Chapter 655: Chapter 648 Fear

Gao Yuan probably couldn’t last a second.

Because in less than half a second, Gao Yuan had dispatched four monsters with punches and kicks. This speed wasn’t slow, but the problem was that just as he had sent four monsters flying, more swarmed around him.

With a light ’pu’ sound, the sharp spike, Spiked Shell, pierced through Gao Yuan’s lower back, protruding over a foot from his belly.

Less than a second had passed, and Gao Yuan had already been impaled by the arm of a humanoid monster. How could he continue to fight like this?

Gao Yuan turned around, his left arm swung downwards, and as he felt a severe jolt and twist in his stomach, he broke the humanoid monster’s arm with his fist. Then, wielding a stick in his right hand, he swept around in a circle, and with consecutive ’snap snap’ sounds, he ducked down and stretched his leg out again for a sweeping leg kick.

A sweeping leg followed by a 360-degree spinning kick, a move that would be impossible in real combat, was now performed by Gao Yuan with extraordinary effect.

Because no monster could withstand Gao Yuan’s strikes, those that should have stopped him from completing the entire motion were sent flying in all directions by his strength.

An unrivaled power allowed Gao Yuan to clear a space about a meter away from him in an instant.

Then, this circle less than a meter in diameter was filled in a millisecond.

Another surge of pain came as a monster bit onto Gao Yuan’s left arm, a giant beast similar to a lion or tiger in form, with a comparably large size, biting down hard enough to take most of Gao Yuan’s arm in its mouth.

But the larger monster took up the space of other creatures.

Gao Yuan bent his arm; it seemed as though he had touched the monster’s tongue, so he grabbed hold of it and used the momentum of his rotating body to swing his left arm, which flung the beast—several times his size—into the monsters closing in on him.

A circle with a three-meter radius opened up around Gao Yuan.

"Shit!"

Gao Yuan dropped his arm, slamming the monster hard onto the roof of the modified 59 vehicle, then swung his left arm once more, lifting the beast that had bitten his left arm yet again.

After a loud bang, the monster was sent flying once more, but this time, its tongue couldn’t withstand the force and the beast, at least several times larger than Gao Yuan, was hurled away.

Teeth left two deep gashes in Gao Yuan’s arm, the kind where the entire flesh was laid open, but at that moment, Gao Yuan could no longer feel the pain.

Letting go of the slimy monster’s tongue, Gao Yuan punched out with his left fist, then grabbed the neck of a humanoid monster, dodging a bone spike swung toward his head, and once again swung the humanoid monster horizontally.

At that moment, what techniques or routines were there—only the most fundamental ways of exerting force remained.

Overwhelmed by monsters, Gao Yuan found himself squeezed tight; he could only throw away the humanoid beast in his hand, then threw his head back to let a bone spike graze his face.

A wound that curled outward on both sides cut across Gao Yuan’s forehead, over his right eye, across his nose, and down from the corner of his left mouth, splitting his face into two parts.

But fortunately, the wound wasn’t too deep. Though he lost sight in his right eye, it wasn’t going to kill him.

Gao Yuan thrust the stick forward with all his might. The blunt stick nonetheless penetrated the monster’s head.

Hoisting it up, he used the monster to smash behind him, then Gao Yuan turned, yanked the stick out and swung it horizontally again. After a series of cracking sounds, the Thirteen Techniques bent backward at the point where Gao Yuan gripped it.

The stick lasted three seconds, actually a decent performance.

Gao Yuan himself lasted three seconds, which was very, very good indeed.

Gao Yuan never thought he could hold on for more than three seconds.

Exchanging injury for life, for time, for space.

Humanoid monsters were not very difficult to deal with, but when surrounded by them with no space to move, Gao Yuan was out of options.

It wasn’t that no method occurred to him, or that he didn’t need one. Instead, there truly was no method available — he couldn’t break free or push through; there was just no way out.

There was a soft "pfft" sound, but nobody could hear it now. A bone spike had pierced right through the middle of Gao Yuan’s chest just as he drew in a breath.

With a chop of his hand, he severed the spike piercing his chest, grabbed the monster in front of him, and swung it desperately over his shoulder.

Gao Yuan hadn’t yet turned around when his right leg involuntarily knelt down. A bone spike had hit his right leg near the knee, piercing directly into the bone, nearly causing him to collapse to the ground.

"I... damn it!"

Gao Yuan stood up straight again, his hands clutching the creature he held, completed a sweeping strike in a circle, then tossed the monster aside. His left hand grabbed an incoming spike while his right hand seized a human-shaped monster’s arm.

Somehow, he held on for five seconds. As for the wounds on his body, it was better not to think about them — for the moment, he was still alive.

Just then, a humanoid monster on Gao Yuan’s left was suddenly pushed towards him. Gao Yuan jumped into the air for the first time and then he saw an immense giant beast, with both feet already on top of a 59-altered vehicle’s roof.

The giant beast, excessively large, pushed away the humanoid monsters. Upon seeing Gao Yuan, the beast drew a breath.

Gao Yuan landed directly on the head of a humanoid monster, his hands forcefully clearing a space by pushing the closely huddled humanoid monsters, which toppled backward like a row of dominoes, to carve out a place to stand for himself.

Gao Yuan’s feet touched the ground and then he leaped again. As the lizard-like giant opened its mouth towards him, he soared over the column of fire blasting from the lizard’s mouth, landing on the top of its head.

A thick column of fire ignited hundreds of humanoid monsters. They began to screech and flail their arms while Gao Yuan stood on the lizard’s head; then, he stabbed the humanoid monster’s arm straight into the giant beast’s eye.

The giant beast raised its head, shooting the blaze towards the sky. It then began swinging its head, its feet leaving the 59-altered vehicle, bouncing around on the ground trying to shake Gao Yuan off.

The flames sprayed by the giant beast set more humanoid monsters ablaze. Gao Yuan clutched the beast’s scales, and his right hand stabbed the spike even deeper into the giant beast’s brain.

The fire in the giant beast’s mouth finally subsided, its limbs still twitching as it dug four large pits in the ground, but its head lay atop the roof of the 59-altered vehicle, motionless.

This giant beast had saved Gao Yuan because it had cleared space around him with its body. Thus, this fire-breathing giant beast had saved at least two seconds of Gao Yuan’s life.

Standing atop the giant beast’s head, Gao Yuan watched as the gaps were quickly refilled, with humanoid monsters lunging at him. He could no longer suppress a roar.

"Aaahhhhh..."

Gao Yuan’s mouth was still intact, his scream echoing through heaven and earth. Then, as he was about to swing his fist again, the humanoid monsters that had reached him suddenly halted; the circle of humanoid monsters around him stopped crowding forward.

Then, the humanoid monsters near Gao Yuan began to retreat. However, some oddly-shaped giant beasts further away were still advancing, stepping on the humanoid monsters blocking their way as they approached Gao Yuan.

But the most numerous and threatening humanoid monsters had now ceased their assault on Gao Yuan. Under his roar, these creatures exhibited the kind of emotion unique to sentient beings.

Fear, these creatures were filled with fear.
