“Mr.
Ward, where are we heading?”
Carson Flores picked up Vincent Ward at the Yu’an Pavilion, and, as directed by Mr.
Ward, drove towards a five-star resort hotel.
“The patient is from out of town.
Tonight, the patient’s grandfather is holding a banquet at the hotel and has invited me.
I’ve heard he also invited the famous doctor Raphael Schneider…”
Carson Flores chuckled, “Are we preparing for a consultation with famous doctors?”
Vincent Ward’s expression was somewhat complex, “Raphael Schneider is also one of the four renowned doctors.
We’ve had several conflicts over academic disputes, and we have never gotten along.
I originally didn’t want to get involved, but I owed the patient’s grandfather a favor and couldn’t find a reason to refuse.”
Carson Flores laughed, “It doesn’t matter much for treating illnesses, but when all the famous doctors have their own opinions and none want to give way, whose advice will we take if there’s disagreement?”
Vincent Ward gave a wry smile, “That’s exactly what I’m worried about.
The patient is a child not even two years old who cannot speak, so I asked Mr.
Flores to join me, to prevent any mishaps.
Adults can quarrel, but the child is innocent.”
Carson Flores nodded, “Alright, I’ll help take a look.”
Half an hour later, the car arrived at the hotel.
Although Vincent Ward had an invitation, Carson Flores was stopped because he did not have one.
Mr.
Ward was quite displeased.
You ask me to come to treat your family member, and you stop me from bringing a plus one?
You might as well stop me from entering too; I’m not too keen on coming anyway.
Although he was angry, they were already at the doorstep; it wouldn’t make sense to just turn around and leave.
Enduring his irritation, Vincent Ward made a phone call, and soon a man who looked to be a secretary came out, and the guards finally let them through.
“Mr.
Ward, the child was crying for a long time and has just fallen asleep.
The boss wants to let him sleep a little longer.
Please would Mr.
Ward join the banquet first and conduct the consultation after it concludes.”
Mr.
Ward frowned but ultimately nodded, “Alright!”
After the secretary left, Vincent Ward and Carson Flores found a place to sit down.
Carson Flores looked around at the opulence surrounding them.
“Who is this person, acting so high and mighty?
The doctors have arrived and are just left hanging, and he doesn’t even show his face.”
Mr.
Ward gave a bitter smile, “In the eyes of the powerful, doctors exist to serve them.
Even if they are polite on the surface, how could they truly value them in their hearts?”
Carson Flores smirked, “That’s true.
In their view, it’s merely a matter of price.
If one hundred won’t do, five million will.
Offer a heavy reward, and which doctor wouldn’t be tempted and go all out?”
Vincent Ward laughed, “Money moves the heart.
How many can be like Mr.
Flores?
A few days ago, Shawn Simmons personally paid a visit, expressed his gratitude, and brought along five million.
After I refused, he switched to gifting an old ginseng of at least two hundred years.
It was impossible to refuse, so I accepted; though my medical skills are inadequate, to receive such a generous gift is truly shameful.”
Carson Flores smiled casually in response, “Once you’ve accepted it, don’t worry about it.”
Guests continued to arrive, men dapper in their suits and women dazzling with jewels, all vying for attention.
Vincent Ward was dressed appropriately in a white traditional suit, which, coupled with his age, gave him a certain demeanor.
In contrast, Carson Flores, in his black T-shirt and jeans, appeared rather out of place.
Many cast surprised and scornful glances his way, as if looking at a country bumpkin who had stumbled into a palace banquet.
Mr.
Ward apologized, “Mr.
Flores, it was my oversight.
I thought we’d just treat the patient and then could leave, so I didn’t remind you to change clothes for the banquet…”
Carson Flores waved his hand and said with a laugh, “A person with inner strength isn’t troubled by the gazes of the ordinary.
Even if you had reminded me, I’d still dress this way.
I’m not the same kind of person as them, so why should I compromise and try to fit in with them?”
Vincent Ward was taken aback for a moment.
Looking into Carson Flores’s clear eyes, he felt abashed, “I was shallow!”
As they conversed, a group of people entered through the door, comprising two middle-aged couples and one young man and woman.
Carson Flores glanced over, and his gaze suddenly focused.
Samantha Tate!
Samantha Tate was wearing a blue off-the-shoulder evening gown that evening, with a diamond necklace draped around her fair neck.
The pendant at the end of the necklace drew the eye as it nestled between her curves.
With Samantha Tate was Ethan, dressed in a white suit.
His appearance wasn’t bad, but there was something off about him that made him come across as overly flashy.
Ethan was speaking to Samantha Tate with keen interest, yet her beautiful face seemed to be etched with the words “back off, stop talking to me,” replete with disdain.
Carson Flores turned his head back and smiled at Mr.
Ward, “The grandfather of the patient, he’s not the Real Estate King Leonard Reid of Seashore City, is he?”
Mr.
Ward’s expression revealed a hint of surprise, “How did you know?”
Carson Flores pointed at the people who had just entered, “The Dariel family members mentioned it when I went to administer acupuncture to Old Master Dariel.”
Mr.
Ward suddenly understood, “Yes, that’s him.”
Carson Flores smirked, it really was a small world!
Samantha Tate, who was forced into socializing that night, had just entered and was looking for a quiet corner to stay in.
As she scanned the room, her eyes immediately found Carson Flores, conspicuously dressed in his black T-shirt and jeans amidst the lavishly attired crowd.
Samantha Tate’s eyes suddenly widened, her gaze filled with pleasant surprise, and a smile quickly spread across her stunning face, blooming like a flower, too beautiful for words.
“Carson Flores!”
