The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 313: Fate
Chapter 313: Fate
"Hey."
"Hey." Alicia smiled as soon as she answered the call while walking her way home. She hadn’t said anything yet, but Michael — the person on the other end of the line — already noticed her good mood.
"You seemed to be in a good mood. Tutoring is okay?"
Alicia pressed her lips and hummed a tune. "Well, I got fired today."
"You got fired?"
"Mhm."
"Then why do you sound so happy?"
"Because I found a better student." Her lips stretched a bit, recalling her short session with Elise.
Her first meeting with Elise was not even near to how she first met Shanaiah. They mostly talked about their schedule and what subject Elise wanted to focus on. After that, they chatted for a little more to get to know each other.
"She’s a good person, just two years younger than me," Alicia added. "She also said she’ll tell some of her friends to join the session so that they could all study together."
"I see." Michael rocked his head approvingly. He could detect that this time, Alicia was telling him the truth. He knew he was lying about the first student she tutored. The change in her tone was palpable after her first tutoring session with Shanaiah.
"I’m looking forward to it!" Alicia expressed. "If her classmates want to join, I’ll gladly give them a discount. It’ll still be the same rate as the one Shanaiah promised to pay me. But even if they changed their minds, it’s alright."
"I know it will be," he hummed. "I’m glad you were fired."
"That’s a heartless thing to say."
Michael chuckled. "I just felt like the first student is a bad kid."
"She isn’t that bad," Alicia replied, but compared to Elise, Shanaiah was bad. "But oh well, things still turned out good, so it’s okay. Anyway, how’s your health?"
"Why are you suddenly asking about my health? I’m not dying."
"Is it bad to ask about my sickly brother?"
"I’m not sickly anymore," he said meaningfully. "Thanks to you."
Alicia chuckled. "Good to hear you’re doing better."
"I’ve always been better after the operation," he replied before his tone slightly changed. "Alicia, why did you send back the money I sent you?"
"Brother, I told you I’m okay."
Michael sighed. "But I’m not okay with you having to work multiple part times."
"I’m enjoying it! Moreover, I just told you about my tutoring gig. If all goes well, then I might be able to quit the other part-time jobs. Elise is a bit rich, but also a good kid."
Having said that, the two stayed on the line to talk about just about anything until Alicia reached home and had to wash up.

Meanwhile, once Alicia hung up, Michael smiled in satisfaction. He had been worried about her since he noticed Alicia’s change of tone after her first tutoring session with Shanaiah. He knew his schedule and thus, he timely called just to know if she was okay.
"It seems she’s fine now," he muttered and then sighed. "If only she used the money I give her."
Another deep sigh escaped him because even though Alicia was fine now, his worry for her lingered. Glancing at the papers on the side table, he picked it up and held it in front of him.
It was a one-way ticket to where Alicia lived.
"She won’t get angry if I told her I’m branching out, right?" he wondered because he already made a valid excuse so he could watch over her. "Well, it’s not like she had a choice once I’m in there."
The side of his lips stretched a little, thinking that even if Alicia wouldn’t accept any financial help from him, he was close to her. Hence, he could be there whenever she needed him.

Years later...
In the penthouse of the most exclusive condominium building in the country, Fil watched the news with a cup of coffee in her hand.
"I guess no amount of help can help them from facing this type of situation."
[Breaking News: The son and only heir of the Arkwright Corporation was arrested in the drug operation... along with him were some of the well-known elites...]
Helping Alicia get out of a dreadful situation also stopped Shanaiah and Marcus from doing the unspeakable. It was part of the cause and effect. After all, Shanaiah and Marcus were able to avoid committing a murder several years ago. However, even if they avoided such scandal, here they were, making headlines.
"Well." Fil shrugged and just watched the news while enjoying her morning coffee. "And they ended up being friends with Marianne too."
Vincent was nowhere in sight in the news. Anton also didn’t become friends with them. It wasn’t surprising because Anton only became friends with them because of Michael. Or rather, because of Vincent and then Michael was the only one who lured Anton into becoming a pothead.
"Everyone’s life changed," she whispered with a subtle smile on her face. "Michael is also making headlines because his business is quickly leading into investments. Anton is still successful and maintains his friendship with Kenzo."
"Vincent..." Fil hummed as she wondered about what Vincent was doing in this lifetime. The last time she checked, he was still a student from another university. That man didn’t intrigue her and thus, she didn’t bother checking. But now that Marcus, Shanaiah, and Marianne were raided and arrested by the narcotics department, it somehow tickled her curiosity.
Just as Fil got up and thought of what she would do today, the news moved on to entertainment news. She stopped, snapping her eyes at the television before her lips curled up.
[Kim Rock once again hailed as the blue-chip endorsement heiress as she took the runway of the MG Brand by storm...]
In this life, Kim and Dustin still pursued what they pursued in the first time. They asked for her permission, of course. It wasn’t like she thought her permission mattered as she gave her children so much freedom throughout these millennia.
Moreover, those two were too bored.
And just as expected, Kim and Dustin excelled in their chosen career.
"I’m happy for them. They’re really having fun," she whispered, leaving the television on as she sauntered away to do the rest of her morning routine.
As Fil walked away, the news once again changed into the business segment.
[The Solana Chain of Hotels won the bid in the redevelopment... and the price for a piece of land skyrocketed into 300 percent. This joint project with the leading investment company as of this moment...]
As the newscaster stated the important details of the current news in the business world, Michael and Jackson’s pictures taken from the press conference were shown.

When Fil finished her morning routine, she quickly drove her way to check on Vincent. She found him almost immediately. After spending many centuries following and watching people, it had become easy for her to find someone without any information whatsoever.
"I see. So, he ended up working in Michael’s company, huh?" she lowered the newspaper that was blocking her face, sitting in the lobby of Michael’s company. "Well, I guess growing up with barely enough changed him in a way."
Looking back, Vincent was a kind soul as a young boy and as a teenager. Fil wouldn’t fall for him if he wasn’t humorous and kind. However, the truths behind Fil’s parentage changed his heart, and having rotten friends like Marcus and Shanaiah didn’t help.
But now, watching Vincent happily greet some of the workers in the lobby with a bright smile, Fil was one way or another satisfied. Her brows rose when she noticed a young lady run up behind him.
"Valerie?" she whispered, watching Valerie reach Vincent and give him a small lunch bag.
Vincent smiled and accepted it, walking his little sister out of the building instead of running to his post.
"They changed," she whispered, smiling in satisfaction. "I guess the divorce of their grandparents humbled them."
Now that her curiosity was soothed, Fil had nothing else to do here. She got up and folded the newspaper, following Vincent and Valerie out of the entrance of the building. She stopped for a moment, watching Vincent hail a cab for Valerie.
"Take care, okay?" Vincent said as he bent over to talk to Valerie, who was already inside the cab.
Valerie smiled and nodded. "I’m always taking care of myself. You should take care and eat all that lunch. I put my heart and soul into it."
"Haha. Alright, alright." Vincent then turned to the cab driver and handed him the fare for his sister.
As the cab drove away, Fil already turned to her car. She was glad those two became more human instead of monsters in human skin.
While Fil walked in the opposite direction to get to where she parked her car, a few vehicles rolled up in front of the building. Vincent furrowed his brows before he noticed multiple important figures of the company rush outside.
Vincent was quickly pushed to the side, curious about the person who arrived at the company. When he saw men step out of the vehicle and surround the last person to come out, Vincent’s mouth fell open.
"Is that... Jackson Sisson?"
