The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 306: The night they will be one
Chapter 306: The night they will be one
While Kenzo was trying his utmost best to be able to regain control over his body, Dustin cheered him. Dustin told him what to do, how to control his emotions, and how to fight the spell that was binding him in the circle.
"Just feel your own heart, Kenzo," Dustin guided carefully. "Carefully and slowly —"
The rest of Dustin’s words rolled back into his throat when his body left the ground. He gasped for air and before he knew it, his entire body crashed back to the ground.
Boogh!
Cracks appeared underneath Dustin’s body upon his crash, breaking his bones for a brief moment.
Everything happened so fast that Kenzo could only catch a breath. His eyes shook and after a second, his gaze fell on the person standing over Dustin.
"Vincent," he breathed out, shocked to the core.
Just a moment ago, when the fight between Jackson and Quentin broke out, Vincent just stood there like a puppet. Even amidst Kenzo’s state of confusion, he was aware of Vincent’s status. He even thought Vincent was in the same situation as him with only the difference that Vincent was outside the circle.
"Ugh..." Dustin’s grunt snapped Kenzo back from his trance.
"Dustin!" Kenzo yelled, clenching his teeth as he realized the cracks Dustin’s body made upon the crash.
Dustin carefully gazed up at Vincent, whose eyes now carried life, but only darkness swirled in them. "Kenzo, stay in the circle. This is not Vincent."
"What do you mean — Vincent!" Kenzo shouted as Vincent lifted Dustin’s body again, throwing his away to the nearby tree.
Dustin landed against it violently. As a result, the tree broke and fell on the side.
Kenzo could only hold his breath after witnessing this. He gulped when he sensed Vincent’s eyes fall on him.
Oh, no.
Kenzo slowly turned to Vincent, eyes dilating as he saw Vincent march in his direction. He wanted to move back, but he couldn’t. He knew his life would be over if Vincent threw him just as viciously as how he threw Dustin.
A low growl escaped Vincent as he approached, but then, he stopped. Gazing down, he clenched his teeth and his face twitched,
"What?" Kenzo’s eyes also fell on Vincent’s feet, noticing that Vincent stopped before the tip of his shoes touched the line.
Vincent then stepped back.
’He can’t enter?’ Kenzo furrowed his brows, lifting his gaze to Vincent.
Now that Vincent was closer to him, Kenzo noticed that the look in Vincent didn’t seem human. It was more like a monster — a feral animal whose yet to transition. Even the faint growl he was making was almost the same as a beast.
Vincent peered at Kenzo while tilting his head from one side to the other. Under this intense gaze filled with blood lust, Kenzo felt like Vincent was trying to think of how to get him out of the circle.
’He wants me out of the circle because he can’t get in here?’ Kenzo wondered, keeping his widened eyes at the man. ’Why? Why is he avoiding the circle?’
While wondering about it, Dustin’s cough echoed in the air. Kenzo’s breath hitched as Vincent’s eyes veered in Dustin’s direction.
’Oh, no,’ Kenzo panicked, not realizing he was able to turn his head without a problem. "Dustin!"
The moment Kenzo’s yell slipped out of his throat, Vincent growled and jumped toward Dustin.
But alas...
Vincent stopped when he felt a hand holding his ankle. Looking down, his eyes widened because half of his foot already crossed the circle.
"Hehe." Kenzo let out a weak chuckle, holding Vincent’s ankle. "What’s gonna happen now that you’ve crossed the circle?"
Even Kenzo didn’t know what would happen to him if Vincent crossed the circle. However, he couldn’t just watch Vincent beat Dustin even more. Dustin was Fil’s friend, but during their weekend getaway, Kenzo and Dustin bonded somehow.
"Kenzo..." Dustin, who just saw this, gazed at Kenzo with equal shock and confusion. But what he was shocked the most was that Kenzo was still grinning despite that. "Why...?"
Kenzo slowly shifted his eyes at Dustin and nodded slightly.
Seeing that slight nod, Dustin’s heart sank. Even a human-like Kenzo, whom he only met and bonded with, would rather sacrifice himself for him. Bitterness and shame filled Dustin’s heart as tears blurred his vision.
"I should be the one protecting them..." Dustin clenched his teeth as tears rolled down his cheeks. ’But in the end, I was being protected even by a powerless human about to be sacrificed.’
Just then, a force suddenly pulled Vincent’s feet and he flew right straight in the circle. Kenzo’s hold on his ankle loosened on instinct.
Thud!
Vincent crashed onto the other side of the circle with a violent thud. But unlike how he threw down Dustin, the ground underneath him didn’t crack. Even so, he hissed painfully before a scream escaped him.
"Ahh!!!! Ahh!!!" Vincent smashed his arms against the ground, trying to roll on his stomach and push himself away. But alas, he kept falling on his chest, still screaming as if he was deep in pain.
Smoke — dark mist slowly appeared from his back as if it was coming from his body.
"What’s going on?" Kenzo panicked as he tried to sit up. He already regained control of his body, albeit still feeling a little weak. "Dustin? What’s happening to him?"
Dustin gulped, unable to respond immediately, as he had his eyes fixated on Vincent. "It’s starting."
"What?"
"The ceremony... it’s starting —" Dustin’s breath hitched as he set aside all his emotions and cast Kenzo a look. "Kenzo! Get out of that circle now!"
"I can’t —"
"You can now! The circle is taking his life force first! Get out of the circle now!"
Even before Kenzo could understand the complicated things Dustin was spewing, he already pushed himself up. He might’ve regained control of his body, but he felt too weak. Not to mention, the cut on his wrist was still bleeding with all the careless actions he had done just now.
As Kenzo crawled away, Dustin’s eyes caught this faint red light and slowly crawled around the circle. It started from the smallest circle within where Vincent was and was now slowly making its way toward its next target.
"Kenzo!" Dustin yelled louder as the red lights slowly caught up to Kenzo. "Get out! Now!"
Kenzo clenched his teeth and pushed himself away. But just as he reached the line of the circle, he felt something wrap around his ankle. Looking back, he caught this seemingly bloody shadow slithering around his foot.
"No," he whispered before he was pulled back and tossed back near the coffin.
Dustin’s mouth fell open as his heart briefly stopped beating for a moment. Once Kenzo was pulled back and his body landed near the coffin, more and more shadowy hands appeared within the circle.
"No..." he breathed out, watching the dark hands straight from the circle reach out to the people in it.
The circle also shone brightly, making the hands from the ground look darker.
It had started and once a spell started, there was nothing that could stop it anymore.
"We failed..." Dustin’s heart sank as Kenzo started screaming along with Vincent.
The hands on Vincent and Kenzo were pulling them down to the ground. Even if the two tried to fight it, their skin and faces only stretched hopelessly.
"No," Dustin repeated under his breath, telling himself he had to do something. Even if he was chained, he had to do something.
He might not be able to stop the ceremony while being bound, but he could buy Kenzo and possibly the rest of Fil’s family sometime.
With that thought in mind, Dustin desperately rolled his body into the circle. It was a pathetic sight, but he didn’t care. If Kenzo was willing to sacrifice himself to him, Dustin could do the same.
After all, they were... friends.

Meanwhile, at the foot of the hill, Fil stood there quietly. She gazed up at the top of the hill. From a normal person’s eyes, she wouldn’t be able to see what was happening over it. But with her reawakened clairvoyance, she could see their struggles.
"Mom, Dad..." she whispered as her focus moved to the people being swallowed by the circle. "Eli... Elise... Kenzo..."
Her face crumpled in dismay, a little heartbroken to see their state. When her vision fell on Dustin and how he was struggling to crawl his way to the circle to make himself a sacrifice, a tear rolled down her cheek.
"My son," she whispered, closing her eyes as she tried to control her building anger.
"Latrice." Suddenly, a voice rang behind her. "It is time."
Fil slowly reopened her eyes and turned around. There, standing several meters from her was the vampire council that came to help Alamo fix this problem. Or more like, help so Fil could stop this madness, she, herself created.
Her eyes scanned the faces under their cloaks. Most of them were familiar faces she had seen in the past. When her gaze landed on one of them, she offered a smile.
"It’s alright, Chris," she whispered, making Chris look away bitterly.
A shallow breath slipped past her, and she nodded.
"Then, stay back." Fil slowly turned her back on them and gazed up at the hill. "Tonight, Filomena and I will be one."
