Tang San's Twin Sister-Chapter 106
Oscar looked at Tang San and blinked.
"I feel honored, but right now, it's still not necessary. The nine of us should start running at the slowest speed, together and as safely as possible, with as much strength as possible in the beginning. Once one can't continue, we will distribute the weight as it fits best."
Ning Rongrong smiled at Oscar's words.
"Little Ao, I didn't notice you could be this astute."
Oscar shrugged his shoulders.
"I was called the bright little prince as a child. This is nothing."
Dai Mubai, the oldest and strongest among them, sighed and started running ahead, setting an example for the others to follow, while saying,"Stop talking and get going. We do what Oscar said. It is the best way."
They all resumed their long-distance running. As regular support spirit masters, Ning Rongrong and Oscar fell behind unused to the strain, so the others slowed down and ran according to their speed.
So, the first lap was finished slowly. When running, everyone felt the heavy weight on their backs. Usually, a run like this, even without spirit power, wasn't much of a challenge for them, especially not for people like Ning Feng and the Tang twins, who ran with regular weights at a similar distance daily.
But this was far heavier than what they were used to, and the distance was far beyond their regular run. Ning Rongrong, the weakest among them, slowed down even more. The grandmaster was waiting for them when they arrived at the academy gates, handing them water.
"Drink and then keep going," he told them coolly.
The water was warm and had a slight salty tang. Under the grandmaster's watchful eye, each drank their cup before continuing their punishment run.
As the sun slowly rose further and further to the zenith, so did the temperature slowly rise.
In the second and third round trips it grew almost unbearable. Every time they were at the academy, they got some water and then continued running.
In the fifth round, they were all starting to feel it. Oscar and Ning Rongrong felt like their legs were made of lead. The weight of the baskets on their backs felt like mountains of lead, and their surroundings became blurry.
"Little Ao, give me your stones," Tang San said to Oscar, while Dai Mubai took over Ning Rongrong's stones simultaneously.
This time, the two of them didn't object. Tang Yin gently rose Tang San's attention and then put a handful of the stones from Oscar into her basket, with Ning Feng doing the same with Dai Mubai's load, which he had taken from Ning Rongrong.
With each basket now heavier, they continued to run. Ning Rongrong and Oscar ran easier now, feeling relieved, while the others struggled.
They continued on the fifth, sixth, and seventh laps. Tang Yin felt her lungs burn at this point, buckets of sweat running down her temples, and her muscles hurting. Each step was torture as the sight in front of her started to burr our. They drank the saltwater thirstily before they continued to run further.
"Dying. I am dying," Ma Hongjun said, staggering, almost falling to the ground. He stopped his hands on his knees, gasping for breath.
Everyone stopped and looked at each other. Their clothes were sweat-soaked and sticking to their bodies.
The Tang twins, Dai Mubai and Ning Feng, were among the most exhausted. They shouldn't have been as tired, as they were all either well-trained and accustomed to weight running or physically stronger.
Still the heat and the distance had taken a vicious toll on them.
The only one who appeared almost completely fine and unbothered, still running at the same speed as before, was Xiao Wu.
"We need to slow down. I'm dying; if I keep running, I may really die."
Dai Mubai scowled.
"Slow down? Didn't you notice the saltwater has had the same temperature every time we arrived? The grandmaster probably had already considered our physical strengths before this. If we run too slow, we might face even worse punishment. We have to keep going. Fatty, just give me your weights."
Ma Hongjun stared at Dai Mubai, shocked.
"Are you sure?"
Dai Mubai growled deeply.
"That hardly matters; I will manage."
Dai Mubai added Ma Hongjun's weights onto his back, and Tang San went to Zhu Zhuqing, offering to take the weight from her. She might be suffering silently, but it was more than obvious she was just as done as Ma Hongjun.
Zhu Zhuqing shook her head, declining Tang San's offer. "I can keep going. You have to run two laps more than the rest of us. If you waste too much energy now, how can you continue later on?"
Tang San looked at her blankly. It seemed she wasn't as cold a person as he had always thought she was.
The journey started again, but they started running even slower this time. Even though Dai Mubai did not say anything, it was clear his steps had become heavier. They completed the next round.
Without weights, Oscar and Ning Rongrong slowly found it easier to run. Ma Hongjun also recovered slightly, and Xiao Wu could still continue.
At the same time, Ning Feng, Zhu Zhuqing, and Tang Yin slowly started to falter, growing slower with each of their steps.
Only Tang San, who was also past his limits, kept going continuously.
Seeing the city with the ninth lap half finished, Dai Mubai stumbled, his entire body falling forward.
Normally, he would have just straightened himself and balanced the stumble out, but this time, he lacked the strength. Tang San and Tang Yin lunged forward, seeing him fall, and caught each other's shoulders.
Dai Mubai barely moved, leaning heavily on Tang San's shoulder. His lungs were pumping air, and his eyes were unfocused. It was clear he had crossed his limit a while ago.
"Boss Dai," everyone said and walked up to him.
Tang San didn't say anything and then took the weights from Dai Mubai's basket and added them to his own.
"Little San. No need. I can still keep going," Dai Mubai said, barely standing up. His eyes were filled with determination. He took the weight from Tang San and put it back into his own.
"Boss, give me back my weights," Ma Hongjun suddenly said. "I can handle the rest."
Ning Rongrong also stepped forward. "Give me also back mine. I have recovered a lot and can carry my weight," she said, and Oscar joined her. They redistributed the weights to the original compositions.
They continued shortly after. Every step was a challenge, but now, with much less weight, Dai Mubai could keep going.
They finished the ninth lap somehow.
