Chapter 398: Chapter 398 – No Expectations

Sabrina had never considered the personal lives of people like Laura, so this blunt reminder left her feeling parched. Robin was about to say more when a voice interrupted.

"I’m back, where is she?" Jacob asked as soon as he walked out from the washroom. Laura punched him in the face, but this time he dodged the blow and Laura smiled,

"Not bad." It was hard for anyone to escape her attack, but Jacob did after learning his first lesson to not underestimate her.

"So, tell me about yourself," Jacob asked. Sabrina’s ears perked with curiosity, though her facial expressions remained unchanged. Laura frowned and said to Jacob,

"My personal life is confidential."

Surprisingly, Jacob found her response amusing and said to Robin,

"RJ, I think my mom and I would stay a few more days if it’s okay with you. I want to crack this bodyguard of yours."

Robin smiled at Sabrina’s thoughtfulness. Seems like her trick worked after all. Before Robin could respond, Laura spoke defiantly,

"You could try all you want but you will get nothing."

Jacob smirked, "I won’t be so confident if I were you. Don’t you work with the X-Agents?"

Laura paled at Jacob’s discovery, "How did you know?"

Jacob stared at her with interest, as he never expected that someone like Laura would gain his attention.

She was slightly shorter than Sabrina but had a very innocent look. You wouldn’t even imagine that she could hurt a fly.

"I will tell you when I’m done cracking you. Unless...." Jacob paused, staring at her with amusement.

"Unless what?" Laura asked eagerly, ready to do anything to keep her identity hidden. Her job and her private life were two different things. Even her apartment details were not known to Robin.

Jacob laughed internally, seeing how the tough girl suddenly paled from his little taunt. "Unless you agree to be my girlfriend."

Shock covered not only Laura’s eyes but that of both Robin and Sabrina. Sadly, due to the nature of Laura’s job, dating was the last thing on her mind, unless she went on an early retirement like she planned.

"You know that won’t work. I’m not the dating type," she said seriously before adding, "I’m not supposed to have a family." Sorrow flashed in her eyes but she blinked and it was gone.

Some things were better left buried in the past where they belong. Jacob’s brows raised, but her reluctance was a great challenge to him.

Whereas he found her reaction and answers to his questions interesting. "But you have feelings," he pointed out. Catching her determination, he explained it better, "Look. I haven’t dated anyone before. I just want to experience it."

"I have work," Laura reminded him, annoyed that he saw dating as an experiment. There were plenty of women out there eager to seize this opportunity, but not Laura. She would never make that mistake again.

Jacob, on the other hand, was persistent. It was almost the same level of persistence he used on Sabrina.

"Even married people have work. Don’t worry. I’m not willing to spend more than a month here so let’s just date for two weeks," he said casually.

Laura felt that it was going to be like one of those contractual dating arrangements but decided to warn him, "Don’t expect anything to develop between us."

Jacob nodded, and Robin whispered in his ear, asking, "How did you know the agency she worked for?"

Jacob laughed before getting serious and whispered back, "I don’t. I just guessed because they are the best, and the bodyguards I paid from there were worth the money."

"Smart trick," Robin said as his eyes caught something. Bending over, he picked up the newspaper on the chair and his eyes darkened. "JJ, why did you do this?"

Caption: A man by the name of Jacob Dwayne claims to be President Robin Jewel of the Jewel Group’s fraternal twin brother. He also confesses to being behind the recent scandal and his unedited confession is just below the caption.

"Until I found out that Robin was my twin brother, I hated him so much. But after settling our differences, I realized that he is a very great man. Even after all I did, he quickly forgave me and never mentioned it anymore."

"After my change of name is done, I will go by Jacob Jewel and I am only saying this for people to know that Robin kept his promise to his wife. He never cheated on her like I made the pictures look. Everything was orchestrated by me, and I was the one who sent it anonymously to the press."

Robin dropped the newspaper on the table and glared at his brother. "They can hate you for this. Is that what you want? Don’t you want to expand your business to this city?"

As Robin spoke, Sabrina beckoned Laura and they both went to the kitchen. Jacob was ready for anything.

He felt that what he did to his twin brother was unforgivable, but he also felt that a secret apology was not enough.

"It’s the truth. The populace has to know how much you have changed. It would also serve as a warning to anyone planning any harm against you. Your wife’s safety is paramount," Jacob explained.

Robin sighed frustratedly. He checked his phone and the news was already trending on social media. The comments disturbed him greatly.

"But people are requesting my response. They want to know if it’s true," Robin said, not wanting to make his brother look bad in front of the media, but that is exactly how it was going to be if he accepted everything to be true.

"Just do the right thing, RJ," Jacob shrugged. Robin shook his head thoughtfully, wondering when Jacob had sent this information. It must have been before he arrived last night or immediately after he left Robin’s office.

"I have an idea," Robin said after a little thought. Jacob asked curiously,

"And what is that?" He had no regret for what he had done, as he just wanted to correct his wrongs.
