Standing Next To You-Chapter 396: Fei Chuan’s new dream

The atmosphere while returning to the house was a bit awkward. With reddened cheeks, they walked together, still not letting go of each other’s hands.

Bei Sangyun escorted Fei Chuan to his bedroom door. She still didn’t want to separate. She looked at their intertwined hands with longing.

However, Fei Chuan was still recovering from the fever and needed plenty of rest. She couldn’t disrupt his recovery.

"You’ll be staying in your room all day. Won’t you get bored? Do you want me to keep you company? I can work while you rest," she suggested with hopeful eyes.

Fei Chuan softly tapped her nose. "It’s fine. I’ll prepare the review materials so we can start studying tomorrow."

"Don’t overwork yourself. Make sure you get plenty of rest. I can hire a tutor instead."

"But I want to help you. I don’t have much to do since I’m recuperating. Besides, I’m the best tutor out there."

Bei Sangyun pouted, a bit disappointed that she wouldn’t be able to stay with Fei Chuan all the time. Butler Xin was handling the Fei family’s tasks in her place, so she needed to manage the company’s affairs for a while.

They reminded each other of many simple things. They lingered in front of the door for a long time.

Maid Yan had been going upstairs and downstairs for the third time and was stunned to see the couple still exchanging goodbyes. Their conversation was going in circles, but the two didn’t seem to mind.

After circling around, Bei Sangyun finally, reluctantly, let go of Fei Chuan’s hand. "Go. I’ll see you before you leave."

"No. You should go first."

Maid Yan sighed inwardly. What a pair of lovers. If anyone saw them, they would think they weren’t living under the same roof.

Bei Sangyun finally relented. She went next door and looked at Fei Chuan with a loving gaze. "How about we enter the rooms together?"

Fei Chuan nodded. Both of them held their respective doorknobs, but neither of them turned it.

"You should enter now."

"No, you should enter first."

Watching them for a long time made Maid Yan frustrated. She approached the pair of lovers and opened the doors for them.

"Let me help. Dinner will arrive by the time you two are finished."

Then she pushed Bei Sangyun into her room and Fei Chuan into his. The two were stunned but didn’t stop her. Since they couldn’t separate on their own, having a third party intervene was the only way.

"Now, both of you should close the doors at the count of three. One. Two. Three!"

Finally, the hallway returned to silence.

"Geez. If you miss each other so much, you can just go to each other’s rooms," Maid Yan muttered while shaking her head. Their rooms were even next to each other. What’s all the drama?

Inside her room, Bei Sangyun leaned against the door and sighed after hearing Maid Yan’s advice.

She indeed missed Fei Chuan, even though not a minute had passed since they separated.

Why was it harder now that they were living under the same roof? When they were dating before, they weren’t inseparable like this.

In another room, Fei Chuan stared blankly into the air before chuckling out loud.

What was he doing? He wanted to be cool in front of Bei Sangyun, but he acted like a love-stricken teenager instead.

Yet, when he thought of Bei Sangyun’s widened eyes as he kissed her, her reluctance to let go, and her hopeful gaze when she suggested staying together, Fei Chuan couldn’t help but feel giddy all over.

Ah...she was so adorable.

Fei Chuan laughed again, his dimple showing.

Ring.

An abrupt call snapped him out of his reverie.

It was Chairman Yu*.

Fei Chuan composed himself before answering the call.

"Mr. Fei, I have completed what you asked for," Chairman Yu said, getting straight to the point.

Fei Chuan opened his laptop and reviewed Chairman Yu’s report. "Thank you. I owe you one."

"No need to trouble yourself. I consider you family. This small favor is a token of my appreciation. My business partners feel the same way."

"Still, I am grateful. I’ll make sure our project is a success. If you or the others need help in the future, don’t hesitate to call me. I’ll make sure I’m worth your investment."

"Fine, you truly are stubborn. But..." Chairman Yu paused, cautiously asking, "Will you be okay? It’s... your family, after all."

Fei Chuan scrolled through his laptop and saw several articles and tabloids regarding the Fei family. Bei Sangyun had worked efficiently. With only a bit of effort from him, they had managed to overwhelm the Fei family with rumors that were hard to dispel.

"Family can be built without blood. Didn’t you already consider me one?"

Chairman Yu fell silent.

"And sometimes your own family can be your worst enemy," he added.

He closed the tabs and reviewed some of the movements of the Fei and Lin families. "You don’t have to worry about me, Chairman Yu. I anticipated this long ago and prepared myself for it."

It wasn’t a lie to say that Fei Chuan felt nothing. His memory was sharp, and he still remembered the six years he spent in the Fei mansion before he was cast into the countryside to wait for death.

At that time, he was considered the precious heir, and everyone treated him well, especially his grandfather. Things only changed when he left the Fei mansion. When he returned, his status had changed, and it defined how others treated him.

He had once contemplated avenging himself and desired the destruction of this family while suffering under Fei Min’s abuse. The people who were supposed to be close to him and should protect him- his father and his grandfather were indifferent to his situation, so he considered them dead long ago.

As time passed, his heart distanced away from the Fei family, turning ice cold.

"I have spoken out of line, pardon me," Chairman Yu replied. Then he changed the topic to the project they were working on. They talked for a while before ending the call.

Silence returned to the room.

Fei Chuan opened his laptop and stared at the screen as his thoughts wandered.

Before his relationship with Bei Sangyun, his initial plan after graduating high school was to go abroad, work silently, and amass influence.

He planned to live quietly and endure the Fei family until he had enough power to stand on his own. Once he had enough power to face the entire family, he would return to the country and make a name for himself.

He would snatch the heir position and kick out those who needed to be removed. Then, he would rebuild the Fei family from its roots. He would reign supreme, and no one would dare to oppose him on his turf.
