Chapter 108: Slaughter ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Damon stepped out of the apartment complex, appearing silently in a nearby alleyway. He still did not have absolute control over [Shadow Step] in real life and appeared in front of the guy instead of behind him.

"Oops." Damon grinned. "Hi there. Did not mean to startle you."

The muscular man revealed a shocked expression, but he instinctively reached for his gun. But Damon was faster than him. Before he could draw his weapon, blood splattered from his neck, and Damon made sure not to waste any of it. Fresh blood energy filling his body was a wonderful feeling after all.

The man dropped without a sound, eyes wide in disbelief as his life drained away in seconds. Damon caught him by the collar before his body hit the ground and eased him silently to the pavement. Then he thought of the next problem. Disposing of this body.

"So tedious." Damon clicked his tongue. He had already checked that there were no cameras in or around their street so he did not have to worry about being caught on camera but the dead body was still going to be a pain the ass.

Damon’s gaze then fell on the car, which was parked out by the alleyway. Of course. The guy had probably followed them to their apartment in this car. "Alright. I should put the trash where it belongs." He lugged the body into the back of the car and then closed it shut.

He took a minute to make sure no one else was around in the area. Damon’s eyes narrowed as he scanned the quiet street. No pedestrians. No dog walkers. No drunks stumbling home. Just the hum of a few parked cars and the rustle of wind in the trees.

He opened the driver’s door, slid in, and checked the dashboard. The keys were still in the ignition, and the air inside smelled faintly of sweat, coffee, and gun oil. Typical goon scent? The center console had a burner phone and a half-eaten protein bar.

He started the car and checked the map. Thankfully, the recent routes were still there.

And one of the marked locations immediately stood out.

"Wexley Heights." Damon’s eyes narrowed. That was the name of a posh, gated community on the outskirts of the city, a place with iron-wrought gates, security patrols, and cameras at every corner. It also happened to be the last destination this car had visited... just an hour before dinner.

"Hector’s den, huh?" Damon muttered, a slow grin stretching across his face. "How considerate of you to leave me a direct trail."

He pocketed the burner phone after taking a quick glance at its messages. Most of it was random chatter, check-ins, times, but the last one read:

"Confirmed. Girl identified. Secure her after extraction."

Damon’s fingers clenched the phone until the screen cracked. He dropped it onto the passenger seat and pulled the car out into the quiet street, keeping his posture relaxed but his senses sharply tuned.

He didn’t blast music or drive erratically. Instead, he melted into the traffic like any late-night driver heading out of town. Wexley Heights wasn’t too far. An hour and fifteen minutes if the lights stayed green.

The city lights slowly thinned out as the roads led him farther from the noise, from the chaos, from the warmth of Kate’s trembling body leaning against his shoulder.

The car’s tires crunched onto the asphalt shoulder as he slowed at the next intersection. The sky had darkened into a stretch of cold velvet, clouds rolling low overhead. A few minutes later, the digital security signs of Wexley Heights began to peek through the trees.

He had always thought that this was a fortress for the rich and rotten, and Hector fit in perfectly. Damon slowed down the car, planning to park it outside, but surprisingly, the gates opened up for him without any issue at all.

Damon’s eyes narrowed. It looked like they recognized Hector’s vehicle and let him in without any questions. He drove the car past a couple of mansions until he arrived at the one where the car had started.

Several cars were parked out on the driveway, and it looked like Hector was home. Damon quietly parked the car, and his silhouette then disappeared from the car’s front seat. His face was covered by a piece of fabric torn from the other guy’s shirt, and only his crimson eyes were visible.

The next second, he silently appeared behind a security guard. All it took him was a second to end his life and steal his blood energy. There were a total of ten security guards in the outer area, patrolling the garden and perimeter, but to Damon, they were little more than fuel stops.

Each time he reappeared behind a guard, his movements were clean, clinical, and silent. One hand clamped over a mouth. The other pierced a vital artery. One by one, they dropped, their blood siphoned out completely. He left no trail.

When the tenth guard fell, Damon crouched by the garden wall, surveying the mansion’s interior through the grand arched windows. The lights were on. Chatter echoed faintly, men laughing, probably drinking, likely guards or Hector’s personal crew.

Damon listened in closely. His eyes widened in shock. Hector was standing with his men and watching someone getting slapped around. Damon’s fists clenched when he caught a glimpse of who it was.

"Bitch, I am telling you to message your daughter and bring her here and you are continuing to disobey me? Do you think that I can’t reach her if you don’t lure her here? I need to teach you a lesson first!"

Hector laughed wildly and kicked the poor woman lying on the ground. "Did you really think I was going to marry you? I would have ditched you three hours ago if I hadn’t seen your daughter. God knows how such a beauty was born to your crappy shit face." He kicked her again.

Damon was about to make a move when he suddenly heard a whimper. "Please. Please. Do whatever you want with me. Just leave my kids alone. I am sorry. Just leave us. We will never come in front of you again."
