SSS Awakening: Rebirth of the Strongest Vampire God-Chapter 38: Surrounded?
Chapter 38: Surrounded?
Damon chatted with Mark for a bit, mainly about Earth Online. The guy simply couldn’t believe that a video game would be so lucrative. Damon could only inwardly smile at the thought of the truth. Money was not even the best thing the game gave.
Mark did not feel comfortable leaving Kate alone for too long, so the two of them ended their conversation pretty quickly. Damon waved him goodbye, saying he would visit tomorrow during the daytime visiting hours. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Mark nodded, clearly grateful but too exhausted to put it into words. He gave Damon a brief, tired smile before heading back down the corridor. Damon watched him disappear past the restricted ward doors, then turned on his heel and stepped outside into the night.
The chill hit him immediately, but it was bracing in a good way—like cold steel sharpening his thoughts. He took a slow breath, the hospital’s fluorescent light fading behind him as he blended back into the dark of the city.
Money wasn’t the best thing Earth Online had given him—power wasn’t either. What it gave him was control. In a world where reality constantly pulled the rug out from under people like Mark and Kate, Damon finally had a say in what happened next. And he wasn’t planning on wasting that.
He tugged his hoodie tighter around him, stuffed his hands into his pockets, and walked toward the nearest bus stop. It was time to get back to the game. The hospital visit was a bust, but he at least made sure that if he drank enough blood, he could wake up from the game normally and not be bloodthirsty.
Now the question was how long would he remain satiated?
For that, he did not have to spend his time outside of the game. These first few days were very critical, and he did not want to waste any of them. He sat on the bus silently, thinking about many things.
Obviously, the idea of using his blood to heal Kate’s illness crossed his mind, but he did not want to rush into any hasty decisions. Maybe Kate did not need that. Maybe she just had a complex procedure for which they needed money, and that was all there was to it.
Damon tried to keep positive thoughts, but when he thought about how his friend had become in his last life, his gut feeling told him that her small illness wasn’t all that small.
Eitherways he was getting ahead of himself. Even if he wanted to help, he couldn’t at the moment. He needed to be a blood lord to start creating followers and turning others into vampires.
And he was only a blood initiate at the moment.
Damon thought about many things silently as the bus rumbled beneath him, and his stop finally arrived. His blood supply problem was still a big question mark.
As he walked out of the bus stop, he caught sight of a drunkard creeping out two women, making them run as fast as they could from the bus stop.
The women, visibly spooked, darted across the street, casting a fearful glance back at the slurring man who stumbled after them for a few paces before collapsing on a bench, muttering to himself.
Maybe finding blood wouldn’t be that difficult after all. This kind of scene wasn’t uncommon. The problem was that Damon had to stumble into someone like this in the bright of the day and not in the middle of the night, as that was when he would log out of the game.
"6 am is still pretty early. Maybe I can find drunkards around?" He pondered the feasibility of his not-so-carefully crafted plan. However, the moment he took a step forward, he froze. Something odd was going on.
Damon was not sure, but ahead of him, there were many men. He could tell they were men because of the distinct scent that came from the male gender as opposed to the fragrance of the female gender.
What were they all doing in this part of the city in the dead of the night?
And if he was not wrong, they had all gathered near his apartment complex?
Correction. They were gathered in his apartment complex.
Damon was sure of it. More so as he got closer and closer to the building.
The hair on the back of his neck stood on end the closer he walked. His steps slowed instinctively, each one quieter than the last as he approached the edge of the alley that opened into his apartment’s back entrance.
Figures—at least eight of them—stationed strategically around the perimeter. Two leaned against the wall, appearing casual but alert. One crouched by the dumpster, half-hidden, scanning the upper windows. And three were on the roof.
The roof.
Who the hell monitored from a rooftop unless they expected someone with power, or mobility?
Damon stopped just outside the glow of the final streetlight and remained in the shadow. Something was seriously off. This wasn’t some neighborhood gang loitering or a bunch of bored troublemakers. This was a coordinated perimeter—tight and quiet.
And then it got worse.
He sensed more men standing inside the complex, and more importantly, these guys were standing right outside his apartment!
"Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Was I careless in some way?" Damon’s pulse raced. That woman! She must have remembered everything and these people were probably from sort of secret services assembled here to catch him and take him away.
His thoughts spiralled as he started strategizing for the worst case scenario. Did he really have what it takes to face these many men right here and right now?
Probably not.
Fuck it. So what if he did not? He was not going to go down without a fight. He was not going to let these people take him to some lab and treat him like a freak experiment.
"Wait, they haven’t noticed me at all?" Damon paused, once again feeling that something was off. He then saw something completely unexpected.
