Chapter 232: Planning to host a watch party

Fil knew she didn’t have to thank Jackson for it, but she was glad the man didn’t tire her so much last night. Considering he got so excited when she told him how much she loved him and that he made her detail what exactly he liked about him, he still considered she had work to do the next day.

"Ken!" Fil immediately changed course to Kenzo’s desk instead of going straight to hers. "Why are you here?"

Kenzo furrowed his brows as he leaned back in his chair. "Uh... because I work here?"

"Shouldn’t you be resting?"

"Resting already happened yesterday," he reasoned. "And today, I need to work unless I don’t want to pay my bills. Those things aren’t gonna pay themselves."

Fil sighed as she looked at him dead in the eye. "Really?"

"Haha. I’m okay." He laughed. "I was discharged last night, and the doctor told me as long as I follow his instructions, I’m good."

"Are you sure?" frёeωebɳovel.com

"Yep."

Worry still laced her eyes despite his reassurance. She couldn’t be blamed, though. Kenzo was one of her treasured friends and Fil only had a few days to spend in the office.

"Coffee?" he pushed himself up. "I know you’re worried, Fil, but I am okay and I will be okay."

Another deep exhale escaped her as she let it go. "I don’t want a coffee from the pantry."

His mouth stretched into a grin. "I know. Come. There’s a new open shop around here."

"He left?" Fil gasped in surprise, seated across from Kenzo. "Did anything go missing?"

"No." Kenzo shook his head. "When I came home, not only did nothing go missing, but it was squeaky clean. I almost thought I was in the wrong unit."

"Wow."

"He left a note, though," he continued in a knowing tone. "He said he’s grateful that I took care of him. He also mentioned you."

"Me?"

He nodded again. "He said he’s grateful that you gave him food." Kenzo smiled. "I’m also thankful for that, Fil. That dude has no money, and I only left him food good enough for lunch that day."

"You wouldn’t know you’d end up in the hospital." Fil smiled back at him. "If he left, that means he regained his memory, right?"

"It seems that’s the case."

"And he’s not a scam artist just as we thought."

Kenzo furrowed his brows. "What do you mean by that? I never thought he was."

"Oh?" Fil bit her tongue, avoiding the look he was giving her. "Fine. I thought he was strange, okay? I mean, if he didn’t turn up in front of us that day, we wouldn’t be in that situation. I thought it was his modus operandi. He also gives me this strange vibe."

"Well, I understand you, but Quentin isn’t as bad as you think he is."

"How so?"

Kenzo shrugged. "I just think he is a nice person."

"Ohh..." Fil puckered her lips, rocking her head in understanding. She knew Kenzo, and this guy wasn’t as gullible as she was. If he said Quentin was nice, then that only meant there was a reason for him to say so.

"Well —" Fil halted as her phone suddenly pinged. Checking it, her brows furrowed at the file Michael sent. "What is this?"

Curious, Fil checked the file and was assaulted by loud noises from a video.

"What’s that?" asked Kenzo while Fil quickly lowered the volume. "Sounds like it’s a brawl."

Fil pressed her lips into a thin line as she glanced up at him. "Ken, do you remember months ago when you found out what I was up to?"

"Yeah."

"Back then, you asked me what I truly planned. It’s this one." She slowly placed the phone between them and slid it in front of him.

Deep lines appeared on his forehead, confused at what she was saying. To know what she was talking about, Kenzo picked up her phone and watched the video playing. He squinted his eyes and his mouth slowly fell open upon catching familiar faces in the video.

"Is this... Marcus and Vincent?" he gasped, looking up at her wide eyes. "What in the world? This is intense!"

"I know."

"And?"

Fil shrugged as she took a deep breath. "That’s the plan I used to have."

"Huh?"

"When I found out that Marcus hurt you, I wanted to hurt him just as bad," she confessed. "I thought I could let things go and move on, but then, when I came back, you were in a hospital. So, I pledged that he’ll get to taste his own medicine."

"Fil, but you said you weren’t doing it for me." He frowned. "Were you lying?"

"I wasn’t. What happened to you is more like an added fuel to the fire." She forced a smile. "I just didn’t want them to hurt me or anyone I care about."

Kenzo opened and closed his mouth for a lecture on her life. However, Fil was neither gloating nor proud of showing him this.

"This is about Elise?" he asked, and she nodded.

"It’s also about me and how they always use and hurt the people around me." Fil smacked her lips. "It’s okay now, though. Marcus and Vincent might make up after some time, but I don’t think they’d bother me ever again."

"How can you be certain of that?"

"Because my fiance will kick their assess if they still won’t understand."

Kenzo arched a brow. "Does your fiance know these guys?"

"Yep."

"Not like that, but does he know what family they come from?"

Fil grinned from ear to ear as she nodded. "He knows, but he’s not the type to care. He let me handle things on my own, but he’ll happily step in if I asked."

"He sounds reliable."

"Because he is."

Kenzo smiled subtly, thinking that was another point for Fil’s fiance and another minus to him. After all, Kenzo hadn’t protected Fil. If anything, she was the one protecting him. The more he hears about this mystery fiance, the more Kenzo admits this guy sounds like the right man for her.

"Well." He cleared his throat and set his attention back to the video. "Ouch! Ohh... that gotta hurt."

Fil chuckled as he watched the video until he could no longer take it.

"That’s it. I would be surprised if those two wouldn’t end up in the hospital," he commented while giving back her phone. "Though they deserve it."

"They do." Her brows rose as she exited the video, only to see Michael’s message.

[From: Michael

Guess how many times I watched this? I’m thinking of hosting a watch party and we watch this at the cinema. Anyway, are you free later? I wanted to give you something before you go.]

"Anyway, why is Michael sending you that video?"

"He helped me set it up," she answered without a second hesitation, snapping her eyes back to him. "I know he hurt you too and I haven’t forgotten about that. But I also think he’s not as irredeemable as we thought he was."
