The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife-Chapter 466 – It’s her. It’s Laura!
Chapter 466: Chapter 466 – It’s her. It’s Laura!
"What happened? Tell me. Have you heard from Laura?" Robin asked all at once.
Jacob spoke with remorse, saying, "I wasn’t able to get a better agent than Julius to back up Laura and Mom’s condition kept deteriorating," he revealed bitterly, adding,
"She said that she knew her time had come and didn’t want to go to the hospital."
Jacob sighed. "Then she also said I should just be by her side and that was exactly what I did."
Robin understood what his twin brother was feeling, as it was the same thing he felt when their parents died.
He knew that words would not be enough to ease the pain but still comforted his brother the best way he could.
"Then yesterday in the wee hours of the morning, I was sleeping on the couch in her room and could foresee that her condition was getting worse. She wasn’t breathing well and her inhaler wasn’t helping like before," Jacob continued to narrate the full story with Robin giving his complete attention.
"Against her protests, I carried her to the hospital and the doctor made a shocking revelation."
"What was that?" Robin asked with a serious expression, Jacob explained it to him.
"He said that mom had lung cancer and she was aware."
Robin was numb from shock, wondering how something so important as that could be hidden from Jacob.
"Didn’t you always go to the hospital with her?" Robin asked and Jacob let out a bitter smile.
"I did but sometimes, the doctor would have me excuse them to discuss things with her. She hid it from me just as she refused treatment because she was tired of being a burden. She wanted me to have a normal life. That is what she said after the doctor made the revelation."
This was the first time Jacob took Ethel to a hospital in New York. If he had known, he would have taken her earlier.
"It was already too late for anything to be done for her as things had progressed beyond medical assistance so she died. Smiling."
Robin frowned and asked, "What do you mean by smiling?"
"She had a smile on her face when she died, it was so peaceful that I envied her. How could she be happy when I’m hurting so much?" Jacob was in so much pain.
Ethel was the woman he grew up with as a mother, so even after knowing all the evil she did, he couldn’t bring himself to hate her. Her passing opened a wound in his heart.
"There is a time for everything, Jacob. No matter how healthy a person is, they will never live forever. Our mom died very young. Dad followed a few years ago. Imagine losing two people I loved so much. In the end, I found happiness again," Robin encouraged him with his experience.
Losing his parents, especially his mother, wasn’t easy for him. He handled it the wrong way and hurt so many people.
Robin didn’t want that to happen to Jacob, for which reason he devoted time to be by his side. Good thing he had an understanding wife.
"The pain you are feeling will not last forever. It will heal and you will find peace and joy again. It’s just a matter of time," Robin assured him.
Jacob wiped another tear and replied, "I know that what you say is true but it hurts." He was glad to have united with his twin brother before this happened. If not, he would have been very empty, as he never really liked friends.
Ethel had brainwashed him against friends for fear of getting exposed, but somehow, Jacob had clicked with Robin’s friends and they became his friends too.
It was no wonder he never had time for relationships, including having a girlfriend. She soaked him into her business that the little time he had left was always spent with her.
"At least you have me. You have Sabrina. Grandma, the twins, Daniel, Devin and their wives. You also have a special woman," Robin tried to divert his attention to see the brighter side of things, which worked for a moment before fear settled in Jacob’s heart again.
"What if she doesn’t come back?" Jacob cried helplessly, feeling empty once again.
Having a brother was one thing, but his little time spent with Laura gave him a different expectation of life.
Robin was confident about one thing. "I know Laura’s capabilities. She will come back. I don’t know when, but I just know it."
Even when the agency refused to give him information about Laura’s past, Robin built trust in her achievements.
Jacob was about to say something when Sabrina came rushing down the stairs, and Robin grew worried, fearing that something bad must have happened.
"Please be careful, my queen."
"You guys should see this," Sabrina said, turning on the huge LED screen in the living room before stepping aside to give them a clear view.
She was chatting with Lizzy on the phone when a notification popped up, but when she found out it was being reported live, she felt that both Robin and Jacob needed to see it.
"An assassination attempt on the life of the vice president failed when an unidentified assassin appeared in time and killed the two assassins," a reporter was reporting live from the presidential banquet.
In the background it showed how security agencies were moving up and about at the banquet, trying to put things in order.
"The leader of the assassins escaped but was still apprehended by this unidentified assassin in his hotel room. The leader of the assassins, identified with the code name Agent Q, alias Julius, was murdered in a barbaric way."
"It seemed that the unidentified assassin was unable to escape the fire she set to burn down the hotel and was burnt beyond recognition. The vice president, with a heavy heart, extends his appreciation to this unidentified assassin and hopes to repay her kindness to any family member or the agency she works for."
"Investigations are still ongoing to reveal the identity of the unidentified assassin."
Jacob felt his heart drop to his stomach as he yelled with teary eyes as the screen showed a woman hiding in something like a vent, her face was covered with a black mask.
"It’s her. It’s Laura!"
