Chapter 252: That’s absurd.

Days later, things had gone back to normal.

Fil and Jackson flew back to the country. Their initial plan was to pick up her parents so they could go to the resort together, but at Jackson’s insistence, the plans changed. Hence, the couple went straight to the resort while his people fetched her parents to their meeting place.

Fil spotted Jackson in the armchair, drinking his coffee while reading a newspaper.

"Good morning~" she hugged him from behind, planting a soft kiss on his cheek. "You’re up early."

Jackson glanced back at her with a smile. "Dustin already arrived today. He’ll come here later to test your dress and mom’s."

"That’s quick." Fil was in awe, looking at him innocently. "Will Kim also come?"

"Sadly, she has some international work."

"Work?" she frowned, a little worried. "I thought she told me she hadn’t signed any work until the wedding?"

"It’s the management’s decision," he said.

"Do you think she will make it to the wedding?"

Jackson bit his tongue, barely maintaining a short smile. "I’ll give her a call later."

"No need. I’ll call her myself." Fil pushed herself away from behind him and casually sat on his lap. "Are you going back today?"

"Of course." He pulled her waist closer. "I just had to deal with some... problems. But I’ll be back as soon as I can."

Fil frowned a little. "Is this about your retirement?"

"Yes. Retiring isn’t as easy since it’s a big change. Without a family member, I can’t just leave everything. Solana Project is the last project I’ll be handling."

"Goodness." She leaned his side on him, letting him carry all of her weight.

Jackson had been working on retiring and leaving the company for the past half a year. She didn’t know retiring for someone like him could be such a hassle. But thinking that the two of them would have more time together in the future, a smile dominated her face.

"Mom and Dad and Eli would be here soon." She slapped his chest mildly. "I’ll get ready."

Jackson chuckled, watching her happily return to the room. His smile, however, disappeared when she reached the room but left the door ajar.

’She’s fine again,’ he thought, thinking that after a good night’s rest, Fil was back to her old self. No more chest pain or nightmares. It was as though she even forgot she even had those.

A shallow breath slipped past his lips, only to raise his brows when he heard a knock. Marching toward it, his smile returned the second he saw Fil’s parents and Elijah.

"Wow! This is so pretty!" Fil clapped, her eyes twinkling with admiration while watching her mother try some clothes Dustin brought with him.

"Sadly, the dress cannot keep up with your beauty, ma’am." Dustin shook his head and sighed, earning a weak smile from Irene.

"Haha! Dustin, you’re making her shy!" Simon laughed heartily. "But it’s true, honey! You’re very pretty!"

Elijah, who was idling in the corner, glanced at his parents, Fil, Dustin, and his team. They were all praising Irene for her beauty, which he wouldn’t deny as well. His mother was beautiful. But he thought he should go out and play on his phone so as not to take up a lot of space.

The fitting lasted for hours until Irene was a little tired. Hence, Dustin sent away his team to their rooms to make some touches to the dress he chose for Irene. They had plenty of time. Thus, they were told the fitting for the rest of the bride’s family could be done in the following days.

"The MG Brand never accepted any bridal theme, but I understand why Mr. McGuire wants to do this," the staff chatted in the hallway as they headed back to their rooms. "The bride is very pretty."

"From what I heard from the other team, she’s her current muse for his latest design."

"That’s her?"

"Yes!"

"No wonder every piece looks like they were made for her!"

"Her mother is pretty too. I want to age just like her."

Everyone happily agreed with that until one of them couldn’t help but comment.

"But why does the bride and the mother don’t look alike?"

The rest of the bridal team looked at each other. They already noticed it earlier, but they were too busy with the bride and the bride’s family. They were also taking notes from Dustin, as they were all learning from him as well.

But now that this was mentioned, they couldn’t help but wonder:

Why was the bride didn’t look like her parents? One thing was, none of the family had purple eyes or anything close to that.

"Is she —"

"Shh!" one of the designers hushed. "This is not a matter we should pry. The bride is still our private client; the only client Mr. McGuire had taken in the past years. Let’s not try to pry on things that might put Mr. McGuire in a tight spot."

Everyone agreed and nodded.

What they didn’t know was that Elijah slowly came out of the end of the hallway. Turning his head to the team, he saw the team of designers pushing the racks of clothes and luggage with them. He heard everything they were talking about: the praises and the genuine puzzlements they had.

[Why does the bride don’t look like her parents?]

Elijah would know the answer if that question was thrown in his way. After all, he was just a child abandoned in the middle of the field and was picked up by the couple. That wasn’t a secret. Now that they mentioned it, Elijah was reminded of the same remarks in the past.

Some of his friends who saw their family picture also asked the same question. It was the reason Elijah wasn’t friends with anyone because such questions easily offended him. He thought they were just teasing him, but he couldn’t help but wonder as well.

"Is it possible...?" Elijah quickly shook his head to get rid of the question. "That’s absurd. There’s no way my sister is adopted as well."

In a VIP ward, Felix Hale held an old portrait of a beautiful woman with a pair of purple eyes. His eyes were soft and affectionate.

"Rebecca," he muttered. "I’m sorry for not taking care of our child."
