Chapter 670: Chapter 663 Three Shots

Two armored vehicles were up front, followed by a large pack of monsters.

They seemed human in form, but the reason the Li brothers could swiftly determine it was an enemy attack was because normal humans couldn’t possibly run that fast.

Besides, they were now more than two hundred kilometers away from Djibouti, and no one could run that far, chasing armored vehicles all the way from Djibouti to here.

So, it had to be monsters, and the likelihood of zombies was slim because, although zombies have strong short-distance bursts of speed, this kind of long-distance trek tested endurance, something zombies don’t possess.

The two armored vehicles up front had spotted their convoy, but instead of heading directly towards them, they attempted to bypass on one side, so as to lead the pursuing monsters away as well.

The tank had only run out of fuel, it was not devoid of combat power; being immobilized did not prevent it from serving as a fixed artillery turret, which was not an issue at all.

"Not a large number, roughly around two hundred, dressed in Sanitation Worker uniforms. What’s going on?"

It was odd, because a group of less than two hundred monsters should be easily dealt with by the firepower of the armored vehicles, and yet they seemed quite embarrassed being chased. Moreover, despite noticing a large group of people here, instead of approaching proactively, they attempted to draw the monsters away from the convoy.

"There’s a problem, something’s wrong with these monsters."

Ram put down his binoculars, considered for a moment, and then exclaimed loudly, "Try to make contact and see who’s inside the vehicles."

Ram, after giving his command, noticed another abnormal behavior from the monsters. Based on previous experiences, these monsters, like zombies, would relentlessly pursue their target, completely lacking the ability to discern the importance of their targets. But now, the monsters that were chasing the armored vehicles started to break away from the chase and turn towards Ram and his group.

The intelligence of these monsters was not low, and since they were coming their way, there was no need for restraint; opening fire would suffice.

"Big Dog, test the monsters’ capabilities, fire!"

Grolyov stood atop one of the armored vehicles, operating a 12.7mm heavy machine gun. Upon hearing Ram’s command, he immediately fired a long burst.

At a distance of about one thousand meters, it was somewhat difficult to hit the target, especially since the monsters were incredibly fast.

The bullets fell in front of the monsters, kicking up dust, but a figure swiftly leaped out from the dust cloud, accelerating its charge.

"Missed?"

Ram looked at Grolyov, puzzled, while Grolyov replied with a look of astonishment, "I hit it though."

By their appearance and attire, these were Sanitation Worker soldiers turned into zombies, but based on their reaction and test results, they were not zombies, but rather on the level of monsters.

As Ram and Grolyov were puzzling over this, the monster that was running suddenly lunged forward, fell to the ground, and then remained motionless.

Big Dog roared in astonishment, "Be careful, I hit the target, but its resistance to damage is extremely strong!"

As the distance quickly closed, surpassing a kilometer, Ram finally raised his rifle.

This target was unlike any they had faced before, the difficulty had increased substantially; Ram observed through the scope for a moment, then decided to close the distance further before shooting.

"Fire!"

The tank cannons, the machine guns on the armored vehicles, and the light and heavy machine guns opened fire first, while Ram only needed to wait for any stragglers that managed to break through the defense to mop up the enemies.

Considering the number of monsters, Ram felt the problem was manageable, but reality told him that the nature of combat had changed now.

Zombies and monsters used to charge headlong into gunfire, overwhelming with sheer numbers. All one needed to do was greet them with gunfire where they were most concentrated. But this time was different; the monsters had started to maneuver.

Scattered monsters no longer charged straight ahead, but began to maneuver to both sides.

Zombies can also flank?

Ram was shocked to the extreme by this change.

The machine guns continued to fire, but a most basic tactical flanking maneuver by the monsters significantly reduced the effectiveness of the sweeping gunfire.

Charging forward at extreme speed versus snaking forward at the same extreme speed and then splitting into two wings to encircle from both sides was a huge difference.

The previously concentrated fire suddenly became dispersed, and the monsters spread out over a great distance, so that the sweeping gunfire could only hit individual targets, unable to mow down groups at a time.

Whether it was machine guns or autocannons, it was not possible to continue firing endlessly, and the difficulty of hitting a human target moving at around fifty kilometers per hour with single shots was well known to anyone with a basic knowledge of shooting and combat.

The defensive line was breached in less than two minutes.

A monster wearing camouflage and a bulletproof vest weaved through the hail of bullets and just as it leaped into the air, about to land on the armored vehicle, a crisp gunshot took it down from the sky.

One shot to the head, and Ram yelled, "Contract, contract! Get into the tank..."

Under two hundred monsters, in theory, shouldn’t have been able to break through the fire blockade, but the reality was that at least half of them managed to break through. After the first one made it into the defensive position made up of tanks and armored vehicles, more would soon follow.

Once the monsters broke into the defensive ring and began close-quarter combat with the humans, there was no point in continuing the fight.

Thankfully, tanks and armored vehicles were metal shells, so there was no need to worry about monsters breaking them open even if they reached them.

However, in the center of the defensive circle, Satan and Spark Squad suddenly found themselves in crisis.

They had thought they could quickly eliminate the monsters that charged in, but all the members of Spark Squad and Satan’s were outside.

Another monster charged in, quickly identifying the most vulnerable target.

Ram stood on top of the Type 59’s turret, directing people to take cover in the tank. Although the monster’s attacks were too swift, there was still just enough time to get into an armored vehicle or tank.

Ram turned around, fired again, and the bullet accurately hit the monster’s chest, but its speed did not decrease at all. It even gave up its initial target, Grolyov, and turned to lock onto Ram, who had fired.

With a quick pivot, the monster charged at Ram. Ram only had enough time to swing his gun around and then took another shot, hitting the monster in the head again.

Shooting a monster’s head with a sniper rifle at close range was extremely difficult given their velocity; and aiming for the torso wasn’t ideal either. Not only did these monsters have remarkable resilience, allowing them to keep moving even after being shot, but most of them were also wearing bulletproof vests.

"Watch out!"

Accompanied by Grolyov’s loud shout, Ram drew his pistol with his left hand and fired at a monster that had jumped onto the Type 59.

The pistol hit the monster mid-air, the bullet entering through its eye socket. Ram then slightly dodged, allowing the monster to fall beside his feet.

Holding a rifle in his right hand and a pistol in his left, Ram quickly surveyed his surroundings. Then he holstered his pistol, slung his rifle behind him, and at the same time drew his shotgun.

Then, Ram raised his gun again—and with a thunderous roar, a monster’s face was blown into a sieve.

Three shots exchanged, suitable for both long and close range—this was Ram’s signature skill.
