The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 228: What goes around comes around
Chapter 228: What goes around comes around
"I am not the one who got the short end of the stick here and you know that, Vincent."
A malicious smirk dominated Fil’s face as she let go of Vincent’s tie. Fil slowly faced Marianne and scoffed at her.
"Fil," called Marianne, only to stop when Fil waved dismissively.
"Save your apologies, Anne. If you’re really sorry, then don’t ever show your face to me." Fil shook her head. "I understand if Vincent fooled around with another woman while we were together, but with my best friend? God. How can you smile right in front of my face all this time?"
"Fil —"
"Shut up." Fil hissed. "Be grateful I haven’t done anything to the two of you. However, if you ever bother me and make me remember you exist, you two better say goodbye to your careers. Especially you Anne. I don’t think the public will be happy if they find out that the person who delivers honest news about public affairs is capable of doing this."
"I don’t want to hear a word from the two of you again," she added. "The moment you do, I’ll slap you with a lawsuit and a restraining order. Unless you don’t mind being the monkeys in a circus, then go ahead. I’m not clean, but my dirty laundry isn’t gonna cost me my career, reputation, and my life. I can’t say the same to both of you."
A satisfied huff escaped Fil as she darted her eyes between them. She said what she said, and it wasn’t a bluff. If they bother her again, Fil will go public. She didn’t know how Jackson would react, but she was certain he would understand.
As Fil turned, her eyes landed on Marcus. Elise was standing in front of him before she took a step back. Elise scoffed and turned her back on him, nodding at Fil as if she had got her message. As the two of them took a step away, Fil felt a hand grabbing her wrist.
"Fil, wait!"
This time, Fil not only stopped, but she swiftly twisted her wrist. In the blink of an eye, she turned around while grabbing Vincent’s arm behind him. Before Vincent knew it, his chest landed on the table with a violent thud with his arm twisted on his back and Fil’s other hand pressing on his nape.
"Ugh!" Surprised washed over Vincent and everyone watching, eyes wide at Fil, who pinned the man so effortlessly.
What just happened?
"I can hurt you, Vincent. All those times you came to me, begging me, harassing me. I could’ve dealt with you like this, but I didn’t. Do you know why?" Fil squeezed his nape and pushed his arm upward, earning a loud grunt from him. "Because I feel sorry for you. I don’t care if you can’t keep your hands to yourself, but just make sure those hands aren’t touching me. The moment they did, you better learn how to sign your papers with your feet."
"Ah — ah — Fil, ouch!"
Fil pressed his arm on his back even more before she finally let him go. Taking a step back, she watched Vincent wince as he retrieved his arm. Fortunately, she didn’t slack on her training in the past three months.
Again, she turned her head and purposely gazed in Marcus’s direction. She scoffed at him and shook her head, looking away to leave. Without thinking, Marcus jumped from his spot to the two of them. But instead of stopping Elise, he reached for Fil’s hand without a second hesitation.
"Fil."
For a moment, the crowd was expecting another round with what they had witnessed just now. Yet, they were confused. Just now, the one who slapped him at least three times was Elise and not Fil. But why was he stopping Fil and not the other one, and why did he look so concerned?
Much to their surprise, Fil didn’t pull off what she did to Vincent. Instead, she stopped and looked back at him.
"Hah!" Seeing this, Elise couldn’t help but scoff. "Gosh. I am out of words."
"Let go, Marcus," Fil warned quietly. "I’m done with you, just like how I am done with those two."
Marcus’s grip tightened as he clenched his teeth. This wasn’t the best time to talk to her, but alas, since Fil caught those two, whatever he had to say didn’t matter. Even so, if he let her go, he knew she would never let him get a hold of her again.
"Marcus," she called once again. "Let go."
"No."
"Marcus." This time, Anton jumped in and grabbed Marcus’s arm. "Let go, man. I don’t know why you’re stopping her, but I don’t like the signal it gives to others."
"I don’t care about what everybody thinks." Marcus kept his eyes fixed on her. "I’m not letting her go unless she leaves with me."
"She’s not leaving here with you." Anton shook his head as he tightened his grip on Marcus. "You’re hurting her, Marcus. Let go because if you don’t, I’ll make you."
"Woah, woah, woah!" This time, Michael finally found his chance to enter the scene. "What in the world is going on here? I just had one quick orgasm, and this place is having a different party!"
He darted his eyes between Fil, Marcus, and then Anton. Michael made it so obvious when he shifted his eyes to Marianne and then at Vincent, who was looking at Marcus with uniformed confusion.
"Now, seriously." Michael cleared his throat. "What’s going on here?"
"That’s what I wanted to ask." Vincent stopped massaging his wrist, the anger in his eyes slowly coming to life. "Marcus, what the hell is going on? You better have a goddamn explanation for this."
Marcus didn’t answer, and Fil remained quiet. Instead, they looked at each other sharply as if neither of them cared anything except standing their ground right now.
"What’s going on?" Elise laughed in ridicule, raising her voice for everyone to hear. "It is what you see it is! That trash had been bothering her the moment she became single and when she made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him, he went to manipulate her foolish co-worker into a relationship just so he could get a hold of her."
Elise scorned as she shook her head. "Unfortunately, I am that foolish co-worker. I can’t believe I fell for his lies and nearly cost me a friend. Just a couple of nights ago, he told me how much he loved Fil and earned my sympathy. I had to beg Fil to give him a chance — what a pathetic trash!"
