Chapter 259: Recent rumor

Days had passed in the blink of an eye. There were only eight days before the big day. During this time, all preparations were already done and everyone was already waiting.

"Fil!" novelbuddy.cσ๓

Fil turned, and her face instantly brightened up. "Elise!"

Elise squealed as she rushed to Fil, throwing herself to her happily.

"Oh, my god! I can’t believe you’re getting married. Kyah!" Elise wailed like a pig being slaughtered, holding Fil’s hands as they held each other’s hands. "Gosh! Look at you! Did you lose weight?! Our bride is glowing!"

Fil blushed, squeezing Elise’s hands. "I thought you wouldn’t make it!"

"Elise? Not making it to your wedding? Fil, you probably forgot about who she is."

Suddenly, Kenzo’s voice rang from behind Elise. Fil gazed up and her eyes twinkled, seeing Kenzo approaching.

"Didn’t you say you guys are working on another project?" Fil pouted. "Olivia confirmed it. So I thought now’s not the good time."

"Even if there’s a natural calamity, I’ll come!" Elise grinned. "I’m your number 1 fan, remember? I will be here when you need me!"

Fil’s heart felt warm, seeing two of her good friends coming into the resort to check their outfits for the wedding. Elise was her maid of honor. Hence, she didn’t want Elise to stress herself over the dress. As for Kenzo, it was just nice to invite him. Since Elise was coming, it was better if she had company.

Kenzo happily obliged.

"Where’s your groom?" Elise scanned the lobby like a hawk, earning a chuckle from Fil.

"He’s not here," Fil chuckled. "He had some matters to settle, so he goes for a few hours."

"Is‌ it okay for him to work before the wedding?"

Fil grinned. "He has an important role in the company."

"Elise, did you come here to interrogate her?" Kenzo clicked his tongue. "I’ll handle the check-in first and —"

"No need." Fil swiftly put out two keys and grinned. "My groom already prepared your rooms."

Elise’s eyes twinkled. "Wow. He’s a boy scout."

"I told you he’s reliable." A sense of pride peeked out of Fil’s eyes as she handed the keys. "You can leave your luggage at the check-in. They’ll take them to your room for you so we can have lunch together."

"Sure, sure!" Elise giggled as she hooked her arm around Fil, only to cast Kenzo a playful look. "Go and take our luggage. We’ll wait for you at the buffet."

Having shamelessly said that, Elise turned to Fil. "Fil, let’s go. Kenzo will take care of everything~!" and then she dragged Fil to the buffet, leaving Kenzo to carry all their things.

"I didn’t come here to be her assistant," Kenzo grumbled before carrying their luggage to the check-in.

In the buffet restaurant within the resort’s premises, Fil and Elise sat across from each other.

"Your family is also here?" Elise enthusiastically listened to Fil’s story. "Wow. Fil, your soon-to-be husband is loaded!"

Fil felt a little shy at the term used, but Jackson was indeed loaded. "He worked hard all his life."

"Gosh." Elise cupped her face, looking at Fil with mixed emotions. "This is really happening, huh?"

"I know, right?" Fil’s face softened. "It feels like yesterday when I was still within Vincent and Marianne’s clutches."

"Speaking of, do you know what’s currently going on with your ex-best friend and ex-boyfriend?"

"Nope." Fil shook her head. "And I’m no longer interested."

Elise pouted, itching to gossip about those two scums. "I was loaded with stories about them."

"Elise, I moved on. Although I see some news about the Hale Constructions, I’d rather not dwell on them."

"How nice to be mature." Elise sighed.

After that night when Fil caught Vincent and Marianne red-handed, Elise would check some news about them from time to time. She also checked any news about the Arkwright Corporation for her enjoyment.

Those people met with a series of bad luck. She couldn’t even see Marianne on the television or anything anymore. Rumors had it that she was marrying soon, but it didn’t seem Fil was interested.

Also, just recently, there was a new article that spread like wildfire on the internet. It was crazy. And although Elise enjoyed watching those people suffer, the news was just too shocking she hoped it wasn’t true.

"Elise?" Fil called for the third time, snapping Elise back to the current lapse. "Are you okay? Don’t tell me you’re thinking about the tea you wanted to spill?"

Elise frowned. "Yeah."

"Fine. Just tell me one."

"Are you sure?"

"Mhm." Fil nodded. "What is it about?"

"Well... I don’t know?" Elise scratched her head because, among all the gossip she wanted to talk about, her mind was more focused on the recent one. "Fil, just a few days ago, an article was released, and it spread like wildfire on the internet."

Fil’s brows rose, having a few guesses in mind. But when she heard Elise’s concern, she froze.

"The article is actually vague. It’s about a working student who was bullied by these rich kids and then all of a sudden, she went missing," Elise explained. "There weren’t any names mentioned in the article, so I thought it was just a made-up story. But when checking the comments, there were weird comments that mentioned Vincent and Marcus’ names."

Deep lines appeared on Fil’s forehead, remembering Michael’s confession to her about Alicia.

"I’m a little concerned because this commenter seemed to know about the details," Elise muttered, leaning closer to Fil. "Thing is, when this happened, you were still with Vincent."

"Are you asking me if I know about it?"

"No? But I’m a little worried because if this is actually true, then an investigation will start. Since you’re very close to Vincent at the time, you might get dragged by it." Elise explained. "Of course, I’m not saying you’ll be one of the suspects or accessories. But you know, just a waste of your time. Your wedding is coming up."

Fil offered Fil a smile as she reassured her. "Don’t worry. Even if that happened, I’ll give them a statement if necessary. Otherwise, my husband will deal with them."

"Your husband?"

"He’s very capable of these things," Fil bragged. "I don’t want to bother him, but I also do not want those people in my past to keep bothering me in the present. So, don’t worry about it anymore."

When those were said, Kenzo at the same time showed up and joined them. Elise and Fil dropped the matter and spoke about something else.

However, it still lingered in Fil’s mind.
