Chapter 44: SUPPORT SYSTEM

SOHEE DIDN’T expect that his torn earlobe would need a minor surgery.

Minor, but still a surgery nonetheless.

The surgery was completed after less than an hour. Firstly, the torn earlobe was cleansed with disinfectant, then the doctor removed the skin that lines the tear, eliminated the surplus tissue, and then stitched his earlobe back together again.

Lastly, a sterile bandage was applied to the treated area.

That was how simple the surgery was.

So, why am I admitted to a VIP Room in the country’s most expensive hospital?

Sohee couldn’t complain, though.

After all, that VIP Room was like a hotel suite.

"Hyung, the doctor said your ear is fine now. But you’ll experience minor discomfort, so we have to be careful from now on to minimize the chances of any surgical complications," Kim Heedo, who was sitting on the chair next to the bed, explained. The brat even had his arms crossed over his chest as if he was trying to appear intimidating. "The doctor said your earlobe must remain bandaged for three days, and it can’t be exposed to water during that period. You also can’t put your earlobe to any form of stress or strain— such as resting in bed on the side of the treated area."

Sohee flinched. "That would be difficult."

"I know," Kim Heedo said, sighing while shaking his head. "Hyung sleeps on your side, after all."

"And how did you know Sohee’s favorite sleeping position, son?"

Ahem.

Sohee blushed because of President Kim Nari’s teasing.

Even Kim Heedo blushed.

I didn’t know my mother-in-law could be this playful since she looks serious most of the time.

"I’m kidding— you don’t have to answer," President Kim Nari said. She said she was joking, but her face remained as cold as ever. However, there was warmth in her eyes while gazing at Sohee and Kim Heedo. "I have no intention of hearing about my sons’ private affairs."

Kim Heedo pouted, acting like a big baby around his mother. "And I have no intention of sharing my private affairs either, Eomma."

To be honest, Sohee didn’t care about Kim Heedo’s whining.

He was only focused on one thing.

Mother-in-law said ’sons,’ so that means she also called me his son, right?

Sohee knew that President Kim Nari might not really mean that, or perhaps she was just playing the role of a good mother-in-law to earn his favor.

But he didn’t mind.

I want to play along as long as they treat me as a part of their family. Even if this is temporary— even if this relationship isn’t genuine— I’ll still cherish them as the family I never had.

"Sohee-ya, the doctor said your stitches will be removed in ten days," President Kim Nari said. "I’ll take a day off then and accompany you."

"Oh, no, Mother-in-law. You don’t have to do that since I know how busy you are," Sohee said shyly, shaking his head while waving his hands. "I can go alone."

"Why would Hyung go alone when I’m here?" Kim Heedo asked in disbelief. "Hyung got hurt because of my "stalker." I know I’m a jerk, but I’m not heartless to let you go to the hospital to have your stitches removed, Hyung."

"Okay, no need to be upset," Sohee said, confused as to why Kim Heedo was having such a strong reaction. "If you want to take responsibility for what happened to me, then fine. I’ll let you do it."

For some reason, Kim Heedo still didn’t look satisfied.

"How about you stay with Sohee in the meantime, son?" President Kim Nari suggested. "Make sure that Sohee won’t stress or strain his earlobe."

Aigoo.

Sohee wanted to say that there was no need for that, but he couldn’t really refuse his mother-in-law’s suggestion.

Moreover...

"That sounds like a good idea, Eomma."

For real?

Sohee raised an eyebrow at Kim Heedo.

Is this brat possessed?

"What?" Kim Heedo complained lightly. "Everyone already knows we’re married anyway."

"I didn’t say anything, though?"

"Hyung, you have expressive eyes. I can tell you just insulted me in your head."

"You’re overthinking, dude."

"Talk about your new living arrangements," President Kim Nari said, standing up. "I have to take this call."

Sohee smiled and nodded. "Yes, Mother-in-law."

"Your grandfather and father-in-law are very worried about you, Sohee-ya. If they weren’t having an important business deal in New York, they would have flown home right away."

Sohee wanted to believe that.

I got a call from Chairman Kim and Father-in-law earlier, and they sounded worried and angry that I got hurt.

It was awkward, but he wanted to believe that the two gentlemen really cared about him.

"The twins will be here later," President Kim Nari said. "They’ll skip their night class to visit you, Sohee-ya."

Aww.

Now that’s touching.

After saying that, President Kim Nari left the room.

And now...

"Hyung, the doctor said you can re-pierce your earlobe after three or four months. Apparently, that’s how long it will take for your ear to completely heal."

"Oh," Sohee said, touching his right ear. "Should I put the earring in my right ear in the meantime?"

Kim Heedo fell silent for a moment. "We should just get a proper pair of wedding rings, Hyung."

"Huh?"

"We only got matching earrings since we wanted to hide our marriage, but we have no reason to do that anymore."

Oh, that made sense.

"Alright. A wedding ring that fits well around my finger will also be harder to snatch than a necklace or a bracelet," Sohee said while nodding. "The culprit might have to cut my finger first if they want to steal my wedding ring."

"There won’t be a next time, Hyung— we already caught the culprits."

"Ah, right. What happened to them?"

Kim Heedo suddenly smiled as if he were the boss of an evil organization. "Hyung, do you want to play chaebol again?"

"Hell, yeah," Sohee said, grinning. "What are we going to do?"

"WAIT, you’re going with us?" Sohee asked Kim Haewon and Kim Hanhae— Kim Heedo’s twin siblings. "Is it something that kids should see?"

To be fair, he still didn’t know what they were going to do to Lim Jinwook and Ho Changmin.

Kim Heedo and his friends are good kids, so they won’t torture the two, right?

After all, Lim Jinwook was still a chaebol like Kim Heedo.

"Oppa, we’re not kids anymore," Kim Haewon said, linking arms with Sohee. "And it’s not like this is the first time we get to witness something like this."

"The hyungs did something worse to Sera Noona’s bullies before," Kim Hanhae said, and then he gently slapped his mouth. "I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry, Sohee Hyung-nim. I can’t tell you about it."

Ah, was it supposed to be a secret?

"It’s alright, Hanhae-ya. I’m not that curious about Hong Sera’s past anyway, so I won’t ask you to explain," Sohee said nonchalantly. "Plus, I’m more excited to play chaebol than to hear a dongsaeng’s past she probably doesn’t want me to know."

"Then we should go, Hyung," Kim Heedo said, smirking. "We can’t have our esteemed guests waiting." free𝑤ebnovel.com

What a devilishly handsome brat.
