Magus Bloodlines.-Chapter 58: Counter Attack Begins.
Chapter 58 - Counter Attack Begins.
Kayla Lyons danced her way through the battlefield. By the time she realized what was going on, soldiers came flooding through the hallway where she was currently walking. Without any warning they opened fire and launched magical attacks at the same time. She relied on her enhanced reflexes as she danced and dodged most of the enemy assault. Some stray fire blasts caught her on her shoulder as she tried to avoid the bulk of it.
She cursed and gritted her teeth as the surrounding students either ran the opposite way seeking shelter and relative safety, or they were lying dead on the hallway floor. Screamed filled her ears as the students ran every which way. One of the students ran forward, covered in stone like armor. Bullets and fire blasts bounced off him as he ran forward. He slammed his hands on the ground and a thick stone wall erupted from the ground. It filled the hallway, floor to ceiling as he cut off the attackers from the students. Curses came from the other side of the stone wall as they fired off magical attacks over and over, trying to break it down.
"Stephanie! The barrier is up, evacuate the injured students!" The boy called out to a female student that came running back. She was covered in thick amor made of swirling flames. Her armor appeared to be alive as it moved around her body, the flames licking the air as she moved. Her short blonde hair was pulled back from her face with a piece of cloth.
Stephanie grimaced as she led a group of other students over to gather the ones off the ground that were still breathing. "Bradley, put up a second barrier to stall for more time," Stephanie instructed as she walked over to where Kayla is.
"Hey, Daedalus student. Either help out or find a place to hide," Stephanie called out as she walked over. She didn't know who she was, but the way she moved and danced around the incoming attacks made Stephanie suspect she had a lot of skill.
Kayla smirked at the petite blonde girl. "The name is Kayla Lyons, first year student from Daedalus," she informed her. "Baddest woman around. But thanks for the save, not that I needed it or anything," she said dismissively as she rubbed and stretched her shoulder where she could feel her skin tighten from the slight burn she got trying to dodge the incoming fire strikes.
"Save the bragging for when we survive this mess," Stephanie said as she grabbed Kayla by the hand and lead her to join the other students as they retreated down the hallway. "Professor Okeeba, hallway secured, there were some casualties before we got here. But we have some survivors, falling back now," Stephanie called into her headset as they withdrew from the area while the one known as Bradley erected another stone wall after the first one. Explosive impacts could be heard as the enemy forces attempted to break through the defensive barriers.
"Copy that. Fall back to section Charlie with the survivors. Throw up as many defensive measures to stall for time until the security forces and staff can put the enemy down. Defend yourselves and keep your head on a swivel Stephenie. Okeeba out," Professor Okeeba instructed the third-year student.
"Copy that, Stephanie out," Stephanie responded as she relayed their new orders from Professor Okeeba. "Will you join us?" Stephanie asked Kayla. She had a feeling the girl was stronger than she looked.
"Obviously. But lets get one thing straight. I'm not joining your band of merry men. These fools think they can kill me, they must be taught how wrong their line of thinking is. No one kills an alpha Lyon pack member," Kayla said with venom in her tone. Her eyes glowed a bright red in response to her anger and hatred at the thought of these men storming and killing everyone around them. Sure, she couldn't stand the weak. They were pathetic and often moped around crying about the injustice of life. But she did not tolerate killing them simply to kill them. That was just cruel and set her anger off on untold of levels.
Stephanie scoffed at the challenge in the woman's voice. "Call it what you want, the name of the game is survival until we can slaughter them all," Stephanie said. The normal easy going, bubbly student president for the third years was gone. In her place was someone full of rage and indignation at the current state of events. This was the Stephanie that ruled the third-year students with an iron fist. Not the Stephanie that greeted all first-year students with a bright and cheery face and personality.
Kayla smirked as she brought up the rear of the group with Stephanie and Bradley. "I like the way you think short stuff," Kayla said as she glanced around a corner and saw movement at the other end. Men in black uniforms came storming their way, guns firing and magical attacks flying their way. Kayla cursed as she slammed her hands down on the ground and threw up another stone wall blocking their access. "These guys are like cockroaches. They are everywhere," she complained as Bradley and Stephanie ran past her and guided the other students towards one of the secret safe rooms. freёnovelkiss.com
After the first attack, Principal Shepard worked with engineers to build multiple safe rooms in every building of the campus. Each building had multiple saferooms installed on the ground floor. They were accessed by going into certain rooms and taking the small elevators down to the safe room thirty feet underground. The safe rooms were comprised of composite metal alloy and hardened stone around them. Nothing short of a missile or anti-tank round will be able to punch through. Once the elevator is at the panic room, they can lock it down with a few simple controls so enemy forces cannot use it to attack those inside. Rather simple in design, but highly effective in saving lives.
It was one of these safe rooms that Stephanie was leading the group too. They weren't far off now. Few more hallways to pass and they'd be at the designated safe zone. "Bradley, to the front, guide the rest to the safe room!" Stephanie called out. Bradley grunted, accepting his orders as he led lept to the front and lead the way. As a precaution he threw up stone barriers at every hallway they crossed to prevent any attacks from hurting their wounded students.
They arrived at the classroom that contained the hidden entrance Bradley took the lead as he cleared the room. He moved furniture aside and input the code he received from Stephanie into the hidden panel in the floor. A sleek metal elevator rose from the floor and the doors opened with a quiet hiss. "Alright, fall in everyone. Get the wounded inside," Bradley instructed as he kept an ear out for anything nearby. Right now, everything around them was somewhat quiet. But he could hear the explosions farther away to signal the battle was still on going. Once everyone was in the elevator, he input the code and sent them down into the safe room.
The only one's that remained topside were Stephanie, Bradley and Kayla. "Alright. Now we need to move on to the next quadrant and check for more survivors," Stephanie called out as she peaked out of the door to the room. She was double checking the hallway to make sure it was clear of enemy forces.
Kayla smirked as she walked out nonchalantly into the hallway. "Save your orders for someone who cares shorty. I'm going to find my brother, the rest of you are on your own," Kayla said as she walked away in the opposite direction. She was not going to baby sit these kids when her own brother is still in the infirmary. All other lives were second place after her twin.
"Hey, come back here!" Bradley called out as he watched the student from Daedalus turn and go off on her own, running through the halls. She only responded by flipping him off over her shoulder as she turned a corner and was gone.
Kayla shifted fully into her golden were-lion form as she pushed her muscles to run faster through the maze-like hallways. She was focused on finding her twin and protecting him while he was injured. She rounded another corner and saw some more gunmen running in front of her. Their backs were facing her and she grinned in delight.
She launched herself forward, claws extended with blades made of flame using her mana. The first of the five men screamed out in pain as she plunged her flame claws through the man's back, the blades sticking out of his chest. Blood poured out from his wound as he chocked and struggled. She ripped her claws out of the man and swung to the side, catching the second man with a slash across their throat. The man grabbed his throat as he struggled to breathe. Dark red blood poured out from between his fingers as he crumpled to the ground.
By this time the other three became aware of an enemy in their midst as they raised their rifles and opened fire on the were-lion. Kayla laughed as she danced around them. The gunfire easily dodged with her reflexes and speed. She used her tail to grab the arm of the third gunman and plunged her claws through his chest, killing him on the spot. His blood sprayed out of the wound and splattered her clothing.
"Is this seriously all you guys have?" Kayla asked in delight as she jumped through the air and released a stream of fire that engulfed the fourth and final man as he tried to run away, the flames burning his clothing and skin alike. The smell was putrid to her enhanced sense of smell. Burned flesh, hair and clothing was pungent in the air as the man died a slow painful death.
She let out a ferocious roar. Victory was hers. From what she understood, she was near the infirmary now. She had to find her brother and fast.
