The crimson portal tore itself wide open, shrieking like a wound in the very fabric of reality. And then... he stepped through.
Trigon the Terrible monstrous, immense, and terrible beyond imagining.
He emerged in full, standing taller than everything around him, his skin a blazing inferno of red, glowing with ancient runes that pulsed like a heartbeat of pure evil. His six blazing eyes scanned the underground chamber, taking in the cracked altar, the kneeling guardians, and his daughter standing defiant before him.
With a slow, deliberate motion, Trigon raised his arms and flexed. The sound of bones cracking echoed like thunder, and an unnatural heat radiated from his flesh, warping the air around him.
He inhaled, deeply, as if savoring the world he wants to lay ruin in.
"Ahhh... the stench of Earth," he rumbled.
"Soaked in fear, poisoned by hope... and utterly unprepared."
"This wretched place.. Needs to change now."
He stepped forward. Every footfall trembled the ground, loose rock raining from above. His horns scraped the edges of the ancient chamber, and yet he kept growing, empowered now by both body and soul.
Raven clenched her fists, her cloak billowing in the rising heat.
She was already chanting, her voice calm but firm.
"Now, Father... since you are truly one body and soul..."
Her eyes flashed brilliant violet. Her voice sharpened.
"It's time for your actual seal one that you will never be able to escape!"
She raised her hands toward him, and the air exploded with arcane energy.
"Azarath... Metrion... Zinthos!!"
A violent surge of violet magic burst from her palms, slamming into Trigon's chest like a divine hammer. The spell coiled around him, light lashing across his massive frame like serpents of pure will. The room screamed with magical pressure as Raven poured everything she had into the spell her pain, her hope, her very soul.
The magic engulfed him completely.
His form was obscured in light. The ground cracked. The kneeling possessed heroes fell completely still, their connection flickering. And for a moment... just a brief moment... Raven thought it worked.
Then
The light was gone.
Burned away in an instant.
And Trigon still stood.
Unscathed.
He tilted his head slightly, six burning eyes falling onto her.
"Oh... daughter," he said with a mockery of tenderness.
"Still clinging to the illusion that you can stop me, did you really think I didn't anticipate this?"
Raven took a shaky step back, her breath caught in her throat.
"No... It should've worked... it should've.."
But Trigon turned his gaze from her, as if she were already beneath his notice.
"After all you are my daughter, and I want you to see what I'm about to do to this world," he said, voice swelling with promise.
"Every man, woman, and child broken, their minds shattered beneath the weight of despair. just like back then in Azarath.."
"Their souls... offered up in flames as my banner is raised over this cursed realm."
"There will be no more hope. Only obedience. Only ashes."
Raven tried again she began forming a new spell, her hands trembling, her lips parting
But Trigon looked at her. Just looked.
And instantly, fire chains of pure force burst into being around her, wrapping her mid-air, binding her limbs and silencing her spell with a crushing grip. She gasped, eyes wide, as the spell fizzled on her lips.
"You will watch," Trigon said, his tone now cold as iron.
"You will witness their end."
He raised his clawed hand toward the chamber ceiling. The earth above trembled and the very stone cracked.
And with a roar of ancient power, Trigon began to levitate. His massive form rose effortlessly, burning with raw demonic might. As he ascended, the very rock and earth above him began to melt, exposing the modern world sunlight above, briefly shining down on his monstrous form.
The Earth itself began to quake.
He was rising.
Ascending.
To unleash hell upon the surface.
****
Doom clawed through ancient rock, pulverizing stone like it was sand. Arthur stood tall on his back, cloak flaring from the wind of their descent. Every second was a blur of black and gray rushing past them until the world changed.
Arthur's glowing blue eyes flared wide.
He felt it, no, he sensed it. A force so monumental, so drenched in magic and hate, that it cut through the countless magical traces that Arthur felt beneath the city. It wasn't just powerful it was ancient. Endless. Awakened.
"What the hell is this...?"
In that moment a blur of red fire and black smoke screamed past them, rising toward the surface. Time seemed to slow. Arthur's eyes followed its monstrous silhouette red, horns, six burning eyes ascending like a god of ruin.
He whispered, breath caught in his throat.
"Is that... Trigon?"
His words hung in the air. The aftershock of the being's presence left a pressure in his skull, and for the first time in a long time he felt small especially after the fact that Trigon paid him no mind.
Doom roared and smashed through one final wall of earth, bursting into a vast chamber lit by crimson fire and ash. Arthur leapt from his back and landed with a crunch, boots crushing the edge of a demonic sigil carved into the stone.
What he saw froze him for a heartbeat.
Raven, bound to the ground, struggling against chains of living fire that hissed with Trigon's foul essence. Her cloak was torn. Her face pale. Her voice silent.
Around her, kneeling like dark paladins guarding their master or prisoner, were the possessed Justice League members Superman, Aquaman, Hawkgirl, and Black Canary their eyes void, skin marked by twisted runes, shadows swirling around them like armor.
Arthur muttered under his breath.
"Aaaaand I guess we're too late..."
His eyes flicked from face to face. Even now, corrupted, they radiated power. But he wasn't afraid, he was annoyed.
"Superman... and a bunch of nobodies," he sighed.
"Just my luck. And of course... I've used that one shot I had on The Flash...the others are with Robin so I can't do it the nice way."
The Kryptonite sword materialized in his hand with a hum, the green glow pulsing like a heartbeat. He tilted his head, eyes scanning the bindings around Raven.
"I'm starting to hate spells and magic and all of this demonic filth... I'm tired."
He looked straight at Raven.
"Idiot!" he barked. "I just want to confirm one thing.. Was that Trigon I just saw flying his demonic ass up through solid rock?!"
Raven lifted her head weakly, voice hoarse, her soul heavy.
"Yes..." she breathed, eyes lowered. "He's free... I messed up..."
Arthur sighed hard through his nose, muttering as his grip on the sword tightened.
"Good Lord... You really are an idiot, ugh fine. Just stay there," he growled.
"I'll take care of these guys."
His shadow twitched beneath his boots. Then stretched. Then expanded like a living wave across the ground, swallowing light.
Arthur smiled not out of joy, but out of resolve.
His voice dropped, quiet, firm, commanding:
"Come forth."
From the edges of the room, shadows twisted then exploded upward.
Doom who was already standing by his side, his monstrous fists flexed, red eyes locked onto Superman.
Quick, red-black electricity crackling across his frame, zipped to Arthur's flank like a loyal knight.
Galatea, floating just a little above ground with folded arms, her eyes already glowing as she set her sights on Hawkgirl.
Ultra his cape fluttering behind his massive violet frame.
And Empress, stepping forward like a phantom, silent, waiting for the moment to strike.
Arthur lifted his Kryptonite sword slowly and pointed it forward. No words were needed. Not with them.
They understood.
[Monarch's Domain] activated, further enhancing his shadows strength.
And in one terrifying instant the Shadow Generals surged forward like a tidal wave of death.
The chamber erupted into chaos.
Galatea blitzed through Hawkgirl, the clash ringing like thunder.
Ultra met Aquaman with a boom that cracked the floor.
Quick and Empress danced through Black Canary as if they were toying with her.
Arthur stood still.
Sword in hand his smile was fading.
"Let's see how much of your soul is left, Man of Steel..."
Doom beside him, hulking and silent.
Across the chamber, the possessed Superman hovered his four eyes burning red.
They locked eyes.
A single breath passed.
Arthur's grip tightened.
Doom growled low.
Superman tilted his head, then lunged.
So did Doom.
So did Arthur.
