Way of Overlord-Chapter 511: Once It’s Been Done
Chapter 511: Once It’s Been Done
If there is one regime that at least try to understand and even integrate with these ethic group it would be Shu Han
they have to govern a lot of the ethnic group and managed at least during the time of Zhuge Liang to ease some of the tension.
But after Wei unified China, this short-lived effort was destroyed and then after Wei is usurped by Jin, the exploitation of the minorities become even harsher.
If the one on top would not let them live, then they would rather pick up their weapons and fight for a chance of survival!
When Han people ruled the land of China, minorities always suffers and scapegoated as the ills of the world.
There is cause and effect to everything
Jin fell to Liu Song and historian at that time called it the Sixteen kingdoms of the Five barbarians
The Five Liangs, Four Yans, three Qins, two Zhaos, Cheng-Han and Xia.
There is also many other kingdom that appeared at that time. Ran Wei, Zhai Wei, Chouchi, Duan Qi, Qiao Shu, Huan Chu, Tuyuhun, Western Yan.
The historian Cui Hong that wrote the term Sixteen Kingdoms in the Spring And Autumn Annals of the Sixteen Kingdoms did not include Northern Wei and its predecessor Dai, because the Northern Wei is considered to be the first of the Northern dynasties in the period that followed the Sixteen kingdoms.
History only remember the sixteen kingdoms but who knows and who wrote the stories of the people at that time whether the stories they wrote is true or false.
When it disadvantaged them, the description is scarce, when it is to show their virtue the description is flowery and detailed
History has always been nuanced, a few hundred words in a history book does not point to the truth. It only points to "a" truth.
There is many truths and there is many reason for why certain things happens.
One thing is clear, that it was during this Sixteen kingdoms that the people that the Han once called dog has risen
And they come with a vengeance
But even then the barbarians did not yet have the power to unify China.
Until Genghis Khan appears and conquer the Steppe and laid a foundation for his grandson Kublai Khan to sweep the whole world from north to south, form west to east, the four direction of the world, all trembled under the hooves of the Khan of the Steppe!
Of course, Ayera could not have known all of these. And because she did not know all of this how could she could fathom the thoughts of Aeryon
If she knew, without the context and the knowledge that Aeryon, to her, it might even look like a crazy ambition
After all, who could have imagined the Steppe people would be able to conquer the whole world in horseback. And wherever they go empires would fall.
She did not know what those plans are but she knows Aeryon has always think more about the future
Most tribe leaders that Ayera had met, and even her father only think about the legacy and inheritance o their tribes
Aeryon on the other hand has a different desire and layout.
A national destiny as he put it.
Even though Aeryon did not share many thing with her, he did share a few things with her.
And that is the trend of the world.
He believe that the Yan dynasty is at their last breath
There is Roma in the north, Yindu in the east and Western Zhou in the west but Aeryon always focused on Yan
Ayera did not ask but Aeryon explained it to her
Roma has their own problems and even though they did defeated a few northern tribes in the past, Roma never had the power to ride deep into the Steppe
Even in their golden age, they could never reach the central region of the Steppe.
The steppe is the land of the steppe warriors and no one knows it better than the people of the Steppe.
And to the people of Roma even if they manage to conquer the Steppe, they would not get many things from it.
The Steppe is a harsh place and even if you get it, to govern it is a headache and to extract resources from it hard. Not to mention the logistic challenge of it.
The empire itself is large and there is many more fertile region that is better for their attention
Hence, Aeryon never worries about Roma.
Because even if they attack the Great Steppe, they never would have the interest or ability to conquer the Steppe in full.
As for Yindu in the east, the mountain ranges separated the Great Steppe and the continent of Yindu.
The only route they could take is climbing down the mountain or ride through that narrow path
This is also the reason why the tribes in the East has quite the good relationship and trading agreements with the people of Yindu.
Because both of them could not attack each other.
Yindu would find it hard to attack and get out of the east even if they desire to expand their dominion to the Steppe.
And the same thing could be said for the people of the Steppe.
It is also hard for the Steppe tribes to enter Yindu because of the mountain range.
Even if they could ride through that narrow paths scattered all over the eastern borders, that path is narrow and could easily be blocked.
There is fortress near each narrow path and some are situated so strategically that it had the aid of mountain passes and wavy hills making any attack to the Yindu land very hard
If Aeryon did manage to send people into Yindu, and begins attacking Yindu there is only one path of survival and that is to keep winning and take down the city near the narrow path as fast as possible.
If no they would be attacked on all sides. And that also means that they would get surrounded and once they are surrounded, they are dead.
As for Western Zhou, they did not have the national strength to conquer even one region of the Steppe and their politics itself is divided.
Not to mention, Western Zhou had to also contend with Yan dynasty and Yan dynasty is their target instead of the Steppe.
For the Steppe, they would only take some lands and even if they take lands, they did not dare to station or put their people there because the changing of lands between the tribes of the Steppe and the Western Zhou is frequent.
When Western Zhou is strong they would attack the western border of the Great Steppe and take some lands. When the Western Zhou is weak, the western tribe would ride west and take back that land.
It is like eating chicken rib for the Western Zhou and so, they are mostly focused on Yan dynasty.
The only one worthy of worry is the Yan dynasty
Aeryon worry about Yan dynasty but instead of hating all of Yan dynasty achievement, he knows how to take the good and cut off the bad.
Hence, Aeryon did all kinds of methods to get knowledge from Yan. He would learn from Yan
And it is these engineers he took that are one building all these towers that have the influence of the Yan dynasties
Ayera tries to calm her minds. Each time, she calms her mind, the sword in her heart is getting sharper.
Sharper and sharper the more she come closer to Aeryon residence. But then she focused back on where she are right now.
At the center of this castle grounds, stand a massive central keep crowned with a golden dome. There is a bit of aesthetic of the Roma
This probably come from Mayeux who share the method of engineering of the Roma to the artisans and engineers. Aeryon had also send some of his non-combatant tribesmen to learn from the Yan engineers.
Even though most of these tribesman are unruly and did not think learning engineering is a good thing for the people of the Steppe, the order of the Kan could not be disobeyed.
They learn little but at least in the words of the Kan, it is the first step in the right direction.
Ayera might not understood many of her husband method, but this one is a method she understood.
Aeryon wanted to cultivate his own engineers.
Engineers and artisans of the Steppe. Ayera then look at the dome once again.
The dome is not yet completed. But Ayera believe when this dome is completed, it would be very majestic
The dome would glints when the sun is high up in the center of the sky, its light would be visible from miles across this city, almost like it is showing divine power to the worldly beings
There is the banners of the white wolf , flutters from tall poles across the compound, a point of pride for the warriors of the Brolgadhr tribe.
Ayera once goes to the inner area of the castle and it is richly decorated with far northern states carpets, there is even lacquered woods and golden latticework’s
When it is completed, Aeryon would hold court among treasures of south and north
The desire of Aeryon to leave a legacy is obvious. The only problem of Aeryon is that he has no heir
