."

"Haha... Come on. She must’ve been bluffing," said one, laughing nervously. "How could a goddess-like figure know curse abilities? Wouldn’t that make her a Dark Summoner?"

"Yeah, I agree. No way someone that beautiful and graceful could be a Dark Summoner," added a younger man, visibly relaxing.

"But... what about this heavy feeling on my spiritual core?" Max asked, glancing around. "Don’t you guys feel it too?"

"Haha... that’s probably just another one of her abilities to scare us," said the man with crooked teeth dismissively.

Max looked at him with annoyance.

"If you’re so confident, then why don’t you pick up the tablet and inform them yourself?"

The man’s smug expression faltered, his face turning pale with panic.

"Why should I? I don’t want to die yet," he muttered, clearly embarrassed.

"Then that’s settled. We leave things as they are. The higher officials won’t find out anytime soon anyway."

But looks like they celebrated too quick.

"Bastards... You lowlife scums! How dare you betray the organization?!"

A sudden, thunderous voice suddenly roared from behind them.

They froze at the sound, dread creeping into their bones. Slowly, they turned around only to see a group of men storming in, each of them bearing the Freedom Crest on their uniforms.

From the look in their eyes, it was obvious: Someone had sharp ears, and had heard everything.

Realizing this, Max and the others turned pale with fear.

---

Unbeknownst to the turmoil unfolding on the surface, below in the canyon, Igaris and Evernight treaded carefully along a slippery, rocky path. The sun had risen high in the sky, but the towering, cracked canyon walls blocked much of its light, casting long shadows over their route.

Still, the deeper they ventured, the more Igaris could feel the ripples of energy stirring in the air. His Six Directional Sense picked up faint distortions like echoes in the wind.

After several minutes, they came upon two terrifying Wyverns standing guard before the entrance of a naturally formed cellar, their massive forms exuding silent menace.

Igaris, Evernight, and the Golem King hid behind a massive boulder to assess the situation.

"What do you think, Mountain? Can we take them on?" Igaris asked cautiously.

The Earth Golem King shifted his gaze to Igaris after pressing a hand to the ground, his Earth Perception sweeping the terrain.

"Master, they’re just Fire and Wind Class Wyverns. We can take them on. But..." His gravelly voice deepened. "I sense something else. Something unknown. Something powerful."

Igaris narrowed his eyes. "Evernight?" he called out, noticing her distant look.

"Yes?" she replied, pulling her gaze away from the entrance.

For a moment, it felt like her eyes were peering into a world beyond their own, seeing something no one else could.

Igaris shook his head and said,

"Forget it. Let’s take down these two first. Then we can see how strong they really are."

He stepped forward and raised his hand, activating [ Rock Boulder Throw ].

Fireball wouldn’t be effective against Infernal Wyverns, but a well-placed boulder might be enough to rattle their bones. It wouldn’t pierce their scales, but it could break their stance.

The Mountain King followed suit, conjuring jagged stone javelins in midair, each one levitating at his command, ready to strike.

Evernight let out a soft sigh and summoned the [ Chains of Judgment ], their glowing links coiling like serpents behind Igaris.

If it were night, she could’ve summoned Malthius. With him, this would’ve been over quickly.

But even without him, Igaris felt confident.

Together with Evernight and the Mountain Golem King, they could win.
