The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 233: A gift
Chapter 233: A gift
Fil had peaceful days when she left three months ago. Matter of fact, her days were full of calmness and peace. However, at the back of her head, she knew she was running away. Deep in her heart, she knew there were still unresolved issues she left behind, which would often cross her mind on her most peaceful and happiest days.
When would they come to find her?
Would they show up today?
How are they going to ruin her life again?
Myriads of questions would pop into her head every once in a while. In other words, Fil couldn’t fully say her days away were entirely peaceful.
Last night was the first those thoughts didn’t cross her. If anything, she felt weird; it felt surreal. She wasn’t scared they would appear on her doorstep or outside of her workplace. The quietness felt new — it was amazing. Above all, Fil could finally say she was at peace. She dealt with those people, saved Elise from Marcus’s schemes, stopped Marianne’s wicked play at hand, and avenged Kenzo.
Now, Fil only had one more thing to do.
Standing in front of the VIP room in one of the nightclubs, Fil knocked. It was still early for the nightclub to open, but since this was the address Michael sent her, she came. Hence, the usual music and the crowd one would expect were absent.
A smile turned up on her face as soon as the door opened from the inside.
"You’re up early," she pointed out at the hot mess standing before her. "What? Don’t tell me you hadn’t had a wink of sleep watching that clip?"
The corner of Michael’s lips stretched from ear to ear, pushing the door wider. "Take a look and see."
Fil shrugged and stepped into the VIP room. The first thing she saw was the organized papers on the table and the laptops. There was also a coffee mug on the side and some pillows on the lounge seat. But what truly caught her attention was the projector in the middle of the table. When she turned her head to the other wall, she furrowed her brows.
"You’re not joking when you said you kept watching it, huh?" she blurted out, in utter disbelief. "Is this how you’re planning to host a watch party?"
"Nope. I’m thinking of renting an entire cinema for it."
Fil looked back at him, watching him walk in her direction and stop near her side. He raised his hands with both his thumbs and index finger extended, making a rectangular shape as if he were taking a picture of the clip being projected on the wall.
"Wow," he said in awe. "What a sight to behold!"
"Goodness." Fil smiled helplessly. "You enjoyed that, did you?"
"Come on, Fil. Don’t tell me you didn’t?"
"Call me a hypocrite, but I’m just glad things ended."
Michael raised his brows momentarily before he smacked his lips. "Sit. I called for someone to prepare us some snacks."
"I don’t want to stay longer, but I’ll stay for half an hour."
"That’s fine for a date!" he winked at her. "It’s plenty of time for me to capture your heart."
"Stop that right now or this meeting will only last for 3 minutes," she laughed as she took a seat on the nearest part of the lounge seat. Michael sat down in the other corner so they could still see each other.
They humored each other for a while until the staff knocked with the snacks he was talking about. Much to her surprise, Michael prepared her a bucket of ice cream, which she liked.
"How did you know I like this flavor?" she asked while savoring the flavor in her mouth. "Don’t tell me you actually had a huge crush on me? If that’s the case, you’re not my type."
"You know what?" Michael moved forward and pointed a finger at her. "I always find you annoying, and you are. In case you haven’t realized that yet."
Fil chuckled. "I can be more, according to some people."
"That’s not something you should be proud of." He clicked his tongue and shook his head in disappointment.
"So?" after a minute of a good laugh, Fil tilted her head to the side. "Why did you ask to see me? You know I only came here because I owe you and to thank you."
Michael rocked his head before he placed down his glass of dessert. He then reached for his pocket, took out something, and then tossed it on the table. The small device slid and stopped accurately in front of her.
Deep lines appeared between Fil’s brows as she reached for the small device. Holding it in front of her, it looked like a car key with a button in the middle.
"Are you giving me a car?" she blurted out in surprise, looking at him in horror. "Michael, I don’t accept such gifts. In case you’re trying to buy my love, then I must tell you I’m getting married."
"Fil, do you really think you’re my type?" his question and his sarcastic tone made her expression die. "I might have the money, but I am not that generous in giving some people’s cars. That’s not a car key, but it’s an emergency device."
"An emergency device?"
He nodded. "I’ve been investing in this sort of stuff. It’s an emergency button if you’re in danger. Press the button and the nearest emergency station will come to you in minutes," he explained in simple terms. "The initial versions are already in the market, but that one is still under development. I want them to add some things. Try pressing the button."
"Pressing the button..." she murmured, pressing the button as told. She flinched when Michael’s phone started ringing so strangely and loudly. Looking up at him, Michael waved his phone in front of her.
"See?" Michael grinned as he glanced at his phone. "Your location is also shared with your emergency contacts. This works even if your phone is turned off or not with you. I think notifying your emergency contacts on top of alerting the emergency hotline is much better. Sometimes, loved ones act faster than other responders."
He looked up at her and smiled. "As much as possible, I want it to work with little to no risk. Impossible, but well, there won’t be harm to try, right?"
