Chapter 134: A Day Off

Today was supposed to be Commander Agiel’s day off.

Various Enforcers could be seen herding civilians out of the way of the fire and away from the scene of the battle, and all around the commander were unconscious men and women with serious injuries. The enforcers kept a reasonable distance from Commander Agiel out of both fear and respect, and whispers could be heard from both the Enforcers and civilians nearby.

"Isn’t that Commander Agiel? I heard people call her the Angel of Death online. She has the highest kill count in the Enforcers."

"I thought Enforcers weren’t allowed to kill their victims."

"No, most of them just don’t do it. The Enforcers’ law allows an Enforcer to kill a rogue superhuman if they can’t capture them alive."

"Wow, no wonder the superhumans are terrified of them!"

"Did you see how she broke that building? She used that woman’s skull like a battering ram! Their Gifts didn’t even do any damage to Agiel!"

"It’s a shame though, she’s so beautiful, but I pity any man that tries getting close to her. She’s definitely not human."

There were reporters and media personnel around, taking pictures and giving messages in front of the cameras, but they were also wise enough to provide a wide space to Agiel since some of them had seen her battle. They weren’t willing to become collateral just for a news story.

Ratatatatata!

Keith’s helicopter finally arrived on the scene and landed a few meters away from the commander. Keith climbed down calmly and couldn’t help but look around at all the damage done with an exasperated look on his face. Commander Agiel was his direct superior, so there was nothing he could say to admonish her for what she had done here, but it was obvious they were going to be getting a serious query for what she had just done. The paperwork alone would be enough to drown them!

Agiel turned to look at Keith for a second when he came close enough, and her soft voice carried over the distance to reach him.

"You’ve grown stronger, Keith. But you’re still weak. Work harder."

Keith frowned at that and wisely chose not to address it. He glanced towards the civilians and fellow Enforcers standing far from the commander before looking down at the unconscious superhumans around the commander’s feet and had to ask:

"What happened?"

Agiel just shrugged as she began putting her gloves back on. Commander Agiel had been tracking this group of criminals for the past few weeks, and she finally managed to pin down their hideout in this bar. Once she was certain they were all meeting here regularly, she waited for the right moment when they were all present to attack.

"They put up a small fight, but it was honestly pathetic to watch. They’re nothing but sheep."

Agiel’s voice was so condescending that you’d think she was talking about real sheep rather than people. It was almost like she didn’t even regard the criminals as the same species as her!

Keith turned to take a closer look at the faces of the unconscious bodies and frowned as he began to recognize some of them. They were criminals the Enforcers had been tracking for the better part of a year now. Most of them were A rank, and there was one S rank who was the leader of the group.

’She handled this many superhumans in less than five minutes? How did she deal with a fellow S rank in that short time?’

Commander Agiel’s ability was something no one could fully understand in the Superhuman Enforcers. It wasn’t a secret, and most of the Enforcers who had seen her fight had a preliminary understanding of what she could do, but no one could fully decipher the extent of her powers. If Keith were asked to put it into simple terms, he would say Commander Agiel had the ability to control Waves.

It was a simple description, but as Keith looked around at the destruction that ability had caused, he knew there was nothing simple about how she used her powers!

Keith sighed, and Agiel frowned when she saw his shoulders sag slightly. Keith immediately stood at attention once again and spoke as respectfully as possible.

"Ma’am, if I remember correctly, then wasn’t today meant to be your day off?"

Agiel hummed and raised a curious brow before she said;

"And?"

Keith really couldn’t say anything more. A day off was supposed to be the one day you didn’t do any work. It was meant to be when you would go spend time with your family or see a movie, but it turned out Agiel didn’t know the meaning of a day off. Concepts like rest and relaxation just didn’t matter to her.

At twenty-three years old, Agiel was one of the youngest superhumans to have earned the title of commander in the Enforcers. She was an S rank that everyone believed could probably stand up to SS ranks, even if for only a short time, and Keith had never seen anyone with as much tenacity as her in the force. If you told Agiel to get something done, she would get it done, no matter the consequences.

Keith did not appreciate the amount of damage she did to the properties around her when she fought, but he couldn’t deny that her method produced results.

From what Keith had heard from other officers, Agiel was the daughter of a well-known martial artist who died during the first Gate Break ten years ago. Her family had a dojo in New York that was run by her brother, but there was some sort of feud between them that prevented either of them from staying in the same room for longer than a minute.

Agiel turned away after putting on her gloves and spoke to Keith.

"Make sure the criminals are processed properly and send the paperwork for the damage to my office on Monday. Oh, right, did you get a call from a Gina Fey yet?"

Agiel turned around when she asked the last part, and Keith frowned before shaking his head. He definitely hadn’t heard anything from Gina Fey. But if he remembered correctly, that was Jason Marc’s girlfriend, wasn’t she?

"Are you trying to recruit Jason Marc into the force? The higher-ups are already preparing a suitable offer for him once he’s done with his assessment. They told the rest of us to keep our distance until then."

Agiel’s lip curled into a small smile, and Keith still couldn’t believe how something so beautiful could look so dangerous! Keith was certain that if not for the fact that Agiel would rather die than pose for a picture, she could have been one of the most successful models in the world!

Agiel’s soft voice reached Keith even as she turned to continue walking.

"I’m not interested in the politics the higher-ups are playing. The world is filled with so many sheep, and I want to find out whether or not he is one of them."
