The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 210: He won’t
Chapter 210: He won’t
Meanwhile...
"What now?" Kenzo glanced at the front passenger seat because Fil had been rummaging through her bag for minutes now. "Is there something wrong? Did you forget our papers?"
Fil looked at him in dismay. "I left my phone."
"Huh?"
"My phone!" Fil frowned. "I forgot it on the desk."
"Should we go back? We’re not that far yet."
Fil pondered about it and gazed at the road. "This is the same route to my place. Let’s just go there."
"And your phone?"
"It’s an extra one, but we’re already late. So, let’s just drop by my place. Saves us more time."
"You got two phones?" Kenzo scrunched up his nose. "What’s the other one for?"
"For my future hubby."
This time, Kenzo cast her a quick, disdainful look. "Your boyfriend. Is he a good man, huh?"
"Of course!"
"Are you sure?!" he intoned. "You just met him after a long relationship! So, are you one hundred percent sure?!"
"Kenzo, do you think I’m using him just because I’m bored?" Fil hissed. "For your information, if I want to use someone, I’d use Marcus and work him to the bones. Moreover, do you think I’d want to marry him if I’m joking?"
Kenzo gave her another suspicious look. "Is he a good person?"
"Yep."
"I’m looking for an answer that needs you to be fair, alright? Because if you judge him with your heart involved, then it’s not credible. See what happened to Vincent?"
"I know, and I’m not judging him just because I’m marrying him."
"Then, is he a good person? How does he treat the people around him?"
Fil rubbed her chin as she pondered about how Jackson treated other people. Now that she thought about it, Jackson was mostly mean to those people who called him friends. But for the people who worked for him, he was treating them with respect.
"He’s respectful, but also very direct," she answered with a smile. "Sometimes, he would say all the hurtful things that can make one cry. But at the same time, he does it with a pure intention."
Kenzo rocked his head in understanding. "Is that so? Sounds like a decent man." He cleared his throat, still not done with his questioning. "Does your family know?"
"I wouldn’t be engaged if they didn’t."
"You told them?"
"He asked for their permission beforehand." A soft smile dominated her face at the thought of Jackson and her family. "So, they knew what was coming."
"Do they like him?"
Fil fixed her eyes on his side profile, smiling. "Elijah is in love with him. My mom thinks of him as her youngest son, and my dad thought he found himself the son he always wished to have. He treats them with love and respect and always takes them into consideration, not because he wants to impress them, but because he likes them individually."
"They like him because of who he is and not because I like him," she continued, getting comforted just by talking about Jackson. "You know, Ken, when I found out about Vincent and Marianne’s affair, I thought I was going to die. It hurt so much that it filled me with rage. I couldn’t fathom Vincent could do that to me, but then, after some time, I realized it’s not that I didn’t expect it to happen."
"I overlooked a ton load of red flags Vincent was waving right in front of me. He never bonded with my family. Although he always kept himself polite in front of them, I’ve always known his disdain every time my mother prepared him some of her homemade dishes." Bitter to recall, but this was something Fil wanted Kenzo to understand as her means of reassurance to her dearest friend. "I turned a blind eye to everything just because I want to see what I want to see."
She paused as her eyes softened with affection. "But this man... even if I was blind, he’d make sure that I would see how imperfect he was by parading it right in front of me. He does things without me asking. I don’t need to beg him for attention, for love, for everything. He would give everything without asking anything in return."
"Compared to my relationship with Vincent, three months is short. But honestly, I’d rather love the right one too fast than love the wrong one for too long." Her face brightened up as she lifted her gaze at him. "He made me want to give love another chance, Ken. He’s a lot of things, but one thing I’m sure of is that he won’t do anything on purpose that will hurt me."
Kenzo drove slowly as he listened to everything about her mystery boyfriend. He only glanced at her from time to time, but he had seen what he wanted to see. That was... she was happy.
"Are you really saying that without your feelings involved?" he asked.
"Yes." Fil nodded. "I’m not letting others hurt me, just like how Vincent did."
"Then... I’m glad to hear that you’re with someone who truly and deeply cares for you."
"Thank you, Ken." She smiled appreciatively. "I know you were just concerned because of the situation."
"Say, what if he turns out to be different once the honeymoon phase is over?"
"He won’t."
"Huh?" Kenzo furrowed his brows and cast her a quick look. "It’s just a what if —"
"He won’t," she repeated, this time with a little assertion.
"How are you so sure of that?"
"Because I wouldn’t be engaged to him if I still have those questions in my head." Fil leaned back comfortably. "I used to ask that same question back then until I don’t anymore."
Kenzo kept his eyes on the road and sighed. He rocked his head in understanding before a subtle yet genuine smile turned up on his face. When he saw that the stoplight ahead was going red, he slowed down and looked at her.
"I’m happy for you, Fil. And I mean that."
Fil nodded. "I know you are, but thanks..." she trailed off as she caught something from her peripheral. When she looked ahead, her eyes dilated as she blurted out. "Ken, watch out!"
