Tangled Hearts - The Alpha's Baby Mama-Chapter 25: They are mine...
Chapter 25: They are mine...
Xavier POV
"There you are, Alpha," Theo said cheerfully, I’ve been looking for you all over the place. There are some documents which need your approval,".
I shook my head as if to clear the thoughts that filled it. Snippets of Olivia’s accusations kept coming back to me. After I lost my memory, I relied on others to tell me who I truly was to everyone back then.
Lucius had said that I wasn’t exactly the best of persons back then, but I could make up for all of my shortcomings now and I wished more than anything that I knew who I truly was.
"Good news," Theo exclaimed excitedly. "The arms dealer called us this morning and said that they’re ready to sign the deal with us, just like other packs. Not only that, but we’ll also be given premium access to newly produced firearms before they become available in the market!" Isn’t it incredible, Alpha?".
"What kind of person was I, Theo?" I asked him, twisting to face him.
Worry flickered in his eyes and for a minute, I thought he wouldn’t say anything, but he smiled and said playfully. "You were a good leader,".
"That isn’t what I am asking, Theo," I sighed "I know you’re afraid of hurting my feelings or something else but I need to know and I can’t ask Lucius because he won’t give the kind of reply I want. I just need you to tell me, even if it’s a half-truth. Please?"
"Fine," he sighed "I’ll try,".
"Olivia," I swallowed hard, "Did she used to come here in the past or did we meet in a way or something? You know that feeling you get when you’ve known someone for the longest time? That’s how I feel about her. So, please... tell me,".
His gaze became hooded, and I noticed he couldn’t meet my gaze. Confirming my suspicion that this wasn’t the first time I was meeting Olivia.
"I wouldn’t know, Alpha," he gave me a placating smile. "I didn’t always work with you,".
"I know that you took over this position from your dad, but did he mention something strange to you or maybe you heard something?"
"No," he shook his head again, still avoiding my gaze. "Like everyone, this is the first time I’m meeting Miss Olivia,".
"But there’s got to be something," I insisted, watching him closely. "You wouldn’t lie to me, will you?"
"That’s enough, Alpha," Lucius said suddenly. He was standing at the doorway a blank expression on his face. "We have more problems on our hands than that,".
"Will it kill you, any of you, if I know the truth?" I hissed, "There’s something you all are hiding,".
"You need to come with me now, Alpha. The Leader of the Werefox clan just arrived. They’re in the waiting room and he doesn’t look pleased,".
"Shit," Theo bolted to his feet, "That spells trouble if their leader came themselves. What if they’re planning to attack? Our soldiers are not ready to fight yet,".
I ran a hand through my hair, wishing things would just go back to when I was mute and Lucius took care of everything. This morning, while Noah and I visited the prison where the Foxes were kept, we noticed that they had all died.
And we are ruling suicide because there was no evidence to show that they were attacked.
"Did you try to find out who they were?" I asked, rising to my feet.
"The man and the woman who seemed like the leaders were the leaders’ children, albeit from different mothers. I think that’s the reason he came here himself. He’s requesting an audience with you and...".
Lucius stopped because Maeve and Vina suddenly ran into the room. Vina was hot on Maeve’s trail, who immediately ran to me and grabbed my leg then stared at me with eyes glinting in mischief.
"Save me from my sister, Alpha," she said.
Her smile was infectious. I saw myself smiling as I reached for her and scooped her into my arms, saving her from Vina, who would have caught her at the dying minute.
"Give me back my candy this instance," Vina said tearfully, stretching her hand to her sister. "You know how important that candy is to me,".
"You’re supposed to share, Vina. We’re twins," Maeve retorted.
"I know and I will, but that’s special to me," Vina cried. "Please give it back,".
"For moon’s sake Vina," Maeve sighed, "It’s from a guy, there’s nothing special about it,".
"From a guy?" I turned to Maeve. "What’s going on?"
"This morning while Noah took us out on a stroll and we stopped at the pack centre to talk to some people, a guy walked up to Vina and said she’s beautiful. Then he hands her a caramel candy and pats her head. She won’t lick the candy and won’t share it with me either. That doesn’t sound fair, does it?"
"Okay," I chuckled under my breath, feeling the eyes of Lucius and Theo on me. I knew they were silently urging me that we had urgent business, but I couldn’t just let the girls go like that.
"Where is the candy?" I asked Maeve.
Reluctantly, she produced it and handed it to me. I stretched my hand and gave it to Vina. Then knelt in front of her, dropping Maeve to the ground too.
"Do you want to share the candy with your sister?" I asked.
"No," she shook her head. "The candy is special to me and I could see the sincerity in the eyes of the person who gave it to me. Maeve doesn’t care about anyone except herself,".
"That’s not true," Maeve fired back, "And aren’t you too young to be chasing her boys? Wait until I tell Mom,".
"I like him," Vina said vehemently, glaring at her sister. "What do you know about love? You’re so cold and would fight with anyone who tries to become friends with you,".
"That’s because a lot of people are boring and I don’t want to spend my time dealing with boring people, including you,".
"Don’t you dare...".
"That’s enough, girls," I interrupted them. "You shouldn’t fight, you are sisters,".
"Then can you tell Maeve to stop being mean to me?" Vina burst into tears. "She wants me to hate people just the way she does, but I can’t do that,".
"Hey, come here," I said gently, drawing her into my arms, feeling a glowing warmth that gave me peace at the touch. "Everything will be alright,".
My eyes strayed to Lucius, who had been watching everything quietly, and he mouthed "The Foxes,".
Damn Foxes! I sighed and kept patting Vina, who was hugging me now.
"Dear, I need to go now and...".
The words had barely left my lips when Maeve burst into tears and fell on my body. I couldn’t tell if it was the twin effect or because she wanted my attention, but my arms were full with two crying girls and I had not the slightest idea of what to do.
I gave Lucius a pleading gaze and for a moment; I thought I saw a satisfied smirk on his face before he murmured something about going to get their mothers. Alpha Theo had drawn closer now and was trying to entice the girls by suggesting snack after snack that he thought they’d like, but they kept crying.
Suddenly, my nose twitched and for the first time in three years, I picked up a horrid stench that seemed to fill the room, followed by an ominous aura. While I was wondering what was going on, a man about 5’7 with red hair sauntered into the room with both hands behind his back, followed by a throng of other people. Their faces didn’t look familiar.
When they entered, I saw their eyes scanning the room before they finally rested on me.
"Who are you?" Theo recovered first and came to stand in front of me, creating a barrier between me and the man.
"They’re the ones in the waiting room, Alpha," Lucius said as he entered the room. "I told you to wait that the Alpha will not be but a minute,".
"Asking a Fox to wait is like asking us not to hunt in packs... it’s impossible, Beta," the short man said and turned to Theo "Since we’re here Alpha... why don’t we talk,".
He brushed past Theo and sat on the settee. I could feel my blood boiling with anger at the intrusion. The girls had stopped crying and were watching the scene curiously, too.
Straightening, I passed the girls to Lucius and went to stand in front of the man, pinning him with my gaze.
"I am Alpha Xavier,".
"Oh," the man said flippantly, giving Theo a once over, "You Wolves are so damn tall for no reason. I would have sworn that was the Alpha. Since you’re here, sit down. We have a lot of things to talk about,".
"That should be my line," I said coldly. "This is my personal space. Let my beta escort you back to the waiting room. I’ll join you shortly,".
The man looked past my shoulders as his gaze rested on Maeve and Vina in Lucius’s arms, totally ignoring me.
"Ah, what lovely daughters you have and striking resemblance to you, too. The last I heard of you; you were mourning your dead wife. Didn’t know you remarried and already have children,".
"They are mine," Noah said authoritatively as he strolled into the room, wearing a fierce expression. When he reached us, he turned to Lucius... "Take the girls to their mother,". Then he turned back to the short man, who had gone red with fear at Noah’s voice.
"L–Lycan Noah..." he stuttered.
"Hello, Kai, long time to see," Noah sneered.
