SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God-Chapter 105: You are serious?
Chapter 105: You are serious?
Kate snorted and finally wriggled free enough to bop him on the head. "Stop it, you big dufus. I am right here, okay." She leaned forward and pecked his cheek, again hugging him. "I am right here and I am not going anywhere."
She put her arms around Damon’s neck and looked into his eyes. The crimson eyes might be new, but they were also the same pair of warm and kind eyes that she had known all her life. Her lips parted to say something when Mark stirred awake with a loud groan.
Kate instantly pushed away from Damon, faster than a cat on caffeine. She spun around so quickly that she nearly tripped over her own feet.
Mark, still groggy, sat up and squinted at both of them. His voice was hoarse. "I feel so damn weak and tired. Can we just go back to sleep?"
Kate laughed in a weird, high-pitched way. "Maybe we need some blood." She joked.
Damon nodded. "You are probably correct."
"Huh? What?" Kate snapped to look at him. "You don’t mean... you are serious?"
"Yup. I am damn serious." Damon told her about how he had almost killed someone when he had first woken up as a vampire.
Kate’s eyes widened as she listened. "Ughh. So, where am I going to find blood now? This is going to become tricky very fast. The three of us are going to end up in some government lab as lab rats if we are not careful."
Damon was about to say something when Mark suddenly spoke up. His voice was serious now, and there was no longer any sign of weakness or tiredness in him. "I know exactly who can give us some blood. That woman is back. Guess what. She brought her latest sleeze bag along."
Mark tossed the phone to Kate, who went through all the messages their mother had sent them in the last couple of days.
Kate’s face twisted with a mix of annoyance and dread as she scrolled through the messages. "Ugh. Her again? I thought she said she was going on a retreat. Somewhere with no reception. Preferably forever."
"Nope," Mark said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "She’s back. In town. And she’s apparently very eager for a family dinner. Tomorrow."
Kate’s expression soured. "Of course she is. Probably wants to introduce us to boyfriend number... what, sixteen?"
"Seventeen," Mark muttered darkly. "He’s a lawyer this time. A defense attorney. From some sort of hot shot family. She made sure to mention that like five times."
Damon decided to give the two some space and started on coffee. As the scent of rich, dark roast began to fill the kitchen, Damon leaned against the counter, listening quietly to some songs in his headphones while the siblings vented.
However, the two new vampires sure enough caught the scent of coffee and arrived next to him in a jiffy. "Why does this smell so good?" Kate directly kidnapped the coffee mug from Damon’s hand. She took a sip and her eyes went wide. "This is freaking unbelievable."
Looking at her reaction, Mark poured one for himself as well. He took a cautious sip, then froze. "Holy crap," he muttered, staring at the mug like it had just revealed the secrets of the universe. "This actually tastes so much better now."
Damon chuckled and made a new one for himself. The three of them then continued to drink their cup in silence when suddenly Mark lowered his mug and glanced at Damon with a serious expression on his face. "I think I am going to make a mistake."
"What do you mean?" Damon raised a brow.
"That woman. I don’t want to meet her, but I am afraid I won’t be able to control myself and go to that dinner. If I do that, then I might end up doing something I regret for the rest of my life. I don’t want to let you down, and I don’t want to betray your trust, but I don’t know how to deal with her."
Damon did not say anything. Kate spoke on his behalf. "Block her, brother. She doesn’t deserve to have us in her life. We cannot keep falling for her act every single time. We are not going to drag Damon into this now. Just block her already."
Kate stormed away into the bathroom, but Damon definitely caught the tears in her eyes. Mark was not doing all that good either. It was their mother who behaved like this. He did not know how to console the two of them. In the end, he could only do what he could.
"Hey, if you want to go and meet her, just go. I am sure you can keep everything under control. You can try wearing some sunglasses for the crimson eyes."
Mark gave a soft, bitter laugh. "She didn’t come back when her own daughter was sick and was lying on her deathbed. I don’t need to see her anymore. I thought I needed some sort of closure, but maybe that will never happen. Leave it. I am done with her. It’s best to just block her after all."
The sound of running water stopped. Kate returned, her eyes puffy but dry, wrapped in one of Damon’s oversized hoodies like it was a suit of armor. "Shall we go somewhere out or back to our old apartment? I need some clothes for Pete’s sake."
"Right. I forgot about that." Mark scratched his head. "Let’s go. Damon, are you coming with us?"
Damon thought about it for a moment. He could probably go as he had nothing better to do. Maybe he could practise some magic or do some workout to condition his body but he was damn tired at the moment. "Actually, I think I am going to crash for a bit. You both go ahead."
Sleep won over, and he collapsed on his bed, lazily waving the duo goodbye. Both of their bloodlust were in control for now, and they should be good for a few more hours. He set an alarm after 3 hours just to be safe and closed his eyes, waving goodbye.
Kate shook her head helplessly at the guy and smiled as she pulled a blanket over him. She and Mark then left the apartment together.
