Chapter 49: Lucien vs Janet

’I was hoping for a fight against Mirae when she clenched her fist.’

Lucien misunderstood Mirae’s intentions horribly, but it wasn’t his fault.

Anyone would in his situation.

Mirae wasn’t the greatest at expressing her emotions after all.

"You won’t be lucky this time, soft hands."

Lucien was genuinely surprised by her words.

How could one be so ignorant and arrogant after running away from a fight previously? freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Was her ego really that inflated and fragile that she thought this way?

Was it because her parents spoiled her a lot?

At least she didn’t brag about her parents anymore in front of him.

How could she?

As long as her parents were anything lower than a king or guildmaster of an Obsidian rank guild, they were below his father.

"Don’t you know anything other than just shouting?"

Lucien spoke, his tone annoyed.

"Are you scared?" Janet taunted him even further.

"Professor," Lucien looked towards Gary, and continued in a calm tone, "Can we start?"

"Heh!"

The professor chuckled, seeing his face and tone.

He wasn’t angry, just frustrated—a trait not so common in normal teenagers.

"Sure." He backed down towards the edge of the platform.

"Both parties ready?"

Janet nodded with a grin, and Lucien nodded expressionlessly.

"Fight!"

The second the fight started, Janet charged towards Lucien at her full speed.

Lucien also sprinted, not wanting to use his [Mirrorstep] carelessly.

He could just humiliate her if he wanted to, but that would achieve nothing.

He wanted to teach her a lesson.

[Split Thrust.]

She used her weapon technique almost immediately,

She used her pre-existing momentum to pivot herself and, in one smooth motion, she thrusted it towards his torso.

She knew it was fatal, but she also knew that in the worst-case scenario, Professor Gary would save him.

Lucien moved to the right, but the spear moved along with him without much effort.

The precision of [Split Thrust] was almost like auto aim.

Clank!

But Lucien just parried it with his sword.

Shriiiing!

The spear constantly tried moving towards him, but the sword kept it at bay.

"This is what I am talking about."

Since the momentum of the sword was amplified due to the technique, her body was constantly moving forward, leaving her sides and back exposed.

This was the fatal flaw of the incomplete weapon technique.

Bam!

Eugh!

He punched her right in her liver, his fist coated with spirit energy.

Aargh!!

She screamed in pain and stumbled like a drunkard.

Bam!

Another punch came, hitting her right in her back.

She groaned.

"If you had learned the full technique and then challenged me, you would know how to cover your unguarded parts during the execution."

Not wanting to torment her anymore, he simply rotated his sword and placed it on her shoulders.

He remembered his position.

He was her senior in a way, and simply torturing your juniors wouldn’t teach them anything.

"Lucien Callastre wins."

Gary declared loudly.

Lucien looked around.

A plethora of emotions was etched on everyone’s face.

Some people were excited, some were curious, some were shocked, and some were scared.

Not everyone there had the confidence that they could go toe-to-toe against that.

"Come challenge me when you complete this technique."

He spoke to her and climbed down the platform.

Clap!

A loud clap grabbed everyone’s attention.

"The duel’s over, and everyone, get running."

Aww!

They nearly forgot about that in between all the excitement of a duel.

"I wouldn’t let anyone leave until they finish their punishments."

His ultimatum was more than enough for everyone to move their asses.

As they left, Gary looked at them and spoke, "As for you, Lucien, you can practice your own weapon technique, footwork, or anything as you please."

Gary picked up Janet and handed her to the female workers in the hall to transfer her to the infirmary.

Lucien nodded and unsheathed his sword.

He had no time previously to practice them, but he knew that he should start doing them now.

It was crucial to his overall prowess.

He decided that he needed to practice his footwork more than his weapon technique, since he needed the speed to keep up with his own self.

’Also, I have to learn a new footwork technique.’ He mumbled under his breath.

When Lucien had a breakthrough into the Adept realm, he was eligible to move on from the basic footwork and weapon technique.

He was provided a manual for the techniques by the royal palace, which only the direct heirs were supposed to practice.

And reading those manuals, he realized something.

His sword technique from the previous life was superior to the one provided by the Palace, but somehow, his footwork technique wasn’t.

So learning the footwork first would aid his overall combat strength faster.

As for his previous weapon technique, he just had to practice a bit.

If anyone asked why he wasn’t using the sword technique provided by the Palace, he could simply say that he didn’t trust a sorcerer family’s technique.

Sure, that would be stupid, but that’s what Lucien was supposed to be.

Stupid.

[The Ghost’s Stride.]

What kind of name was that?

Anyways, he had already memorized the technique’s functionality and how to perform it.

All he had to do was practice.

At this basic level, he could move with exceptional quietness and control.

It was all focused on stealth, and even on rugged terrains, he could traverse silently.

The technique was very well-optimized, to the point that he wondered how the Palace even got their hands on this.

Who made this?

Not only was it perfect for stealth, but as one got familiarized with the technique, the gliding and smoothness would also boost his speed and agility.

It was crazy how versatile this was.

But it was equally challenging to learn, too.

And Lucien really liked challenges.

High risk, high reward.

"Professor," He called out.

"Hmm?"

"Can I run with them? I have to practice my footwork."

He asked diligently.

"Sure, do whatever floats your boat." Gary agreed instantly. "You are not being punished."

As the first group of warriors was finishing the first lap within seconds, he shouted,

"Any warrior who doesn’t have a good enough weapon technique and footwork, contact me after the class. The Academy would provide them with the proper ones."

This system was in place mostly for commoners, who didn’t have access to expensive and rare techniques.

They had talent, which just needed manifesting, and the Academy provided techniques for every Cadet..

"And sorcerers, if anyone lacks the basic spells of their corresponding elements, please contact the MAGC 105 Professor after the class."

He shouted loud enough to let the sorcerers, who were still on their first laps, know.

But just as they were about to start, an unexpected guest arrived.

Selene Vossberg.
