The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 247: Then why did you marry him?
Chapter 247: Then why did you marry him?
Kim flew out of the country to the town she got so familiar with many months ago. Sitting in the private jet owned by Jackson, Kim stared at the dark sky and thin clouds through the window.
"She’ll never going to live again if he dies, Jack. I’m putting a stop to my mother’s suffering, and I hope since you’ve already had a chance to be together... you’ll be able to let her go."
Those were her words to Jackson, but they were also for her and Dustin. Fil had died and was reborn many times over the course of centuries. If Fil knew about this — if the original Filomena knew about this — she would be disappointed in them.
But how could they easily let go of someone who changed their lives?
"But this time..." she trailed off, thinking of the relationship she built with Fil.
These past several months, although Kim volunteered to lead the search for Quentin, she would occasionally see Fil. They were good friends; it wouldn’t be a stretch if they were called best friends now.
’After 21 lifetimes, I was able to laugh with her, stay with her, have meals with her, and show her my heart.’ Her eyes softened at the thought. ’I can live with that last memory.’
If Kim managed to end Quentin in this lifetime, Fil would never get reborn again. This would be her last life. Perhaps it would also be Kim’s last lifetime as well. After all, she was also exhausted from living without an end.
Just like Jackson, Kim also wanted one thing in this lifetime. Aside from putting her beloved mother to rest, she wanted one good life with her. One was enough.
"Mother," she whispered as her eyelids drooped. "Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like if you didn’t associate yourself with humans or if you had not fallen in love with a human."
Would they ever face this ordeal?
Deep in her heart, Kim knew they wouldn’t. If anything, they would still be living with just the three of them like always.

[FLASHBACK]
"Mother."
Appearing behind the woman people called Latrice and revered as their crown princess, her cloak couldn’t hide Kim’s grim expression. Her mother had disappeared when she said she would just go for a walk, only for her not to come back.
"What are you doing here?" asked Kim with genuine wonder in her voice. "Why did you suddenly associate with humans?"
Latrice slowly turned around to face a beautiful woman who looked the same age as her. The corner of her mouth curled up into a gentle smile.
"Kimerald," she called soothingly, making Kim’s breath hitch. She spread her arms and said, "Come here."
Reluctance appeared in Kim’s eyes, but she eventually gave in to her desires.
"Mother," she called, jumping into Latrice’s embrace like a child. "Turstin and I were worried when we didn’t hear from you again. We thought your enemies found you and..."
Tears brimmed Kim’s eyes, and she almost choked with her words. She couldn’t finish what she wanted to say because the mere thought of it scared her.
Latrice hushed her and gently coaxed her back.
"I was met with an accident," said Latrice gently. "However, I told you that you would know if I had died. I also know you will find me, eventually."
The two embraced each other until Kim released her. Taking a step back, she gazed at her beautiful mother and those same enthralling purple eyes, like those of a goddess.
"Why?" she asked once again. "I do not understand why you agreed to marry the prince. He is human — the same kind that killed your dearest companion."
Latrice smiled as an answer.
Seeing that she was only smiling so beautifully, Kim suddenly felt an ominous tug in her heart.
"You fell in love with the prince?" she asked in disbelief.
"It was love at first sight, Kimerald." Latrice slowly turned around, gazing in a particular direction where she would spend her day staring. "You and your brother knew why I left my home, subsequently stumbling upon two children who were born with bad fortune."
Kim pressed her lips into a thin line, knowing her story and why someone like her was walking among humans. Latrice wasn’t their biological mother; she only took them in because of some unknown reason. But they knew Latrice was searching for something else and hence, they had been on a continuous journey.
"He lives over there." Latrice pointed in a direction. "His name’s... Duke Jackson Fitzroy."
Deep lines appeared between Kim’s brows as she looked at her mother’s side profile. "It wasn’t your husband?"
"My husband was his friend."
"Then why did you marry him?"
"Because if I didn’t, he would give Jackson a hard time. I cannot meddle with human affairs." Latrice smiled, talking as if things were just as simple as how she told them. "I do not mind the hurdle, Kimerald. Time is all I have. So long as I get to see him occasionally, I am appeased."
Kim studied Latrice, a little taken aback at the affection swirling in the latter’s eyes. That look was different from when she was looking at them, her children.
A sense of jealousy rose in Kim’s heart, but she immediately squashed it down. Sharing her mother’s affection with someone who appeases her mother was the right thing to do. Even though it didn’t feel pleasant, she didn’t say anything.
Kim stayed with Latrice to chat with her until she heard approaching footsteps. That was her cue to leave. In the blink of an eye, Kim disappeared from the balcony and reappeared in a faraway distance. Standing on a tree branch, she caught the crown prince joining Latrice. frёeωebɳovel.com
"Give the duke a hard time?" Kim repeated Latrice’s reason for marrying the crown prince, only to find it odd. She gazed at the dashing prince, smiling from ear to ear as he talked to Latrice. "He felt... strange. Ominous."
Or was she just displeased at the fact Latrice was smiling back at him?
Kim shrugged off the thought and left, heading to the South to check what kind of human her mother fell in love with at first sight.
