SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God-Chapter 109: You talk too much
Chapter 109: You talk too much
Damon let out a sigh of relief after hearing the woman’s words. Both in his last life and this life, Mark had told him again and again, repeatedly, that he had given up on his mother and wanted nothing to do with her.
Kate was the same. Both of them had said the same thing, and yet there was always pain that came along with those statements. Even if it was the worst woman in the whole world, when it came to a mother, it was impossible for the heart to fully shut that door.
No matter how much betrayal, how much absence, how many wounds had piled up, there was a quiet ache that lingered behind every word, a child’s instinctive hope that maybe, just maybe, this time would be different.
But now, hearing her plead like that, Damon understood the truth. Their mom hadn’t given up on them completely. She was naive and stupid and probably gullible enough to believe men like Hector, but at the end of the day, at least she was suffering in silence rather than trapping her own daughter to get out of this hell.
...and that changed everything.
Damon exhaled slowly, eyes locked on the sight of her trembling form on the floor. She was bruised, humiliated, and completely powerless, but still begging for her children’s safety instead of her own. Maybe it wasn’t redemption. Maybe it wasn’t even love in the way Kate and Mark needed it. But it was something. A line she hadn’t crossed.
That was enough for Damon.
Damon had never planned to interfere with this woman or save her from anything. But right now, he made a decision for the sake of his friends. If he left her here like this, Mark or Kate would probably not hold it against him, but it would always leave a deep scar in their relationship and also in their own heart.
He did not want that for them. Maybe there was a second chance waiting for everyone.
He immediately disappeared and appeared again, this time right behind Hector.
"Shut up, you slut. Shut your whining cock hole and call your cock sucking daughter. I am getting impatient. How about this? After I have sex with your daughter a couple of times, I will send you both home. I will give you plenty of money and drugs. You don’t have to worry about anything ever again. I can take care of-"
Hector did not complete the sentence as he suddenly felt something warm dripping. His eyes, wide with a mixture of terror and confusion, darted down.
Blood.
His lips parted in confusion, the smug sneer frozen halfway through an unspoken word. He turned his head ever so slightly and finally noticed the hand. Damon’s hand. It was thrust straight through his side like a spear.
"You talk too much," Damon whispered coldly into his ear.
Hector tried to say something, but all that came out was a gurgled breath. Damon yanked his arm back without ceremony, sending the man stumbling forward into a table, knocking over bottles of liquor.
Shattered glass scattered across the floor as his goons jumped up, drawing weapons with yells that never reached full volume. Because Damon moved like a storm.
One blink, and he was already gone. Another, and one of the men, collapsed with a bloodless gasp, neck slashed open. A third turned to run and slammed into a wall, except it wasn’t the wall. It was Damon, emerging from the shadows like death itself.
In less than twenty seconds, the entire room was drenched in silence and fear.
Only Hector remained conscious, wheezing on the floor, trying to crawl away. Damon crouched beside him, crimson eyes glowing like twin embers in the dim light.
Damon said softly. "You thought you could touch what I protect." He leaned closer. "You should’ve run when you had the chance." Not leaving a single person alive, Damon sucked everyone dry.
He did not have to worry about Mark’s mother seeing anything, as she was already completely out of it and near unconscious. Damon silently carried her outside. He then collected all the corpses in a single spot and summoned his shadow daggers.
In the next few minutes, the pile of corpses became an unrecognizable meat mountain, just devoid of blood. It was an extremely gory scene. Hoping that it would all lose like some sort of gang fight and not a vampire feast, he quietly left the place with the mother.
He covered both their faces and also wrapped her up in a cloth bundle, making it look as if he was carrying some material things and not a human being.
In the end, he knew none of these measures would probably be enough and that this whole incident was going to cause a huge, crazy mess, but still linking it all back to them would be very difficult.
Either way, Damon knew he had to take some measures now. He moved steadily and soon reached the outside of the gated community.
Wexley Heights stood still, and soon to be swarming with sirens. He had left the scene purposefully messy but chaotic enough that no one would be able to piece together the truth. The bodies looked like they’d torn into each other. Blades had been shoved into the hands of the dead. One of them even had a gun still clenched in a rigor-stiff fist. No cameras. No witnesses. Just horror.
As he rounded the edge of a sleeping street, Damon finally stopped behind an abandoned warehouse. Here, at least, he could breathe. He laid the unconscious woman down gently and checked her pulse. Still alive, still shallow. Her breathing was erratic, but she would survive. Barely.
He once again continued his run. It was convenient that he could take her with him through the shadow step skill, but there was a limit to how much he could move like this. He was drawing on his blood energy a little every time he activated the skill. Lack of mana in the outside world was a pain to deal with.
Also, Damon did not plan to take her home. He had another destination in his mind. He took out his phone and called Mark, filling him in on everything.
