The Exalted Prince Lives Again-Chapter 48: COMB 110
Chapter 48: COMB 110
’Mirae.’
When Lucien rotated his head to avoid William, he accidentally looked at Mirae, who for some reason felt like air the entire class.
Her presence was paper-thin, moved like a ghost, and even looked like one.
’Is she an assassin?’
Lucien deduced almost instantly.
That would also explain how she was ranked higher than he in the exam, and it wasn’t even close.
The bell test was perfect for any assassin who had nigh-zero presence and moved like a ghost.
Mirae, who felt someone looking at her, also turned to look at the gaze.
Her presence was so low that even if she stood in front of anyone, they might still ignore her.
Even in this class, only two people ever noticed her.
Nancy Richter, who was a peak Warden Exalt, and Lucien Callastre.
And it wasn’t the first time either.
She wondered how he was weaker than her, but still could sense her.
’I should smile.’
She clumsily raised her hands to wave at him and even stretched her lips to smile.
Or at least tried to smile.
’Why is she clenching her fists and looking at me like that?’
Lucien got strangely excited, about to stand up, when suddenly, he was interrupted.
"Lucien Callastre!" A familiar voice called him out.
He turned around and noticed a familiar face standing in front of her.
The brunette from the entrance exam.
"You know what class this is, right?" The brunette shouted, attracting all kinds of attention.
—"Why is she shouting against the Prince?"
—"Take out your phone and record this."
—"Female trouble on day 1? This will be a hit."
Lucien nodded and answered, "COMB 110. Combat Conditioning. Mandatory for all combat department students."
Fwap!
He immediately caught a white glove that was headed straight for his face.
"I, Janet Larson, challenge you to a duel against the humiliation you made me face that day."
Murmurs rumbled throughout the class.
A wide range of emotions was swirling around, but the most dominant ones were curiosity and excitement.
They wanted to see the Prince in action.
The Rank 2 of the Warrior class.
’Geez, talk about being impatient.’
Lucien smirked, standing up to her.
He immediately towered over her rather average body, looking down at her.
Both glared at each other, and Lucien let out a slight smirk, "I refuse."
Gasp!
Janet let out a loud and deliberate gasp, trying to grab even more attention.
"Is His Highness scared of me?"
Her tone was over the top, clearly trying to rile up the crowd and force Lucien to either accept the duel or commit social suicide.
"Remember I told you something during our fight back then?" Lucien asked, confusing Janet.
She frowned, "What?"
"That your weapon technique was flawed and incomplete?" He raised his voice too, mimicking her behaviour to embarrass her.
"I would fight you when you learn at least the first step of that completely."
Lucien put up a condition, not to let her bother him anymore, but she was stubborn.
"I was just tired that day."
"And so was I. We both had the same amount of time, lady."
Lucein retorted and started to leave for another class, when Janet hopped in front of him again.
’God, this lady is annoying.’
"Just admit your are a pussy, and I will leave."
She shouted in his face.
"Is that what you say to the mirror every day?"
Her frown deepened.
Lucien rolled his eyes in frustration, knowing what would happen now.
She would explode in anger.
He already knew what kind of lady she was.
"What was your rank, again?" Lucien chuckled.
"..."
She gritted her teeth, getting humiliated in front of everyone.
"Oh right," He leaned in, grinning, "76, was it? And that too because of your goons whom we defeated that day?"
That really struck a nerve there.
"You fucking bastar–"
"That’s enough."
Just as she was about to explode in front of everybody, a third voice interrupted them.
It was deep, and everyone’s attention was drawn to him.
A towering figure stood behind them, glaring at the duo with a sharp and oppressive glare.
Gray hair, a rugged and masculine face, with a towering stature.
His muscles were bulging, almost ripping apart his tight shirt, hugging his body.
Everyone knew who it was.
The professor of Combat Conditioning.
Gary O’Donnell.
"I was wondering why nobody had arrived for 5 minutes already."
In the Academy, being punctual was one of the most important disciplines, and being late was a big deal there.
Gary glared at everyone, making them cower in fear.
"As a punishment, Lucien and Janet would have a proper duel." freeweɓnovel.cøm
Janet’s face lit up, her eyes sparkling at Gary, which was quickly shot down by his glare.
Lucien, on the other hand, was annoyed by this unfairness.
How was any of this his fault?
He didn’t even budge from Gary’s glare and maintained proper eye contact, which surprised Gary.
He raised his brows in surprise and pulled away towards others.
"The sorcerers watching here would give me 5 laps around the entire training ground, while the warriors would give me 50."
And finally, he looked at Janet once again.
She flinched.
"Since you are the main cause of everything, you would run 50 laps around the ground if you win, and 80 laps if you lose in the next week."
Janet’s face was drained of any color, rendering it pale like Mirae’s.
Everyone was glaring at her with hostility.
’Why are they mad at me, when they stopped to watch the show?’ She raised a valid question, but couldn’t speak it out loud.
She didn’t want to be the public enemy of others.
At least she had her way.
"Follow me," Gary shouted, and everyone obeyed.
...
Inside a massive hall with dozens and dozens of platforms made up of strong stones, the cadets had surrounded a single one.
"Let me set up some ground rules," Gary shouted on the platform, making sure everyone heard him loud and clear.
"No duel taking place in this very hall shall be fatal. No serious injuries or fatal strikes are allowed."
Everyone nodded, and he continued,
"Also, don’t worry about breaking anything. This first-year training ground can withstand any attack of Elite rank or below, so you can go all out. And finally, offenders would be immediately stopped by me and be punished severely."
