Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 206: Who I am uncle to...
Chapter 206: Who I am uncle to...
Selene POV
Before I could open my mouth to utter a word, the Grand Lycan beat me to it.
"Noah!" he exclaimed, his eyes filled with gratitude, the most genuine I’ve ever seen. He left his seat and rushed to Noah, embracing him. "How is it possible?" he asked, turning left and right. You were barely alive the last time I saw you,".
"I’m fine now, Father," Noah said and shrugged out of his father’s arms, his eyes on me. He started walking towards me, our gaze fixed on each other. I didn’t know if I should be grateful that he was alive and well, or relieved that half of my troubles would go away.
When he reached me, he cupped my face and took my lips. Our tongues, lips and mouth synced for a while, until he pulled apart, brushing the wisps of hair from my eyes as he gazed at me tenderly.
"I’m sorry," he murmured cleaning my eyes. I didn’t even notice I was crying "I should have been here... I cannot imagine all the things they did to you. Everything you had to put up with... And the girls..." he paused as his eyes travelled the hall "Where are they?"
"I’m pregnant!" I said instead, feeling a burst of joy as I gazed at him "You’re going to be a father," I said again, reaching for his hand to place on my tummy.
His eyes bulged with surprise and then, unable to stop himself, he reached for me and twirled me around, laughing as he did. "Oh, my world! Selene...This is the best news I’ve heard. This is wonderful. How long have you known?"
"For a few days now," I replied with a smile "But I wanted it to be a surprise," I said as my gaze strayed to Kragen. Wondering what he was doing here.
"Ah!" Noah turned immediately when he noticed I was looking at Kragen "Thank you, dear, it’s because of him that I was able to recover quickly. He said you had to sneak him into the hospital because my family didn’t allow you to see me. Said he’s a doctor but doesn’t practice in the region,".
I looked at Kragen who nodded silently. Fighting the urge to roll my eyes, I turned to Noah and nodded. "Yes, I got him through a platform and I never knew he’d show up. Thank you so much, doc. For bringing my husband back to us,".
"Anything, ma’am," Kragen nodded giving me a curt bow.
"Now!" Noah said, reaching for my hands and bringing me to stand next to him "Two mornings ago, I received a call from my dearest sister Nora... she told me she had the twins... that’s Maeve and Vina who I am Uncle to and that she was so angry and doesn’t know what she’ll do with the girls if I didn’t come here as soon as possible. At first, I thought she was bluffing but she sent me a video of the girls being punished... it was almost 4 am and I didn’t want to wake my wife who was fast asleep beside me,".
He paused and held me tighter. "Waking Selene at that moment didn’t seem like a bad idea to me, so I rushed out to meet my sister and what did I get? The next thing I woke in the hospital with most of my memories wiped out. I don’t know what to make of this and sincerely, I don’t care but I know the best thing for me to do right now is to have my sister arrested,".
"There’s a video," I said, bringing out my phone to show him the video. He watched dumbfounded and after that, he turned to the pack elders and officials who were present in the video, eyes brimming with rage.
"My dad was right for one thing... you all are long overdue to leave this pack. I was going to forgive you all and forget. Honestly, I was going to do that but with what I’ve seen today, I don’t think any of you deserves to be members of this pack, talk more of serving the good people of this pack,".
"You’re too weak to be a Lycan King," Nora spoke up for the first time "And you’ll ruin the pack. You can make my words; you’ll ruin us all and it’ll be your fault. You’re too weak, most times, I feel like you think the world should revolve around you. You do what you like, you act based on emotions and...".
"That is exactly what it means to fucking lead, Nora," Noah interrupted her, his eyes brimming with mockery "And you know it has been working perfectly all these years. The people love and appreciate me which is something I can’t say about you. Being a lead means being emotionally available for your people and that is what I am trying to do but you think you can downplay my effort,".
"That’s too much effort, don’t you think?" Nora chuckled "Especially as a human... you’re not a Lycan, Noah... you’re half human, half Lycan and your human makeup supersedes that of your wolf. You shouldn’t have any business leading a pack but of course, our father is another emotional creature like you and he’s doing this for your mother. Isn’t it, father?"
"Your words would have broken my heart ages ago," Noah smiled "But you’re sad, Nora. Broken, unloved by your husband, desperately in need of our father’s approval and at the same time trying to win over your son who doesn’t give a damn about you,".
"That’s not true... my husband loves me and Xavier loves me more," Nora said vehemently. "You’re just jealous that I have control over my emotions than you’d ever imagine,".
"Yeah, what a pretty way to call loneliness," Noah scoffed "Anyways, enough talk already... I am burned out. Guards... take them away, I need to rest and my queen has been on her feet a lot more than is required,".
Immediately, all the guards filed out of the room and headed towards Nora but she put her hands up, stopping them. "You can’t arrest me Noah... I have immunity. I am the daughter of Grand Lycan Leonard Carrell and also hold a political office... you cannot throw me into jail,".
"I agree," Noah nodded "I am not having you arrested because you committed treason which is like another topic for another day, I am having you arrested because you put my wife – the woman who is carrying a royal child in the dungeon. That’s a punishable offence with instant death. You should be hanging from the gallows now, Nora but because I want all your offences to be laid out before your final judgement, I’m going to keep you for much longer. As for the pack elders and officials who plotted Treason with you, you all are fired starting from this moment, making you ordinary pack members. Take them away,".
There was a bit of a scuffle here and there but eventually, they took them all out of the room. The Grand Lycan came towards us, his gaze on Kragen. "Your face does not look familiar, from which family and Pack are you from?" he asked.
"That I’m afraid is a secret," Kragen said with a smile "When I started going around healing people and doing it for free because it’s a gift embedded in me by the moon goddess and it doesn’t make any sense to reveal myself because I don’t want anyone to know. It’s enough that I can help people in the little ways that I can,".
"Oh!" The Grand Lycan nodded "I’m impressed honestly and If there’s a chance you may want to stay longer in the pack and oh... check my grandson... he has a bit of some ...". Immediately, the door of the courtroom burst open and Xavier stood at the entrance of the door, panting hard.
"Just what we need!" I murmured under my breath. He ignored everyone present there and ran straight to me, seizing my hand.
"Are you alright, Selene? I came as soon as I could. What is this that I heard about you being asked to leave the pack? On what grounds?"
"Didn’t you promise that you’d never be back?" Noah suddenly came to stand in between us "Leave now before I do something we might both live to regret,".
"C’mon Noah, be kind to your nephew," The Grand Lycan chuckled nervously giving Kragen an apologetic smile "This is the person I wanted you to check out, my grandson,".
On cue, Xavier and Kragen turned to each other as both men sized the other up before Xavier turned away.
"I am acquainted with him, Your Majesty," Kragen said finally giving the Grand Lycan a placating smile. "Now if that’s all, Luna Selene, may I see you out for a bit?"
The men turned to him immediately, giving him death stares, especially Xavier.
"Now that she is pregnant, she’d need more than the normal things. For the baby to grow healthy and sound, I may have a few important and never-heard recommendations to the mother alone and also for the Lycan King... she needs to know who to take care of him starting now..." they tried to protest but he stopped them before they could speak.
"Women have better memories than men in things like this and I really must speak to her alone...".
For some reason, the men nodded in unison and watched as Kragen stretched his hand towards me. Together, we left the courtroom and headed to my office. As soon as we settled, I turned, with complain words at the tips of my tongue. But before I could get them out, Kragen dragged me into his arms, pressing me to his large frame.
"I’m so glad you’re fine," he murmured.
