The Ultimate War Of The Apocalypse-Chapter 698 - 691: Into the Tiger’s Den
Chapter 698: Chapter 691: Into the Tiger’s Den
Gao Yuan had expected to feel weightless or be flattened to the floor due to overload, but none of that happened, nothing occurred at all.
There was only a slight tremble, which made Gao Yuan feel a bit nauseous due to the sudden dizziness, when the Ark gave another mild shudder.
Without windows, he couldn’t see outside, but just as Gao Yuan was wondering if they had arrived, a huge exit appeared on the previously seamless wall of the hold.
The Ark could change shape, but that wasn’t the only astonishing thing about it.
Gao Yuan was the first one to rush out, then he involuntarily looked up.
The Ark had landed right beside the mothership, and in front of Gao Yuan was a structure at least four to five hundred meters tall; to the left was a black, curved wall, and to the right, still a curved wall.
Looking up, he couldn’t see the top, but judging by the mothership’s position, there was no doubt it had crashed uncontrollably to the ground.
Xinghe stood beside Gao Yuan, her mecha’s visor began emitting beams of green light, and when the flickering beams stopped, a projection that was clearly a building’s floor plan materialized in the air.
The Ark had scanned the mothership and then transferred the data to Xinghe, who projected the images with her mecha, so they didn’t have to stumble around blindly.
"This is the ship’s entry and exit point; the passage is behind it. The interior of the mothership is similar to that of human ships, so bear in mind the concept of ’up and down’."
After a brief explanation, Xinghe extended her hand forward and said, "The hull of the Serpent People’s mothership is thinner than I expected, designed specifically for the vacuum of space, not suitable for atmospheric flight. Now, cut open the hull."
Where Xinghe’s hand touched the mothership, smoke and bright light began to appear, and as she moved, a square cutout, one meter wide and two meters high, opened up.
When Xinghe casually threw the cut metal plate behind her, Gao Yuan noticed that the piece, which appeared to be a foot thick, seemed very light.
Curiosity led Gao Yuan to pick up the metal plate Xinghe had cut, and to his extreme astonishment, the metal plate in his hand was unbelievably light.
Gao Yuan was sure that the metal plate he held was lighter than foam board, and even though he was much stronger now, he dared affirm that the material, which looked like a metal plate, was much lighter than foam boards on Earth.
So, Gao Yuan casually passed the plate to Ram, who looked at him in surprise but did not dare to take it.
"Try it, it’s incredibly light."
Ram caught the plate, then immediately exclaimed, "It’s so light!"
Xinghe peered down, her movement causing Gao Yuan a sense of unease, and sure enough, she turned to Gao Yuan behind her and said, "Now is not the time to satisfy your curiosity. The Serpent People’s mothership requires ships for entry and exit, so every passage is designed for ships. Mecha 59 can’t get in, follow me."
Xinghe stood up, took a step, and then she disappeared into the dark breach, but immediately thereafter, her suit began to glow, serving as a humanoid flashlight.
Gao Yuan followed her in, he sniffed, and found the interior smell of the ship hard to describe, somewhat rotten, similar to the smell of rotten eggs, but it didn’t bother him.
"Can we breathe the air in here?"
Xinghe came to a halt, and after a brief pause, said, "The Serpent People have adjusted the air composition inside the spacecraft. The air here is now almost identical to the outside; there’s no need to acclimate—just breathe normally."
Having said that, Xinghe took a few steps forward to make way, and Gao Yuan, after looking around upon entering, frowned and asked, "Where is the core position of the mother ship, and where are the Serpent People mainly concentrated?"
Xinghe extended her hand toward the pitch-black sky, or rather, toward the middle position of the spacecraft.
Gao Yuan turned to address the outside, "Mecha, come in. Ram can stay here to provide energy, that’ll be fine."
Xinghe led the way, with Gao Yuan following behind, and Luo Xingyu behind Gao Yuan, followed by another mecha.
The Serpent People’s mother ship was so large that after entering it, Gao Yuan and his team still had the feeling of a long-distance raid. Imagine attacking the top floor of a hundred-story building, and being able to do so only on foot—that was the sort of concept they faced.
And the Serpent People’s mother ship was many times larger than a hundred-story building.
So when Gao Yuan started running after Xinghe, the Ram quickly disappeared from sight.
The Ram couldn’t possibly keep up with the speed of the mecha and Gao Yuan, so even though he wanted to join the battle, to do something, he was simply unable to keep up with the others’ pace.
The mecha’s running on the metallic framework produced a lot of noise, but as the thudding footsteps continued, the scenery Gao Yuan could see gradually changed.
They were still climbing along the framework, but now on the three-meter square frame, triangular ships that were fixed in place started to appear.
A mother ship is akin to a city, and just like a city, different areas are planned out. The route that Gao Yuan and his team were taking was carefully chosen; it was the farthest from where creatures were bred within the mother ship.
As they gradually climbed higher, Gao Yuan and his team reached mid-air, and the slope became steeper. But as they moved forward, he finally began to see the ship’s interior divided into layers.
However large, a mother ship is still a spacecraft, and of course, every inch of space must be used efficiently. Thus, this massive mother ship was ultimately divided into layers.
The height of each layer appeared to be about the same, almost all around twenty meters, which was still a lavish height for the interior of a spacecraft.
"Where are we now?"
"Don’t know. The power core is in the central position, the residential and work areas of the Serpent People are also central, and the part where creatures are manufactured occupies half the space. We are moving toward the Serpent People’s living and work areas. This spacecraft has lost all power, and the Serpent People have made the same choice as us—the power for the small ships is provided by the mother ship, without independent engines. So, with the mother ship losing power, the small ships are paralyzed as well, which means the Serpent People can no longer leave this spacecraft."
Curious, Gao Yuan took a good look around. The space was still vast and open, not at all like the corridors everywhere and the various rooms or cabins he had imagined. The interior of the Serpent People’s mother ship seemed even closer to a natural environment—of course, this was an environment adapted for the Serpent People.
"How much farther do we have?"
Without hesitation, Xinghe said, "Twelve kilometers left."
Having to run twelve kilometers inside the spacecraft, and having lost the small ships, the Serpent People really were in a bad position to leave their mother ship.
