Chapter 40: Rebuilding the Blood Hall

The first thing that Damon did after logging back into the game was check his health. He was now at 80%, which meant a single Shadowstep had cost him 20% of his health. A steep price!

But useful nonetheless.

He was currently standing outside the Twilight Hollows dungeon portal. He wanted to enter the dungeon again and farm for more shadow element skills but he wouldn’t be able to enter this dungeon again for the next 24 hours.

There was no point in standing here and wasting all that time. Damon quickly began to make his move. On the way he saw some beasts but he did not engage them. His test for how long he could last without drinking blood was still ongoing.

Damon felt a slight bloodthirst on his way but not enough to make him stop and feed.

Also, there was something else he had planned. For that, perhaps it was better to be as much of a monster as he possibly could.

He picked up pace and returned back to the starting town as he quickly as he could. There, outside the little town was the familiar deserted well. Up ahead the starting zone was as chaotic as ever, but no one noticed Damon as he silently slipped into the well with a Shadowstep.

He landed at the bottom of the well with a lot more grace and elegance this time around. Surprisingly the secret door opened on its own and Varnyx the Hollow was standing in front of him.

"Greetings, blood initiate. I am impressed by your growth."

Damon raised a brow. He had expected a random vampire NPC. Varnyx was a high-tier NPC and meeting him like this, twice in a row was truly surprising.

"Thank you, Sir Varnyx." Damon nodded. The vampire started walking through the long tunnel and Damon quickly followed him. He had come here for another reason but if his guess was correct, then he might be on the cusp of a special quest.

Varnyx soon reached the end of the tunnel and when he turned around the corner, Damon’s suspicions were proved to be correct. The vampire race hall was not as how it should be. It was barely developed and there was nobody around.

"Sigh." Varnyx let out an exhausted breath.

"I know. The hall looks desolate and downtrodden. Once upon a time our hall used to be a beacon of fear and reverence," Varnyx said, his voice heavy with old sorrow. "Once, our kin ruled entire regions, shaping empires from the shadows. Now..." He gestured to the crumbling stone walls and the moss creeping over ancient, cracked banners. "This is all that remains."

Varnyx turned to Damon, his gaze sharp and appraising. "You have the blood. You have the hunger. More importantly... you have the will." The old vampire’s lips curled into a thin smile. "Would you like to change this?"

A notification appeared in front of Damon:

[Quest: Rebuilding the Blood Hall] frёewebnoѵēl.com

The Vampire Race Hall lies in ruins. Do you wish to contribute towards its restoration and become its founding pillar?

Objective: Pledge yourself to the Blood Hall. Donate mana stones, and wealth to aid in its reconstruction.

Reward: Reputation Points

[Ding! Do you accept?]

[Yes] [No]

Damon’s eyes went wide. A pay to win quest for earning reputation? Unbelievable! Quests like these were extremely rare in the game. Right now any player could use outside currency to buy in-game gold coins. This being the case, quests like these were extremely easy for the rich.

Of course, they were also easy for cheats like him. Even if it was thousands of gold coins, Damon would contribute everything in a heart beat. Anything was better than the dull and drab grind for reputation points.

Also, he had a feeling that this was not a simple single quest. Just wealth and mana stones were not enough to rebuild a hall. There was definitely more to this.

"Yes, I will do my best to help you, Sir Varnyx. There is nothing more I would love than to see our vampire hall in all

its former glory," Damon said, placing a fist lightly over his heart in a show of solemnity.

For a split second, he thought he saw the ghost of pride flicker across Varnyx’s hollowed features. The elder vampire nodded approvingly.

"Good. Your willingness has been recorded by the Blood Oath," Varnyx said, raising his staff. A crimson rune flared into existence above Damon’s head before silently sinking into his body.

[Ding! You have pledged yourself to the Vampire Blood Hall! Reputation tracking unlocked. Special quests and rewards tied to the Hall will now become available based on your contribution.]

Varnyx’s voice deepened slightly, becoming almost ritualistic. "The Blood Court does not forget. Every stone you lay, every coin you offer, every battle you fight for our cause—shall be remembered."

Then, as if the moment of ceremony had passed, the ancient vampire turned briskly and gestured toward the cracked altar at the center of the hall. It was surrounded by what looked like broken treasure vaults and collapsed summoning circles.

"You may begin by offering wealth and power to the Heartstone," Varnyx instructed. "As you contribute, the Blood Hall will slowly awaken. And you... you shall rise with it."

A new system panel blinked into existence:

[Blood Hall Restoration Panel]

Contributions:

Gold Coins: 0/10,000

Mana Stones: 0/500

Elite Mana Cores: 0/100

Current Status: Crumbling Ruins (Tier 0)

Next Stage: Shattered Sanctuary (Tier 1)

Top Contributors may receive Noble Titles within the Vampire Race.

Damon’s heart thudded in his chest. 10000 gold coins? 500 mana cores? 100 elite mana cores? These were insane numbers. He was supposed to fullfill this all on his own? Well, he could if he tried but this wasn’t a reasonable thing to ask of a player.

Then it struck him. Anyone who became a vampire around now could probably contribute to this restoration. So this was a kind of collective race quest.

And if he alone managed to finish a collective race quest? Just how big the rewards were going to be?
