Tang San's Twin Sister-Chapter 107
They were walking now and no longer running. Each of them was exhausted, preserving only somehow.
"We have one left to go," Dai Mubai said, turning to continue running. Ning Feng made her way to Tang San.
"G-Give me a-a bit o-of the weight," she said. "I c-can keep g-going."
Tang San looked straight into Ning Feng's eyes, the burning determination inside them burning bright as back inside the spirit forest when they had been hunting for their first spirit beast in Nuoding.
They persisted on their laps, unable to run any longer. Their heads hanging low, their breaths harsh.
Sometimes, all that separated someone mediocre from someone talented was pure will and the will to keep going where others might have also given up.
Oscar almost fainted on the way, and after a while, his rocks wandered back into Tang San's basket. Walking further, eventually, Zhu Zhuqing's weights wandered into Xiao Wu's basket. The proud woman almost collapsed from the strain.
Eventually, Ning Rongrong fainted on the way. Her weights wandered into Tang Yin's basket, and Tang San ended up with Xiao Wu's weights as Xiao Wu carried her.
Then, Oscar finally gave in. His weights wandered to Ning Feng, and he ended up on Ma Hongjun's back. Ma Hongjun's weights were distributed between Tang Yin and Ning Feng.
They continued until even Zhu Zhuqing silently collapsed as well. Tang Yin, breathing harshly, took the weights from Dai Mubai as Zhu Zhuqing ended up on Dai Mubai's back. The weight made her legs shake, and they almost gave up beneath her.
She hissed and forced her feet to move on.
Dai Mubai carried Zhu Zhuqing.
Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong.
Ma Hongjun, Oscar.
The weights were all on the backs of Ning Feng, Tang San, and Tang Yin.
Eventually, Ning Rongrong woke up and told Xiao Wu to let her down. Xiao Wu, sweat-soaked, almost stumbled to the ground as she let Rong Rong shift down and lend her an arm as she went on. Oscar also regained consciousness and, struggling, walked alongside Ma Hongjun, who took the weights over from a completely exhausted and past her limit. Ning Feng took the other side of Oscar to help him keep going.
Despite his weight, Ma Hongjun was still a combat spirit master, and under these circumstances, his stamina surpassed even Ning Feng's, who trained hard every day to keep going where no other support spirit master her age might have been able to.
Zhu Zhuqing didn't stir at all, but walking to the faltering Dai Mubai, Tang Yin offered him a shoulder to lean on. He declined with a shake of his head, and she sent him a shaky smile.
Tang San eventually took half of Tang Yin's weight as she too started to falter and stumble several times, unable to make out the path due to the blurry sight caused by exhaustion.
Had one asked her in her former life if she could keep going in this state, she would have answered no. She would have told them they were crazy while laughing it off over coffee. Yet here she was, and she kept going.
Shoulder to shoulder, they continued aiding each other. Eventually, they spotted the Grandmaster's cold face. Their gazes trained on the goal; they kept going, ignoring all the pain. Their bodies felt like a thousand tons each.
They eventually reached the goal with Ning Rongrong, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun fainting. Dai Mubai collapsed next to Zhu Zhuqing, remembering barely to catch her fall as he was panting and completely unable to move. Xiao Wu and Ning Feng were on their knees, leaning against each other to keep their bodies upright. Tang Yin let the basket drop and faltered before falling into her brother, who was unloading his basket to the original weight.
He had to keep still going. She gritted her teeth, took her own basket, and unloaded the extra weight, shouldering her basket.
"One lap you, one me," she said. "That counts as twelve."
Xiao Wu staggered upwards while Ning Feng sank forward without her aid and stumbled to Tang San. "I'll accompany you, brother, Yin," she said, taking their hands. Behind them, Dai Mubai also staggered upwards and towards them until he was beside Tang San.
A smile spread on their pale faces. They grasped each other's hands and patted their shoulders lightly. Dai Mubai turned towards the two young girls, one even carrying their basket, and then took a stone out of Tang Yin's. "I take a bit," he said and put it into his basket when suddenly he saw how Xiao Wu also fainted. Tang San caught her barely as she fell, almost to the ground, as Tang Yin steadied him.
The three of them cast a look at each other before taking a few steps further and finally collapsed together to the ground, fainting one after another.
The Grandmaster looked at them and collapsed.
"Never abandoning, never giving up. Good."
Flender, who brought Zhao Wuji and a few other teachers, appeared, looking at the collapsed students.
"Grandmaster, you are good too, ruthless for certain."
The Grandmaster didn't mind the unhappiness in Flender's words.
"Bring them over there. And watch that Tang Yin's glove stays on... she doesn't like having that arm touched by anyone but her brother," he said, looking at Tang San and Tang Yin, whose hands were tightly intertwined, where Tang San had dragged both his sisters just another step further.
