Chapter 212: To please the one you love (1)

"The queen seems to be leaving the palace. She had a few of her things packed up but we weren’t told where she would be going or who would be joining her," said Julia.

Julia travelled out of the palace after dinner to personally deliver what she thought was good news to Grant.

Grant poured himself a glass of wine as he listened to Julia. "The king can’t be joining her so she must be going to see her family. Let another maid go with her as there is something I want you to do. What I gave you hasn’t brought any good news so I am changing to something else."

"Unless. Unless you were lying to me about having her drink what I handed you? How am I not to believe that you have come to like the queen more and you’ve-"

"I did not! Sorry," Julia apologised, lowering her head because of the mistake.

It wasn’t long before she was drenched by what Grant had in his glass.

"Do not interrupt me. Has the ways of the palace turned you into a fool? You were more well-behaved when you were in my sight. Enough time has passed for the queen to lose a child. If it is announced that she is pregnant, I have no choice but to think that you screwed me over," Grant said, putting the empty glass down on the table.

Julia did not attempt to wipe the wine from her face and moved fast to pour more wine for Grant. "I’m sorry for failing you. I will make sure there is only news of her losing a child. It might please you to know that the maids are speaking about your granddaughter being the king’s lover and comparing her to the queen. Some are in favour of her."

"Of course they are," Grant answered as only a fool would pick someone else over Linda. "What matters isn’t their words as them preferring Linda will do nothing for me. I need to get her into the king’s room. That girl lacks sense."

Julia poured the wine for Grant and offered it to him but he did not take it. "She is loyal to the queen. I could help her get to the king if she wanted."

Grant became frustrated whilst thinking of how Linda wasn’t focused on what was before her. Once again he regretted not raising her in his home as she would be different. "The queen being out of the palace would be the best time to set her up with the king. Have any of the other women gotten close to him?"

"No. He doesn’t speak to them as well. It is said that the king is loyal to the queen-"

"I know that young bastard well. He’s known for sleeping around so why now he is loyal? It wouldn’t surprise me if another woman was warming his bed in secret. Linda must be first. You, was it you who did something to the maid?" Grant asked, remembering what was written in a letter from Franklin.

"I did," Julia confessed. "She was in my way getting close to the queen. They won’t find out that it was me. They can’t prove that it was more than a drunken accident."

"Well done," Grant applauded her as she was finally showing just how determined she was to please him. "You are doing something right and in exchange for that, I have a gift for you. The maid who slapped you is dead."

Julia smiled as it was a fitting end. She was curious about what had happened to the former queen’s maid. She would have liked to be the one to end Jane’s life but knowing that she was dead was enough for now. "Thank you. You are too generous. I shall bring you good news soon to please you."

"This is what you need to use," Grant said, handing Julia the small bottle similar to the one William had sent to him. "Give it to her in the morning so she will lose a child should she have one while she is at her parent’s home. The Wallaces need to be tangled up in this. They’re a little too happy for my liking."

Julia took the small brown bottle from Grant. It was far smaller than the bottle she had hidden in her room.

"A drop of it is more than enough as long as she drinks all of whatever you put it in. Give it a try," Grant instructed Julia.

Julia stared at him in shock. He had not ordered her to drink any of the one before so why now? "I am not pregnant."

"I can never be too careful. You would make a good test for it so drink," said Grant.

Julia didn’t want to drink it. She knew that she didn’t need to drink it because it had been a long time since they had been intimate. Whenever she came all the way here to see him it only ever ended with her pleasing him and if she did it wrong, she received the bruises the maids spoke of.

"Why are you punishing me? Sorry," she apologised, bowing her head once more.

"I take good care of you and those siblings you have with you yet all you do is fail me. Don’t you think you deserve to be punished a little? Killing that maid benefitted you more than it did me. You’ve failed me and I won’t be able to hold back killing you much longer if I don’t punish you so drink it," Grant said once more.

"If you don’t do it, I won’t take care of you anymore. Think of how you will care for your siblings without me. Do you not love me?"

"I do!"

Julia looked down at the bottle in her hands. She wasn’t pregnant so it should be fine for her to drink a little. She couldn’t lose Grant so she opened the bottle and brought the opening to her mouth to take a sip. She was surprised to find that it was just water.

Grant knew the chance of her being pregnant by him was not possible but he had to see that he still had a hold over her. That Julia was still desperate to please him so she was willing to drink whatever he offered her.

Seeing that she gave in, Grant knew he could still control her but he wasn’t fully pleased as she would have once drank it without hesitation. Julia needed proper scolding to get her back to how loyal she once was.

"Good girl," he complimented her though he was still angry. "You know that I care for you, Julia. It just upsets me when you don’t listen to me."

"I am sorry," Julia apologised. "If I do better and bring good news to you in a few days, will you hold me?"

Julia wanted nothing more than to feel his love. She couldn’t get the bracelet Linda wore out of her head as it made her think of Grant’s wife. She wanted one to wear in private too to show that she was a Henson.

"Do that and I will give you all that you yearn for," Grant promised.
