Chapter 401: Chapter 401 – The Impossible Choice

"What are you talking about?" Robin was nervous and began to sweat. Sabrina had a healthy pregnancy throughout her nine months, so Robin was not expecting this. He was not prepared for it.

"Let’s talk in my office," the doctor said, but Robin shook his head in disagreement. If it was bad news, he didn’t think he would have the strength to recount everything to them after he returned.

Everybody here was family or a close pal, so he insisted, "Everybody here is family. Let them hear it."

The doctor took a deep breath and said with a sad countenance, "We can’t save both the mother and the twins."

Robin’s heart ached, and though he understood the meaning of the doctor’s words, he refused to accept it.

"What do you mean?" he growled, his chest raising up and down. The doctor took a deep breath and explained it once again to the anxious-looking family.

"If we save your wife, the twins would die, and if we save the twins, your wife would die." The color drained from Robin’s face, and grandma was hyperventilating.

Laura rushed to her side to comfort her as the doctor asked, "Should we save the twins?"

Nobody wanted to be in Robin’s shoes at the moment. How could a man choose between his wife and his children? They were both very dear to him.

At this time, no one could offer advice, and they all felt that in a case like this, there would be nothing like a wrong choice.

By the time Robin opened his mouth to speak, it was as if the doctor remembered something and added, "I also forgot to tell you that your wife might not be able to conceive ever again."

The atmosphere tensed up, and every gaze focused on Robin. This was his decision to make, and it would be good for him to make it alone.

Cobby was torn. He didn’t want to lose Sabrina and also didn’t want to lose his grandchildren. Devin already had tears in his eyes, feeling that he might not see his sister ever again.

Robin had always been desperate for children, and being put in a situation like this, Devin already knew Robin’s choice.

Lizzy’s eyes were already red, and Daniel could not look at Robin since he was unable to offer any kind of comfort to his best friend.

Jacob was so pained, as if he were directly feeling what his fraternal twin brother was feeling.

The news overwhelmed Ethel, and she began coughing, but luckily, Jacob brought her inhaler.

Everyone could already guess Robin’s choice but were surprised that it wasn’t what they thought it would be.

"Save my wife," Robin muttered. Because of the heaviness of the silence, his words were clear, and everybody was shocked.

If it were just one child, it would have been understood, but these were two lives, and yet, he was choosing his wife over both of his children.

The doctor was equally surprised and felt like Robin did not understand the seriousness of the situation.

"Are you sure? You would never have a child to call your own. You can always marry again, you know?"

Robin found the doctor’s words somehow irritating. If it were the former Robin, he would have chosen the twins, but now, he had learned so many things and all he wanted now was to enjoy his life with his wife, with or without children.

Glaring at the doctor, Robin yelled, "Shut up! Save my wife."

"Yes, sir!" The doctor said and left. Robin almost gave her a heart attack just by the way he glared at her.

After she left, Robin was in tears as everyone gathered around to comfort him. Only Matilda was distant.

"Hey, you can always adopt. There are kids out there who need love too," Jacob patted him on the back and said, but Robin shook his head.

They all thought he was grieving the loss of the children, but they misunderstood.

"I don’t care about kids. I just want my wife to be fine. I don’t care if we never have kids again, but I won’t be able to live without her."

Robin was afraid of things going wrong. He had gotten so used to having Sabrina in his life that he didn’t know how he would cope if anything happened to her.

His stance was shocking to everyone present, and Jacob even had to agree that his twin brother indeed loved his wife more than anybody or anything in the world.

Matilda had recorded Robin’s words and sent them to the doctor. A few minutes later, the doctor opened the door, and Robin rose to his feet.

"How is my wife? Where is she?" He was just eager to know that Sabrina was okay. The doctor forced a smile and replied,

"She wants to see you."

Robin sighed with relief. The doctor allowed him into the theater, and Sabrina smiled weakly, "I’m sorry, but I want you to have kids," she stated.

Her stomach was almost the same, and Robin was upset that the doctors were wasting time. However, his gaze softened, and his anger dissipated at the sight of his wife.

Quickly, he sat beside her and kissed her briefly on the lips, "No. I want you, my love. Please don’t do anything stupid."

Sabrina shook her head, ready to sacrifice her life for the twins. When the doctor informed her about Robin’s decision, she couldn’t accept it.

"Robin, I will never be able to conceive again. This is your only chance to be a father."

"No Sabrina, to hell with being a father. I only want to be a good husband to you. Children don’t matter to me anymore," a tear dropped down Robin’s cheeks as he spoke.

He felt that Sabrina was under partial anesthesia, as she had not moved her legs.

"But that was the cause of our problem before," Sabrina reminded him, but Robin shook his head with remorse and kissed the back of her hand.

"I am not that same person. I changed and so has my priorities," he said honestly.

Sabrina was amazed. This man was indeed different from the old Robin she knew and was sure that this change was permanent.

"Okay. I love you," she smiled and said, Robin kissed her again.

"I love you so much and I will be waiting for you."

Robin went back to the waiting area and minutes passed before the door to the theatre opened and the doctor announced, "Congratulations! Your wife gave you twins, a boy and a girl."

Robin was enraged as he grabbed the doctor’s collar. "What are you saying? Where is my wife? If she’s dead, then I will kill you. I told you to save my wife."
