Chapter 699: Chapter 692 Just Watching

Three mechas and one person, the Ram had been far left behind, and a sealed space finally appeared in the vast and dark expanse, but Gao Yuan had no leisure to stop and investigate.

Now was not the time for satisfying curiosity; what mattered most was to exterminate the Serpent People inside the mothership before they could use any last-ditch effort.

Over six billion people on Earth, and no one knew how many were left now. The hatred of Earthlings for the Serpent People didn’t require any incitement. If there was the slightest chance, the merest possibility, they would bite to death a Serpent Person with their teeth.

A distance of several kilometers meant little to Gao Yuan, but when he was still some distance away from the core area, there finally came a sound.

There was still no light, but there was sound now.

A sudden roar erupted, reverberating back and forth in the quiet interior of the spaceship; the echo made the massive roar last an especially long time.

Xinghe immediately stopped in his tracks, and after Gao Yuan halted following him, the light on Xinghe’s body instantly disappeared.

"We’re very close now, this is..."

After pondering for a moment, Xinghe said in a low voice, "It’s a sound not in the database, most likely a monster. Did the Serpent People release a monster?"

Luo Xingyu, however, said softly, "Can the Serpent People still control those monsters?"

Approaching the core area ahead, the interior of the spaceship began to show more detail, invoking scenes one might see in a science fiction movie. Yet it was only in part—for in some respects, the human imagination came close to the actual starship, but in other respects, it still fell short.

For instance, humans imagined spaceships to be too domesticated. There were no automatic doors inside the ship of the Serpent People, but there were arches instead, tall and majestic, very ancient and grand.

These arches lacked the sci-fi color humans might imagine, but instead were filled with a classical style, eerier as if crafted by a primitive civilization rather than one capable of interstellar travel.

Each arch was a passageway connecting different levels; one obvious fact was that within the starship capable of space travel, the concept of ’up’ and ’down’ wasn’t clear, and the concept of ’flat ground’ also seemed to have little significance.

Crouching on the heavily slanted metal floor, Gao Yuan listened intently, and at this moment, another massive roar sounded.

"This voice..."

Gao Yuan seemed to discern some emotion in the voice; he knew it was an illusion, but he truly felt that the voice was filled with the pleasure of revenge.

Gao Yuan didn’t articulate his feelings, but Luo Xingyu quickly followed up, "Why do I feel this voice sounds very satisfying?"

Gao Yuan looked toward Luo Xingyu. It was pitch black now, but Luo Xingyu’s face, illuminated by the light source inside her helmet, was very clear.

"You have that feeling too?"

Luo Xingyu nodded solemnly, then said softly, "I just feel that the voice sounds very satisfying."

Xinghe said in a low voice, "Let’s go see and find out what’s happening. Now, I think the likelihood that it’s a monster deliberately released by the Serpent People is not high."

If it wasn’t a monster actively released by the Serpent People, then it could only be... the monster had escaped?

With this doubt in mind, Gao Yuan followed behind Xinghe, and they ran hand in hand.

Gao Yuan could no longer see anything, but since everyone else had night-vision equipment, he had no choice but to hold Xinghe’s hand and run.

The space began to get complex, yet there was nothing that needed to be broken through in order to progress, and at this time, objects resembling iron cans started to appear around Gao Yuan.

By now, the technological level of the Serpent People was evident—there were no complicated pipelines, but it was clear that those fully sealed containers were for cultivating organisms, essentially for breeding monsters.

Movies like to use transparent containers, but it was obvious that the containers actually used didn’t need to be transparent, because with mature technology, mass cultivation of monsters was no different from farming.

Surrounding them were rows of containers, with a corridor more than ten meters wide in the middle, but at the end of the corridor was a gate.

There were no gates that could open automatically now, only destruction was an option, and as Xinghe placed his hand on the gate, just as a slender gap was cut, the silence was instantaneously shattered.

Roars, shrieks, and the faint cries mixed within drifted out from the newly created gap.

When Xinghe cut through the not-so-thick metal gate enough for the Mecha to pass, Gao Yuan saw flashes of light and heard the monsters roaring.

Blinding lights streaked past, and during the brief moments of illumination, one could see strangely shaped, indistinguishable monsters being sliced apart, but the flashes of light concentrated on a very small platform, while the roaring monsters launching their assault came from all directions.

"What happened?"

The blind Gao Yuan was growing impatient, and at that moment, Xinghe squatted down, giving him a monocular night-vision device.

Gao Yuan, unable to wait, raised the night-vision device, and then, he saw a scene all too familiar.

In the center of the spaceship was a huge cylinder that appeared to be the engine or something similar, and the cylinder was not connected to the surrounding parts, creating an area akin to an atrium.

Ascending from the bottom of this atrium, the protruding decks of the spaceship formed a platform where now at least a few hundred people were huddled together, and all around, above and below, were various kinds of monsters.

It couldn’t be said that good and evil will always get their due retribution, but now, the Serpent People must be experiencing the fear and pain of humanity, understanding what it means to get burnt playing with fire.

A giant beast that looked very much like a dinosaur roared once more beneath the platform where the Serpent People were gathered, and the monsters that were somewhat disorderly from attacking each other immediately ceased their infighting.

Under the command of a massive monster, the creatures were assaulting the Serpent People.

Without needing Xinghe’s explanation, Gao Yuan understood what had happened—the Serpent People had lost power, and the monsters they had cultivated were out of control.

Xinghe, still accustomed to explaining, said, "The Serpent People’s security measures have failed, the monsters have escaped, and the weapons the Serpent People can use are very limited; they’re done for, these Serpent People are doomed!"

They hadn’t done anything since they got in, and now it seemed they didn’t need to do anything at all.

Xinghe looked to Gao Yuan and asked, "What shall we do? Should we take this opportunity to eliminate the monsters and the Serpent People together?"

Gao Yuan really wanted to kill those Serpent People with his own hands, but now, he suddenly changed his mind.

"No, I want to watch the Serpent People be slaughtered by the monsters they’ve created, just as they did to the humans. We do nothing; we just watch."
