Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 166: Visitors?
Chapter 166: Visitors?
Ethan woke up, followed by Elena, as they felt the coldness around the room.
The sudden chill sent a shiver down their spines, and they realised that the temperature had dropped once again.
They were currently sleeping in Grandpa Caldwell’s unit, along with the others, as they had agreed to avoid the hassle of heating each unit.
Although the area was crowded with portable beds set up around the living room, they found comfort in being together.
Elena and Ethan then exchanged worried glances as they embraced each other.
They stayed in the guest room at Grandpa Caldwell’s insistence, believing it would provide Elena and the baby with a good night’s rest without disturbances.
"Wife, the temperature has dropped to -40 degrees Celsius," Ethan said, looking at the thermometer hanging on the wall.
Elena was stunned; the temperature had plunged from -30 to -40, a sudden drop of 10 degrees.
She couldn’t help but sigh, reflecting on how the extreme cold had arrived just a month ago, yet it was already plunging the temperature to such severe levels.
In her past life, the temperature decrease had been gradual, giving people time to adjust and prepare for the changing conditions.
But now, she wondered how many could survive this sudden drop.
"Check on everyone to make sure they’re okay," she replied, her voice steady despite the concern in her eyes.
"I’ll change the heating devices and retrieve more to warm this place back to normal."
"Wife, just stay in bed; it’s so cold. I’ll handle it myself," Ethan suggested, concerned that she might get cold along with the baby.
Elena brushed off his worries, knowing the heating devices were in her [Inventory].
"Don’t worry. I’m already wearing plenty of warm clothes. Just go and check on them."
Ethan then looked at her before stepping outside to check on the others in the living room.
Meanwhile, Elena retrieved additional heating devices and placed them in various locations to help restore the temperature to a comfortable level.
After confirming that everyone was alright and that they had only experienced a sudden chill, they quickly settled onto the sofa once the temperature returned to normal.
They then began discussing the current situation.
"Why does this extreme cold always seem to plummet in the evening?" Grandpa Ford asked.
No one replied, as they were uncertain whether this was intentional or simply a predefined occurrence.
Hearing this, Elena felt a bad premonition. It seemed as though the heavens might have intervened once again.
"Sigh. This sudden drop in temperature definitely caught people off guard," Grandpa Caldwell said.
"The worst part is that they might be frozen without even realising it."
They had already accepted that the world was no longer what it used to be, but what they struggled to adapt to was the sudden change in circumstances that left them feeling helpless.
Elena hoped that humanity would find a way to survive this disaster, which was only the beginning; the real fight had yet to start.
"Alright, we can’t do anything about it anymore. It’s already here. Instead of worrying, we should redouble our preparations. For now, let’s rest. My wife and my baby are tired today," Ethan said, breaking the silence while proudly speaking about his small family.
Everyone was taken aback by Ethan’s sudden show-off.
They looked at his smug face as he held his wife’s hand, helping her back to their room.
Some were even thinking, ’We also have children; there’s no need to show off.’
"Stop staring at my grandson! Everyone should also get some rest. It’s already 2 AM," Grandpa Caldwell said with a proud smirk.
Despite the looming disaster, he found comfort in his family’s presence, which gave him hope.
Additionally, he was eager to welcome the new baby, which motivated him to stay alive and healthy.
Soon, they returned to their portable beds and continued to rest.
Meanwhile, Ethan quickly added more warm quilts to their bed, ensuring that Elena and the baby would be comfortable.
"If you add more quilts, where am I supposed to sleep?" she asked.
"Around here. You can use my arms as a pillow while I hug you and the baby."
"Would that be uncomfortable for you?"
"Not at all. I like it when you’re close to me."
"Alright, as long as you’re happy."
’Baby, you should listen to Dad. Look how he takes care of us.’
Ethan then pulled her into his warm embrace, and soon they both fell asleep peacefully.

When Elena woke up, it was already late morning.
After drinking a cup of well water and freshening up, she stepped outside her room to see how everyone was doing.
The daily exercise session she was supposed to lead with the kids had been cancelled because she had been waking up later these past few days.
As a result, Ethan took over as the new instructor for the kids.
She felt bad for the kids, as Ethan’s training style was a bit hard for them, but she steeled herself, knowing that they needed this training.
"Where is everyone?" she asked, glancing at Grandma Ford, who was busy in the kitchen with Mrs. Benette.
"They are in Paradise doing their tasks. Are you hungry? Let me prepare breakfast for you."
"Well, thank you, Grandma Ford."
While waiting, Elena checked the situation outside from the balcony using a telescope.
The city was now turning into a frozen world. Snow was still falling, but not as severely as the past week.
The snow had turned into ice, and she noticed some corpses were frozen, looking eerie and terrifying.
She averted her gaze, afraid that she would lose her appetite later.
Just then, she felt someone hug her from behind, and she quickly recognised who it was.
"Husband, where have you been?"
"Helping the kids swim in the Eastern Lake. By the way, Erick is way too malnourished; you should ask Aunt Liza to give him a thorough check-up."
"Alright," Elena agreed.
"Have you eaten already?"
"Grandma Ford is currently preparing breakfast for me."
"Then I’ll join you."
They ate their meal while discussing their plans for the day, deciding to open the shop in both buildings A and C.
Afterwards, everyone gathered and left for their designated tasks.
Oslo and Xander would handle Building C, while Ethan and Elena took care of Building A.
Elena then searched for Little Koby and exited to his location.
Upon appearing at Building C, they quickly looked for a suitable spot and opened the Paradise shop.
Soon, a flock of customers arrived to buy supplies, and they busied themselves catering to their request.
Meanwhile, Elena was talking to the customers when Oslo informed her that someone was looking for both her and Ethan.
She raised her brows in thought.
’Who would be looking for us in this extreme weather?’
