The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 278: Can’t help you then
Chapter 278: Can’t help you then
After one hour, Felix was feeling sleepy. Hence, Fil bid him farewell and Raul assisted her out.
The Hale Family was no longer outside, making her wonder what happened.
Sensing her curiosity, Raul explained. "They were causing too much noise and disturbing other patients, so the hospital had to escort them out."
"Oh." Fil’s lips formed an o-shape, nodding in understanding.
If this was before, the hospital would try their best to appease the family. This was the Hale Family, after all. Thus, Fil knew Raul had something to do with it.
"Assistant Raul, is it really fine not to let them stay?" she asked quietly, worried about the chairman. "The chairman’s health is very weak and thinking about his health, isn’t it better to have his family by his side until he..."
She couldn’t finish her statement, but Raul already grasped what she meant.
"The chairman lived his life being surrounded by many people, both he liked and simply tolerated, Miss Fil. So, the chairman’s only wish is to enjoy his remaining time alone," he explained, which wasn’t a lie but also not the entire truth. "He considers it as some peace while he’s still alive."
"I see." Fil sighed and glanced at the door behind Raul.
"Thank you, Miss Fil." Raul expressed sincerely, making her look back at him. "Thank you for fulfilling the chairman’s last wish. I know it means the world to him to see you one last time."
It was strange for Fil that the chairman’s request was something like that. No matter how fond he was of her, she wasn’t his family. However, she didn’t question it, thinking the chairman only wanted to remind himself of his best friend, who was Fil’s grandfather.
"No, thank you, Assistant Raul," she returned. "Thank you for contacting me. I was able to thank him for all the years he looked after me and my family."
Raul smiled subtly, thinking if only Fil knew Felix wanted to do more than just that.
"Anyway, I prepared a driver and a car to drive you back," he offered kindly. "Shall I assist you there?"
Fil shook her head. "My fiance is waiting for me in the lobby, but thank you."
"I see. Very well. Then I shall walk you to the elevator."
"Assistant Raul, it’s alright," she chuckled. "The chairman needs someone by his side. I’d be more comfortable if I knew you were here with him. Besides, you should rest too."
Raul smiled helplessly but was not surprised. Fil had always been so considerate. So, even if Felix wasn’t her own father, he could see the chairman still being fond of her.
"Thank you for calling me again, Assistant Raul. You should also take care of yourself," she continued kindly. "I’m heading back now."
After the two exchanged pleasantries, Fil bid him farewell and strode off.
But just as she made a turn to the elevator, she stopped. Her eyes fell on Vincent.
Vincent was leaning against the wall as if waiting for someone. When he saw a figure from the corner of his eyes, he turned his head and quickly peeled his back from the wall.
"Fil," he called nervously.
A shallow breath slipped past Fil’s lips, resuming her steps with a plan to ignore him. Seeing her nonchalance, Vincent quickly rushed to her and matched her pace.
"Fil, why did my grandpa ask for you, hmm?" he asked without beating around the bush. "What did he tell you? Did he say something weird? You know Grandpa is old and sick he might blabber things."
When Fil stopped and pressed a button, she faced him with disappointment. "Vincent, you asked a lot of things, but never once did you ask how was your grandfather. Are you really this pathetic not to care about his well-being?"
"What?" Vincent almost choked, but he quickly recovered. "Of course, I care about his health. But if something bad happened, the emergency bell would’ve rung."
What a loser.
Fil shook her head and looked away from him. Who would believe such a lie? To think Felix kept apologizing to her for something his grandson did, she felt sorry for the chairman. Such a kind man, but his family was nothing but a selfish bunch, who were only interested in protecting their own interest.
Now, Fil understood why the chairman would rather be alone with Raul watching over him than have his family on his deathbed. They would just send off Felix with a heavy heart.
"Fil." Vincent suddenly clasped her arm, making her gaze down at it. "Did you hear me? I care about Grandpa, but I’m also curious why he asked for you."
Fil’s eyes sharpened, lifting her icy gaze at him. "Let me go."
"Can’t you just tell me?!" he clenched his teeth and gripped her arm tighter. "Is it something you can’t say? Is it supposed to be a secret?"
This time, Fil forcibly snatched her arm away from him.
"Vincent, what the chairman and I talked about is none of your business," she hissed. "But if you’re that curious, then I’ll tell you."
She faced him squarely and stood upright. "We talked about me and my upcoming wedding."
"What?"
"I told him the man I’m marrying is nothing like you and will never be like you. And to be honest, I saw your cheating as a blessing in disguise because if not, I would’ve married a pathetic loser," Fil was already panting after she said her piece. "Now, leave me alone before my fiance sees you. I can’t help you then."
DING!
The elevator produced a sound, and Fil glanced at it. Seeing that there were two nurses inside, she stepped in. Vincent wouldn’t be able to harass her inside the elevator.
Once she got in, Fil quickly pressed a button in hopes Vincent wouldn’t follow her. But he did at the last minute, making her expression turn sour.
However, with people in the elevator, he kept quiet.
Fil walked to the side of the elevator, telling herself she would get out if the nurses behind them would walk out. She would rather take the stairs than get stuck with Vincent in an elevator, even for a second.
Little did they know, the nurses behind them looked at each other. One of them glanced at Vincent as if hesitant about something. But the latter just nodded, as if giving him a signal.
While the two (Vincent and Fil) were unaware, one of the nurses pulled out a gun from his waist and knocked Vincent out from behind. The other one took Fil off guard and covered her mouth and nose with a cloth.fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
