’Well, I was thinking about heading straight to clear the dungeon, but I realized that once I do, it’ll cause a big commotion—like it did back at the dwarf dungeon. If that happens, I won’t be able to come back easily. So I thought I’d explore a bit before leaving. The Elf Empire’s capital which isn’t like the Dwarf City. There’s more to see, so I might find something interesting,’ Renan said, strolling casually through the streets of the Elf city.

*THUD*

Just as Renan was walking, someone bumped into him from behind.

"Ouch," came a voice from behind that was distinctly feminine, soft yet surprised.

"Huh," Renan muttered as he turned around to look at who had bumped into him. There, he saw a young girl clutching her nose, looking like she was in slight pain. Her hair was a soft brown, and poking out from under it were two long elf ears. Her face was that of an average-pretty elf, nothing too extravagant but still pleasant to look at. She wore a gown of earthy brown color, which matched her overall natural tone.

"Are yo...," before Renan could speak, the girl suddenly spoke up herself.

"Ahh I forgot to say sorry! I’m sorry, I was running while looking behind me," she said frantically, bowing up and down repeatedly while continuing to apologize as if her life depended on it.

"It’s okay. I’m really not hurt anyway, so it’s fine. You can stop bowing now," Renan said, waving his hand in front of him to calm her down.

"Ohh really?" the girl asked, finally pausing her frantic bowing.

"Yeah," Renan replied with a light nod.

"You won’t ask me for compensation, right?" she asked, still sounding skeptical.

Renan’s brow twitched slightly at her question. ’Has this girl been getting bullied or something?’ he thought inwardly. ’Why would she think I’d ask for compensation for such a simple bump, that was not even an intentional one?’ Outwardly, though, he replied with a smile, "Do I really look like someone who would ask for compensation for a small bump like this?"

"I don’t know. I’ve never seen your face before," the girl said while still bowing at a full ninety-degree angle.

At her honest, blunt reply, Renan’s brow—which had just stopped twitching—twitched again, and from within his mind, Elaris giggled at the girl’s straightforward behavior.

Renan, hearing Elaris laugh, didn’t respond to her but instead focused on the girl in front of him. "I promise, so just stop already," Renan said again, reassuringly.

The girl, after hearing Renan’s gentle and sincere tone, finally straightened up. For the first time, she looked at Renan’s face properly. "Wow, you are really handsome," she said, her brown eyes sparkling with honest awe.

Renan just shook his head slightly. He found her behavior a bit silly—one moment, she was panicking like she’d done something unforgivable, and the next, she was admiring him like a child seeing something shiny.

"So, what’s your name?" Renan started to ask, but before he could continue, he suddenly heard a sweet voice coming from not too far away, a voice laced with worry and familiarity.

"Thalira, what was I saying? Slow down! Now look, you’ve bumped into someone," came the voice—a sweet, feminine voice that was steadily drawing closer.

Renan, hearing the new voice, turned his eyes toward the direction it was coming from. There, he saw two figures walking toward them. One was an elderly elf woman walking with the support of a wooden stick. But Renan’s focus was not on the elderly woman. His eyes were immediately drawn to the person beside her.

She was wearing a long gown of pure white, the fabric flowing smoothly around her body and adorned with delicate lines like flowing water. Slowly, Renan’s eyes traveled upward from her clothes to her face. And when they did, he paused.

Her face was flawless—nothing short of perfection. Her light blonde hair framed her delicate features, and her light green eyes that shimmered like a jade. Some might have even mistaken her for a goddess, and they wouldn’t have been wrong.

But then...

The moment Renan’s eyes locked with hers, a strange sensation coursed through his body. The hairs on the back of his neck stood straight up, and his heartbeat quickened—not from fear, not exactly. It was more like this woman could see through him, like she knew everything about him. Even things he himself didn’t yet know. That was the overwhelming feeling he got just from meeting her gaze.

"Ohh, Princess! I’m sorry. I got too excited and while running, I looked behind to see how far back you were—and while doing that, I bumped into this handsome man!" Thalira said brightly, pointing directly at Renan with an innocent smile.

"Ohh? Who?" the elf princess said, finally turning her face to the side to look at the man her friend had bumped into.

The moment her eyes landed on Renan, they sparkled slightly, and a bright smile formed on her lips. "Oh wow, you’re really handsome. But what is this gentleman’s name?" she asked, turning to Thalira for the answer.

Thalira, at the question, just tilted her head like a clueless child.

The elf princess, seeing her friend’s confused expression, shook her head in resignation, clearly understanding that her silly friend hadn’t even asked for the man’s name. She was just about to speak up when she heard him say,

"It’s Renan. My name is Renan. And please excuse me, Princess—I have something important to attend to," he said quickly, not even waiting for a response before vanishing from sight.

*SWISH*

"Hmm... that human child is quite strong," the elderly elf woman said beside the princess.

The elf princess, who had watched Renan disappear, let a brief look of sadness cross her face. But just as quickly as it appeared, it disappeared. Her face brightened with a warm smile. "Yeah, he is really strong," she said softly before turning to Thalira.

"Well, let’s not wait around. Let’s go to that bakery we were talking about. They might run out of what we want if we’re late," she said with a smile.

"Oh right, we should hurry up!" Thalira agreed, and the three of them began walking toward their destination.

Meanwhile, Renan, who had reappeared far from the scene, was now walking toward the gate with a solemn expression.

’Elaris, what was that?’ Renan asked mentally, knowing she had seen everything and also saw his reaction.

Elaris, silent until now, finally spoke. Her tone was serious and composed.

’Renan, just focus on clearing the Elf Dungeon first. You’ll understand everything afterward.’

Renan frowned slightly at her cryptic response. But then the frown faded, and he simply nodded.

’Alright,’ he said, continuing toward the city gate with calm resolve.
