Chapter 198: Wedding Day (2)
In one of the rooms on the second floor of Sawyer’s house, they had a space designated for Abigail to do her makeup before the wedding ceremony.
...
An hour before the wedding ceremony started, Abigail began to feel nervous.
She stands alone in the room, but the makeup artist’s words linger in her mind:
"Miss Abigail, you look so stunning in your wedding gown. I can tell even goddesses would be envious and protest to God if they saw you..."
Earlier, she had asked the makeup artist to keep her makeup minimal—just a touch of blush and a swipe of lip gloss to freshen her look. The makeup artist did a fantastic job, giving her a soft, radiant glow.
Her hair was beautifully styled in a low bun, with tiny white flowers tucked into it, adding a delicate, romantic touch. The bun was simple yet elegant, perfectly complementing her natural beauty.
A few days ago, Sawyer had asked her about the kind of wedding gown she wanted. She told him she preferred something casual and comfortable, ideal for their simple and intimate wedding.
Abigail didn’t know who Sawyer had contacted, but he had shown her a few gown options.
Naturally, she picked designs with clean, simple silhouettes, light fabrics, and minimal details—something chic and effortless, perfect for their initial plan to sign only the wedding paper.
As she looked at herself in the mirror, her wedding dress couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a white midi-length gown with a low V-neckline, subtly highlighting her curves while still feeling modest and understated.
After ensuring that her appearance met her expectations, Abigail walked toward the window to observe the preparations in the backyard.
She saw a beautifully decorated tent under the shade of the trees, with a long white table and more than a dozen chairs arranged facing each other.
Several staff members dressed in black and white uniforms were busy setting up. Among them, she spotted Ronan Peters, who was giving instructions to a few team members.
"It’s about time, Abby..." she whispered, feeling nervous.
Abigail wanted to see Sawyer but hadn’t seen him since she entered this room with the makeup stylist and a few staff members. The last time she saw him was when he escorted her to this room and excused himself to handle matters outside.
Sawyer had told her they would sign their marriage certificates in the family room on the first floor at eleven o’clock. Their family and friends were supposed to witness that moment, and afterward, they would have lunch together in the backyard.
However, something felt off. It was already past ten, and none of the family they had invited had arrived.
She glanced at the clock on the wall, noticing that the time seemed to move agonizingly slow: only thirty minutes remained until eleven.
’Did Sawyer intentionally set the guests to arrive exactly at eleven?’ Abigail wondered.
She sighed deeply and returned her attention to the view outside the window.
A soft double knock on the door was suddenly heard, which startled her anxious mind.
Turning toward the sound, her heart raced. "Sawyer?" she whispered, anxious about his reaction to her appearance.
"Uhmm, what?" the person knocking responded, equally whispering.
"Come in," Abigail replied louder while sitting on the sofa and nervously glancing at the door.
To her surprise, it wasn’t Sawyer who entered but two women she had eagerly been waiting for: Hannah and Martha. They both smiled widely as they looked at her.
"Oh my lord, Abigail, you look so beautiful!" Martha gasped in surprise. For a brief moment, she paused, mesmerized by Abigail’s beauty in her simple white wedding gown.
"Abigail, oh dear, I can hardly recognize you! You look so beautiful and graceful, like a goddess. No, you are even prettier than a goddess," Hannah expressed genuinely, clearly taken aback by her daughter-in-law’s appearance. She quickly walked inside and approached Abigail.
When Hannah saw Abigail standing gracefully as she greeted them, she hurriedly took her hand and gently guided her back to her seat.
"Oh dear, take a seat. Don’t tire yourself," Hannah said, leading Abigail to sit again.
"Yes, Abigail... relax and sit down. Let’s chat before the ceremony," Martha said, standing beside Hannah.
Abigail smiled shyly, noticing that Grandma Martha and Sawyer’s mother, Hannah, were visibly enamored by her presence from their blushing cheeks. She returned to her seat and was pleasantly surprised to see them sitting on either side of her.
They continued to admire her from head to toe, making her blush with their overwhelming praise.
Feeling shy, Abigail decided to divert their attention. "Grandma, Aunty, why did you just arrive?" she asked.
Martha and Hannah took a deep breath, annoyance clearly showing in their expressions.
When they didn’t answer her immediately, Abigail sensed something was amiss. She sighed deeply and guessed it was related to Sawyer. She felt tense and wanted to know what had happened.
After a moment, Hannah finally spoke. "I’m still mad at my son. He is too much. He only sent his driver an hour ago, even though we’ve been waiting at his grandfather’s house since eight... he didn’t pick us up earlier!"
Martha nodded in agreement with Hannah’s words.
She also expressed her frustration with Sawyer, "What’s even more annoying is that the car that picked us up had completely tinted windows. We couldn’t see outside, so we had no idea where we were. Is this place still in Solhaven or outside the city? I can’t tell." freewёbnoνel.com
"Mom, I think we are outside the city. You see those large trees surrounding this house, right?"
"Yes, it seems you’re right, Hannah," Martha replied.
"I’m pretty sure of it. We drove for about an hour to get here," Hannah added.
Abigail swallowed silently, envisioning the driver taking them around in circles. She remembered that to get to Sawyer’s grandfather’s house, they only needed a 40-minute drive.
"I heard from Niel that they blocked our GPS, too. That’s why we can’t check the location of this place," Martha continued to complain.
"Sawyer is hiding this place from us. Why did he do that?" Hannah said, looking at Abigail. She felt the need to ask her where this place was located.
