Chapter 100: Ursula could only save a few

Seeing Violet safe made Ursula’s heart finally relax, thought unease still clutched her heart, she was okay, and Violet, didn’t blame her. Hearing that washed relief over her. She needed that reassurance, to know she was forgiven for being a part of the pack that took her and probably hurt her really badly.

Her Alpha had been clinging to Violet like feathers on glue, if he kept this up it would be really hard to sneak her away, even with Selene’s help.

Alpha Micheal gathered the attention of the guest and made an insane announcement. ’Did he really just claim Violet would be her New Luna?’ Ursula eyes widened with shock looking dead in Violet’s eyes asking the same question Violet was asking herself.

’What did he say?’

The room had grown silent, the heads of the guest looked around at each other before turning back to Alpha Micheal.

And then to Ursula’s surprise her Alpha King agreed. Ursula and Selene exchanged looks of confusion and followed with an applause.

’This just became a whole lot harder’ they both thought.

Out of the blue, an eerie aura surrounded Ursula, it felt malicious, evil, demonic even. With a loud crashing sound, Ursula saw Ash burst through the windows shattering them. She shivered seeing Ash in a frenzy, tearing through people she’s known all her life. For a moment she was frozen in fear. She couldn’t move, she couldn’t think, she couldn’t breathe.

Blood sprayed from wolves ripped in two. Another loud bang and a loud roar from outside the ball room.

Howls from the pain of being poisoned and bitten from people she’s known most of her life.

All around her people were falling down dead.

"Violet, I have to go, I have to save as many of my people as I can. The Vampires are here for you, they’ll protect you, you don’t need me but they do." Ursula grabbed Violets hand and gestured around her. "There are children he..." Ursula didn’t have to finish her sentence Violet silenced her by putting a finger of her lips.

"Go, save as many as you can, I’m sorry. And I will vouch for your innocence. Be safe." Violet nodded firmly.

Ursula spared no time and immediately took off dashing around bodies scattered across the floor. She ducked low and after getting away from the main hall she started to gather as many people as she could and ushered them towards the servant’s doors.

Inside many pack houses, in the main house, there’s a system of servant halls built into the wall. They lead into most parts of the house. She would use these secret passages to smuggle people out of the direct path of danger.

All around Ursula the cries of injured and ying wolves were everywhere, her heart was filled with sorrow and pain. Tears threatened to break free as she ran as fast as she could.

While trying to usher away a little purple haired girl that was hiding behind a curtain, knees curled to her chest, a vampire jumped her from behind. Grabbing the her by her hair Ursula ripped the unsuspecting vampire over her shoulder dropping her hard on to the ground. Ursula slammed her foot through the vampire’s chest, crushing her rubs. The horrific sound of bones cracking under her foot would be imprinted on her mind forever. The vampire laid lifeless on the ground, her skin turned the color of Ash and her eyes sunk in before glazing over.

Ursulas heart was drumming in her ear. Racing out of control. Tears formed in Ursula’s eyes. A few even escaping down her cheeks. She’s never killed anyone before. She was a murderer now; she ended this woman’s life. In that moment a part of her broke. She’d never be the same again.

"It’s okay, if you didn’t kill her, she would have killed you and then me. You were brave. You saved me. If you didn’t kill her, you’d have been responsible for my death too." The little purple haired girl said to Ursula.

Ursula hadn’t noticed how hard she was shaking just now. Not until the little girl grabbed her hand and started leading her to the servant’s door. Ursula shook her head and snapped out of the daze she’d entered after killing the vampire.

"You’re right. What’s your name little girl?" Ursula asked.

"Raven. Miss." She answered. Her voice surprising wasn’t trembling, she was handling this relatively well.

"Well listen up Raven, I need you to keep up this strong and brave attitude. There are a lot of scared people where you’re going and they’re going to need someone with courage to help them. Can you be that person for me?" Ursula asked getting down to the girl’s level.

"Yes, I think I can do that." Ravens mouthed shut firmly and she narrowed her eyes, giving Ursula a fighting face.

"That’s my girl. Now go, fall the this hall, you know where to go?" Ursula asked.

"Yes, my mom works here, she was working tonight so that’s why I’m here. My dads on patrol..." Ravens words trailed off. A deep sadness seeped into her face, darkening her expression "I can’t feel my dad’s connection anymore."

Raven looked up into Ursulas eyes, tears burning her. Squeezing them shut and rubbing the hot tears from her face with the sleeve of her arm, sniffling.

"We’ll find him, I promise, but you have to go be brave now, just like me. I have to go and find more survivors and help them find their way to you. Okay?" Ursula asked trying to steady her voice, she was struggling because of how panicked as she was.

"Okay." Raven answered, quickly opening and shutting the door.

Ursula turned around quickly and started rushing back to the ball room.

The smell of iron and wolfbane burned her nose and stung her eyes. The sounds of snarls and hissing had died down but not gone. Getting on her elbows she crawls on the ground seeing small shoes underneath the a table, she slowly made her way over to the little shoes hiding under the table.

Ursula grabs hold oh the child under the table and drags him out, quickly covering his mouth. "It’s me, don’t scream, I’ve come to get you out of here." Ursula said to the child.

His big golden eyes looking up at her, his face red with fear, and he trembled in her arms.

"Prince Ambrose it’s okay. I’m going to take you to safety." She said to him reassuring him.

"Where are my parents?" He whimpered.

"Out defeating the vampires. Protecting you, so I’ve got to do my job and save as many people as I can. Understand?" she asks.

Ambrose nodded. Ursula led him out of the ballroom, "careful where you step and don’t look backwards." She said "Just keep moving forward, come on." Ursula urged him to move faster. She needed him to not look back, if he did. She knew he’d see his parent bloodied and dead on the ground, and that was the last thing she wanted for him. To see his parents like that.

Selene. Her heart ached for her new friend and Luna Queen. Her body cold and the light in her eyes gone. Anyone seeing their mother like that would be soul shattering.

Ursula thought of her own mother, a sense of dread started to overcome her, what if she didn’t survive? What if she’ll never see her mother again? Her heart ached as she ducked through the halls hiding with a small child in tow. Finally reaching the servants door she looks to Ambrose and says

"It’s time to be brave now. I need you to go in that room and be the leader you were born to be. Protect your people Prince Ambrose, you’re our future. My future King."

"I can help, please let me come with you." Prince Ambrose pleaded with her.

"No, Ambrose it’s not safe. I need you to keep safe, there are people that need their king in that room, and right now you’re who they need. You will bring them hope, be there light in their darkest hour. Remember I said we have a job to do, your mom, dad and I, you have one too. Protect the people in that room and stay safe. Understand me?" Ursula asked gripping his shoulders firmly.

Ambrose sniffled, but nodded confirming that he understood.

"Good, now go." Ursula insisted. Ambrose did what was asked of him and entered the servant’s room quickly.

’At least I was able to save the prince. We weren’t without a king.’ Ursula said to herself.

After taking the servants paths herself, she ran through to the kitchen gathering as much food as she could. Putting thing in bags, grabbing fruits and dreads. She dumped everything within arm’s reach in a bag. Stuffing it all in the small elevator, she pulled the rope bringing the bags upward towards the servant’s private quarters.

Leaving the kitchen, that’s when she spotted the vampire brothers a standing, huddled around Violet. Ash looked up and locked eyes on Ursula. Breaking away from them he approached Ursula, and just as he was about to shove his hand through her chest Violet slid into his mind.

"Stop. Don’t you dare touch her."

Narrowing her eyes at Ash when he looked back, she didn’t need to know his thoughts to know what he was thinking.

"You heard me, Ash. Don’t touch her, she’s innocent." Violet said aloud this time.

Everyone now looking up and looking dead at Ursula.

"Traitor." Oliver coughed.

"Shut it Oliver, I’ve had a rough day and she really is innocent." Violet snapped.

Everyone just stared back at Violet, stunned by her sudden aggressive outburst.

"Ouch, Violet, that hurt my feelings." Oliver pretended to be hurt by her words.

Violet believed him through and quickly changed her tone. "I’m sorry Oliver, I didn’t mean to sound so mean."

Ursula just stood face to face with Asher eyes locked. He was growling, his aura murderous. His body bathed in the blood of her people. She knew something bad would happen because of her alpha’s stupidity, but she had no reason to believe it would be this bad.

Ursula was trembling in front of Ash. ’this is it’ she thought ’this is how I die, in the hands of my own friends.’ She gulped.

’Ash, don’t you dare, you’ve killed enough people tonight, please don’t add anymore, especially anymore innocent ones.’ Violet said to Ash inside his mind.

He growled "I want you and whoever else survived tonight, out by tomorrow night, or I’ll kill off the stragglers, am I understood?"

Ursula nodded with a loud gulp.

"Good, now get out of my sight, and don’t let anyone else see you. I can’t control all the vampires." Ash growled at her again before turning and leaving.

Ursula looked at her friend one last time and smiled.

Her friend was safe. Violet survived. Looking into Violets gentle face, and Violet smiled looking back.

Ursula took off running down the halls to the closet servant’s door quickly climbing inside and locking it behind her. She went around locking as many doors as she could find from the inside that could lead to inside the palace. She returned to the elevator dingy and pulled the food from the back and ran to the servant room.

Knocking on the locked door, an older man opens the door, "It’s Ursula everyone, thank the moon goddess you’re alright."

The older man opens the door wide letting Ursula inside.

"What’s happening out there?"

"What are we going to do?"

"Are we safe here?"

"How long are we going to hide out here?"

"Why is this happening?"

"Have you seen my children?"

"Have you seen my mom?"

"Is everyone dead?"

The last question silenced everyone.

Finally noticing how quiet the pack channel had gone, it was silent. Like no one was in contact with anyone outside this room.

Fear and loss where the only feeling that now radiated in this room.
