The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 654 - 647 Drowned
Chapter 654: Chapter 647 Drowned
Thirteen Techniques was a stick, a kind of weapon.
To hold Thirteen Techniques with one’s own hands is to find the weapon suitable for oneself, for the size of everyone’s hands varies, and so does the length of Thirteen Techniques.
Thirteen Techniques was the first weapon that Gao Yuan truly learned, and also the simplest.
Gao Yuan had used wooden sticks, spears, knives, axes, hammers, and even large iron clubs.
But using a wooden stick against monsters was truly a first.
And sticks, would they actually be of any use?
Although hesitant, Gao Yuan still reached out and took the Thirteen Techniques that Xiang Weiguo handed to him.
It was like coming full circle; Gao Yuan ended up using the weapon he was most familiar with, yet also the strangest to him.
However, this Thirteen Techniques felt different, definitely not a wooden stick, for it was noticeably heavier when he held it, but it also was not quite as heavy as an iron club.
"What material is this? Can it take a few swings?"
Gao Yuan swung it casually, and Thirteen Techniques made a whooshing sound in the air, feeling much heavier in his hand, like a commoner waving a willow branch.
"It’s made of eight thick steel wires, good steel, the best steel, not just some rebar slapped together. It’s wrapped in carbon fiber weave and layers of resin. Xiaoyu’s dad made it, and I haven’t even had a chance to use it yet. It’s a bit heavy, not very handy for me. It’s enough for killing zombies with wood, but against monsters, if you gave me a steel rod I still wouldn’t be able to swing it."
There is a distinct difference between simply picking up an iron rod and expertly wielding one.
Xiang Weiguo was clearly not the type who could go to battle swinging an iron rod, not even in his younger days, and as for Gao Yuan, he would break a wooden stick in one hit, but an iron bar? That’s what suited him best.
But now, all he had was an axe and Thirteen Techniques, which was surely better than nothing at all.
Just then, Gao Yuan watched as Jia Weidong struggled to stand up. He walked a few steps over and then called out loudly, "Have we run out of fuel?"
Xiang Weiguo looked at Jia Weidong with surprise and said, "Hey, you’re still alive? That’s great, that’s great. I thought you had died honorably. Come on up and hide in the vehicle."
Xiang Weiguo turned around and yelled at the several Mechas frozen in place, "What are you waiting for, not coming out? Leave the Mechas."
The opening and closing of the Mechas were powered by electricity, to ensure safety; once sealed, they had to be impervious to zombies and monsters and bulletproof. But without their own power source, meaning if the energy vehicle were to malfunction, they would have to forcefully push open from the inside with manpower, which would be quite strenuous.
He had just yelled for Luo Xingyu and the others to get into the modified 59, but Xiang Weiguo quickly changed his mind and shouted again, "No, don’t come out! Stay in the Mechas, we don’t have time!"
For the sound of the monsters’ galloping was already upon them, signaling their imminent arrival.
Gao Yuan jumped beside Jia Weidong, who urgently said, "This electromagnetic gun is broken before I even got to fire it, quickly hand me another gun..."
"Will you quit your yapping."
As Gao Yuan lifted Jia Weidong onto the top of the modified 59, Xiang Weiguo made way for the hatch, then without hesitation mocked Jia Weidong.
"Hand you a gun, and do you think you have time to fire off thirty rounds? Stay put in here for me."
After reprimanding Jia Weidong, Xiang Weiguo grabbed a rifle with a bayonet attached and started to climb onto the roof.
Gao Yuan was completely astonished, "What are you going to do?"
Xiang Weiguo waved a Type 56 semi-automatic in his right hand and said, "Bayonet charge..."
Gao Yuan pushed Xiang Weiguo’s head back down with one hand, an old man trying to engage in bayonet fighting was not a joke, it was an act of folly.
The hatch of the Type 59 was extremely heavy. Gao Yuan lifted it with his hand and said, "Mind your head."
The hydraulic rod-supported hatch closed, and Gao Yuan stood atop it. Then he first pulled out the ax tucked at his waist with his left hand, noticing something odd at that moment.
His body was slick and without a stitch on.
Gao Yuan was stunned. After a moment’s thought, he figured his clothes must have been shredded and blown away by the shockwave just now. That was normal; those who died under artillery fire never had their clothes intact.
Gao Yuan’s clothes had first been burned, and were already in tatters, the recent explosion had simply blown away the rest. That was only to be expected.
But his first reaction was to look at Xinghe, lying next to him.
Fortunately, as monsters approached, the first one that rushed out of the darkness was not even discernible in appearance. It wasn’t until Gao Yuan swung his club with a smack on the creature’s mouth, smashing its entire head, and then kicked the monster flying away that he could vaguely make out that this monster resembled a dog.
It only resembled one, but it certainly wasn’t a dog, for this creature was much larger than any dog.
The Thirteen Techniques remained unscathed, giving Gao Yuan some additional confidence, as they were indeed quite handy to use.
Yet, this manner of fighting was an eyesore and certainly didn’t match the splendor he deserved in a fight to the death.
"I... this... this..."
As a superhero, he had survived the fire and the explosion, but Gao Yuan had no clothes fitting for his stature.
But before Gao Yuan could feel any sense of shame, monsters charged at him again.
The monsters had a clear target: Gao Yuan atop the vehicle. As for the Mecha lying on the ground, the monsters showed no interest.
A humanoid monster approached at high speed, leapt, and lunged straight at Gao Yuan in mid-air. Gao Yuan’s response was simply to swing his club, knocking the humanoid creature to the ground.
With too few in number, Gao Yuan was basically not afraid of any monsters.
Except for the Colossal Worm that seemed to be starting to move.
The sound of a thousand horses galloping came from far to near, and was now close at hand.
Gao Yuan bent slightly at the waist. The two fast-moving creatures didn’t even count as appetizers, the incoming tide of monsters would be his real test.
It had been about twenty minutes since the battle began.
In just twenty minutes, the battle had seen several twists and turns. Now, only Gao Yuan remained with a sliver of fighting strength left.
That was what fighting the Serpent People was like; the duration wouldn’t be too long. Both sides brought their strongest forces, either to wipe out all the monsters in a short time or to be overcome by them.
Xinghe had used all its energy to eliminate the vast majority of monsters, but the small part that remained was still too much for Gao Yuan.
There was no need to even think about it; Gao Yuan could not defeat the remaining monsters, as their numbers were at least in the tens of thousands.
With a boom, the sound that approached from afar suddenly amplified, then Gao Yuan swung his club fiercely. He followed with a punch that smashed a humanoid monster’s head, then shouldered another out of the way, and with a backhand blow, broke the neck of another with his club.
In an instant, Gao Yuan was submerged in monsters.
