The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 467 - Maybe You Should Know Her Better
Chapter 467: Chapter 467 - Maybe You Should Know Her Better
Jacob’s heart was broken, feeling lifeless. He had lost two people dear to him and lost the will to live. "You said she would make it, but she died," he accused Robin.
Sabrina switched off the LED screen and left the living room. Her heart was already heavy, and Jacob’s behavior made it worse. freeweɓnovel.cøm
She had hoped that Laura would return for Jacob to settle down and have a family, but her hopes equally crashed.
Robin thought about what he had just seen and heard over and over again. The deeper he thought about it, the greater the certainty in his heart that things were not as they seemed.
"I don’t think so. Laura is smart. The report shows that she killed Julius, so how could she be caught in her own fire? It’s impossible," Robin raged.
For a moment, Jacob was stunned as he stared at Robin. "How do you know her so well?" He asked, feeling jealous of the fact that Robin might know Laura better than him.
As Robin faintly guessed what Jacob was driving at, he asked seriously,
"Do you think I will just entrust my family to her without knowing her capability? Laura survived a burning ship. She was trapped underwater and survived. Bullet wounds are like candy to her. Something we don’t know about happened, but I don’t think that Laura is dead."
Hope returned to Jacob’s heart, but then again, something was not adding up, no matter how deeply he thought about it.
"So, whose body was burnt?"
Robin was clueless in that aspect. "I wasn’t there, and I don’t know." He wished he could get the details of what happened at the banquet but knew it was impossible. This issue has become a government matter, and every piece of information will be well protected.
Robin was sure that not even Peter would be able to get the information he needed about the banquet.
"You weren’t there, but you are so sure that she is alive," Jacob probed. A part of him believed Robin, but another part of him kept being jealous of how much Robin knew about Laura, which Jacob didn’t know.
"Maybe you should know her better. Beyond intimacy, I mean," Robin retorted, feeling slightly annoyed.
How can a man claim to love a woman and not know her capabilities? Robin felt that Jacob was not doing a good job of knowing the woman he claimed to love.
Jacob’s teeth gritted and he was torn between crying and having hope. In the end, he could neither cry nor smile, just forcing himself to believe that Laura was alive.
As Robin rose from the sofa he was sitting on beside Jacob, his phone rang. Checking the caller ID, it was Pete, so he answered the call.
"Robin, I saw the news. Do you think she committed suicide?" Pete asked as soon as Robin answered the call. The latter grimaced and asked on the phone,
"Where are you?" Peter had not informed him that he left Africa, so Robin was curious.
"Manhattan. I came for a small business," Peter replied. Robin asked him,
"Do you think she would commit suicide?"
Peter had read Laura’s file, so he knew the kind of person Laura was. This was the reason why Robin asked the question.
If his brother thought he was being unethical in thinking that the news on the lips of the media was wrong, then it was good to seek a second opinion.
"It doesn’t seem so, but what other explanation can we give concerning the body in the fire?" Peter asked. Robin could not answer but maintained his stand on the matter.
"I don’t know, but I don’t think she’s dead."
"I tried to hack into the government server, but they are on high alert at the moment because of how fresh the news is. Let’s give it some time, and I will be able to find something for you," Peter assured him. Robin smiled,
"I will be grateful."
A few days later, at the funeral home, a short service was held before Ethel’s body was being lowered to the ground.
All friends, family, and sympathizers were there, but no one could console Jacob’s grieving heart. This time around, he was not just grieving his mother but also Laura.
If she had indeed escaped and was alive, then why hadn’t she gotten in touch with him like she promised? It was certain that Jacob lost Laura too.
"Brother, take heart," Robin hugged him tightly and spoke. He knew that Jacob did not believe his saying that Laura was still alive but didn’t care.
Everyone was entitled to their opinion, so Robin would never force Jacob to believe what he didn’t want to.
When he pulled away, he saw a woman step out of a sports car. She wore a long black dress and two-inch heels.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, a man sat in the car and drove it away.
Her head to her shoulder was covered with a black shawl, and she wore sunglasses. Robin couldn’t recognize the woman, and yet, he felt as if he knew her.
He felt strongly that it was Laura in disguise, but ever since he met the girl, she never wore skirts or dresses.
Black pants seemed to be her favorite, as that was what she usually wore.
Robin never looked at any other woman except his wife from the moment he turned over a new leaf, but this woman made it impossible.
The more the woman approached, the greater his confusion that there was something about her that made him feel as though he knew her.
Sabrina was uncomfortable with whoever had captured Robin’s mind and looked in the direction Robin was looking. Seeing a woman, she frowned a little.
As the woman reached where Robin was standing, her cologne scent caused both Robin and Sabrina to stare at her questioningly, but she lifted her forefinger and covered her lips, signaling them to be quiet.
Robin sighed with relief as Sabrina’s heart did a flip with great excitement.
When the woman looked at Jacob, sorrow filled her eyes as she went and hugged him from behind. Jacob stiffened when he felt the arms wrapped around him.
It felt so familiar, he turned in the direction of the woman and instantly removed her sunglasses. "Laura?"
