The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 231: Don’t give it back broken
Chapter 231: Don’t give it back broken
"And Elise slapped him four times. Marcus didn’t even get a word out," Fil chuckled as she recalled their victory tonight. Being held by Jackson like this felt like a reward. "I’m just glad Elise didn’t turn a blind eye to it."
Fil looked up at Jackson, catching sight of the proud smile plastered on his face. Ever since they came home, the two of them had been cuddling in the living area. They hadn’t even changed, as if that didn’t matter to them.
"I’m free, Jack," she expressed quietly with a touch of relief. "They won’t bother me anymore."
Saying those words for the umpteenth time still gave her this sense of exhilaration. Months ago, she realized Marianne had more plans than just being the third party. The more she thought about that, the more she was convinced of Marianne’s wicked plans.
There was no way in hell would she allow that plan to happen. Marianne would never be the victim here.
"Do you think they’ll just let things go?" he asked out of plain curiosity.
"They won’t, but they had to."
Jackson raised his brows and blinked. "You sure?"
"If they did... I’ll slap them with a lawsuit." Fil slowly adjusted her position, facing him squarely. "My soon-to-be husband is a big fish. If a lawsuit isn’t enough to stop them, I believe my big fish will turn into a vicious shark and bite them limb to limb?"
"You’ll let me step in?"
"As much as I hate it."
"You hate my help?"
"No. I hate the fact that you had to deal with those trashes because of me." Fil cupped his face, studying the divine, fine specimen before her. "But if worse comes to worst, I’ll have to ask you for a favor because then, that means I’ve already exhausted all resources I have."
Jackson pulled her waist closer, keeping her still on his lap. "I don’t think they will bother you again, but if they do, then I’ll happily put them in their place."
"You sound like you’re going to kill them."
"God forbid if they so touch the tip of your hair again."
Her lips slowly stretched even broader, her eyes shimmering with relief and pride. "At this point, I am more elated at the fact you are here with me than chasing away those toxic parasites with vampire energy."
"Vampire energy?"
"You don’t know that?" Surprise shone in her eyes. "It’s like people that suck a person’s energy to the point it’s toxic."
"You hate vampires?"
"Jack, I’m talking about vampire energies, not the real ones."
"Why?" he cocked his head to the side. "Are you scared of the real ones?"
His lines of question were weird, but who would give more thought to this?
"Why would I be scared of the real ones?" Fil coquettishly moved closer to him. "I find them hot. Why? Are you a vampire? You did tell me you’re not human anymore!"
The corner of his mouth stretched from ear to ear, chuckling. "You still remember that?"
"Oh, I don’t forget." She winked. "I’ve been wondering what your fangs feel like on my skin."
"You are one hell of a tease, Filomena." Jackson tucked a portion of her hair behind her ear, eyes glinting. He moved his face closer, planting a quick peck on his lips. "I missed you."
Now that she thought about it, Jackson seemed to be always there whenever she needed him.
Her eyes softened with deep affection, playing with his hair with her fingertips. "I thought I’d miss you more tonight. How did you know your company is what I’ll need tonight?"
"Because I am one hell of a man?"
"How was the trip?" she asked as an obvious diversion, making him squint his eyes.
"Are you trying to avoid how great of a big fish I am?"
"No? I’m just curious about how your trip was. That’s all. The last time, you told me you were with Chris. How was he?"
Jackson’s attention was easily diverted as he thought of Chris. He did mention to her that Jackson made a quick trip to pressure Chris into finishing the ring. What he didn’t tell Fil was that Jackson had to take Chris’s rat (Chris’s pet) as a hostage while petting Dustin’s cat on his lap.
He could still remember how Chris worked tirelessly, afraid that Dustin’s cat would make his dearest rat its snack.
"When I left him, he’s already polishing it," said Jackson with a smile. "I would’ve waited for it, but something came up."
"Oh..." she rocked her head in understanding, this time, making him arch a brow.
"What is it, dear?"
"Nothing." Fil smiled. "It’s just that... I’m wondering what happened to your retirement plan. Did you change your mind?"
"Would you feel disappointed if I did?"
"No." Her smile broadened, cupping his face once more. "I just want to let you know whatever your decision is, I’ll support it a hundred percent. You can retire early and just love me for all you want, or you can love me while still working. Either way, we’re going to make it work, right?"
For some reason, Jackson remained quiet while staring into her beautiful eyes. The more he looked, the clearer his reflection in them. Seeing himself in those eyes reminded him of how he used to see himself way back. freёnovelkiss.com
When everybody sees him as nothing but a monster, an unwanted person, and a pawn in someone else board game, she looks at him as a man. A man who was also worthy of being loved, to be seen, and to be wanted.
His heart slowly swelled with countless emotions as he found himself leaning his face forward. His lips brushed with hers softly, cupping her face to still it for one passionate kiss. Her breath caressed his upper lip before he tasted her soft and sweet lips.
Fil smiled against his lips, finding her arms on his shoulders before she circled them around his neck. She let his long and slender hand pull her body closer, welcoming the warmth of his body to embrace her in safety. His kiss wasn’t the usual hunger and rushed just like what it usually was after not seeing each other for a while. Rather, his kiss and touch were gentle and caring, igniting a spark into a large flame.
When he pulled away, he rested his forehead against hers, both were breathless. A silent smile plastered on their faces, lifting her eyes that shimmered with unspoken words.
"I love you," she whispered, making his eyes slowly widen.
Jackson slowly moved his head back, staring at her with a mixture of disbelief and surprise. Seeing the look on his face, a chuckle escaped her.
"I love you, Jack," she repeated and planted another soft kiss on his lips. When she drew her head back, she cupped his face and said, "Please be careful with my heart. I’m giving it to you completely. So please, don’t give it back broken."
Jackson found himself in a momentary daze and before he knew it, a tear suddenly rolled down his cheek.
"Jack?" Fil flinched as soon as a tear tainted his cheek. "Are you okay? Were you hurt? Did I say something wrong —"
"Say it again."
"Huh?"
"Let me hear it again." He pulled her closer, his hand on her jaw. "You love me?"
The worry in her eyes immediately changed into affection. "Yes," she nodded. "I love you and I’ll repeat it as many times as you want. I love —"
The rest of her words rolled back to her throat as his lips pressed on her. This time, he didn’t let her go — he would never let her go. Even if the world would end, he would never let her slip away from him.
