Trapped In A Novel As The Breeding Mate For Four Powerful Alphas-Chapter 29: Do you work overtime?
Chapter 29 - Do you work overtime?
Cha Hyun-woo checked my heartbeat and also checked my eyes before turning to the nearly emptied drip bag.
"Once this is done, I'll take it off. For now, you're as good as healed."
Wow, so soon? I had a fever in the morning or was it noon, but it was almost completely healed by evening. Was it the Technology in this world that had advanced or was this just money talking?
"I can't believe you have a fever on your third day here." Hyun-woo mumbled.
I couldn't believe it either. I wasn't that weak in my real body.
"But since you're well-rested, I don't think there's anything to worry about." He said and then glanced at Ki-hoon whose eyes did not leave my face. Gosh, it almost felt like he planned to dig a hole in my face. "I would like to run some tests to see if it was due to the sudden change in environment but I don't think it's necessary right now. Everything has a procedure so I'll just keep observing for now."
"Alright, thank you doc." I said with a friendly smile, though it was awkward that Ki-hoon wouldn't stop staring at me.
Ah, had I attached a leach to myself by chance?
"The maids are preparing dinner." Hyun-woo said.
"Wait, dinner? What time is it?" I asked, surprised, and looked towards the drawn curtains. It was definitely dark but so soon? How long did u sleep for?
"It's past seven." Ki-hoon answered.
"Really? That's odd." I placed my hand on my belly. "I don't feel hungry and I haven't eaten all day."
"That is thanks to the drip substituting food nutrients in your body," Hyun-woo explained. "You might not feel hungry but you still have to eat."
"Alright," I said as I nodded.
He took one good look at me and said,
"Though it's such a hassle and not exactly part of my job since I'm not getting paid for the extra service, I gave them a few dish recommendations that would be good to boost your health and rejuvenate your lost weight."
"Wow, that's so thoughtful. Thank you, doc."
He looked at me and sighed, closing his eyes lazily. He was such a sloth.
"Master," I called out to Ki-hoon.
"What is it, Jo-Pil?"
"Does the doctor work overtime?" I asked, and he looked at me before turning to Cha Hyun-woo, who was probably wondering what I was up to.
"Cha Hyun-woo," he called.
"Yes, sir?"
"Do you work overtime?" He asked and Hyun-woo took a moment before answering.
"No,"
What? Really?
"Then is it normal for doctors to work around this time outside their workplace?"
"He's a personal doctor, catering to the heads of the four families, and gets paid handsomely for each treatment. Even when he doesn't need to treat any wound or sick, he still gets paid so long he's our active doctor." His gaze traveled to Cha Hyun-woo. "He mostly only does a regular monthly check-up since neither of us gets sick that often, so maybe that's why he seems overworked with this situation."
Yeah, definitely.
"And he likes money a lot so he'd generally complain for anything that's not putting money in his pocket."
"So, recommending dishes that are good for my diet feels like work, too, huh?" I asked, surprised. I thought I understood this character but I was wrong.
The only thing I knew was that he fancied money, though he was loyal. Instead of allowing himself to get bribed, no matter the amount, he would rather take the matter to the four Alphas and sell the info to them for that same amount, or even more.
God knows what he's using all that money for because he wasn't a heavy spender either.
Wait, was he?
So little was explored of this side character that I found myself feeling curious about his existence in this novel. What were his hobbies and interests besides counting money? What were his daily activities like when he wasn't treating the sick Jo-Pil?
I was curious.
"Then, I'm sorry doc." I said with a smile. "I don't have money or authority but if I did, I'd definitely pay you for your useful advice and recommendations."
Cha Hyun-woo stared at me with a skeptical gaze as if I was someone plotting some scheme but since he could not exactly figure it out, he looked away and said,
"Worry about yourself first before you worry about paying me for my service." He said and I nodded.
"Yes, doc."
"Hyun-woo, if your recommendation helps Jo-Pil faten up faster then I'll pay you." Ki-hoon suddenly said, and I turned to him, surprised.
Oh my, I was so touched. He would go so far for me?
"Sure," Hyun-woo responded, suddenly sounding informal.
He carefully took out the needle from my veins and pressed down on that tiny spot with a small lump of cotton to avoid spilling out any blood.
With the help of the maids, they were able to take down the drip set. While they did that, other maids went to the window, spread the curtains, and allowed fresh and cold air to seep into the room.
They were probably ventilating the place because it smelled like a hospital ward. They didn't need to be told before they did that.
They were such professionals.
"Since there's nothing else, I'll get going."
I watched him head towards the door and then turned to Ki-hoon.
"Master," I called. "Are you really going to pay the doctor for the food recommendation if I regain my weight sooner than later?"
"Yes, why do you ask?"

I looked him dead in the eye, his serious gaze told me he wasn't joking. Gosh, money must come easy for these people.
I simply said that to Hyun-woo to soften his image of me even though it only ended up making him suspicious of my intentions. But still...
"It's nothing." I said, turning away. "I just found it strange."
Ki-hoon looked at me and out of nowhere, he laughed.
It caught me off guard and I turned to see him laughing softly.
Christ, what had come over this man? Why was he acting so unlike his character today? It was starting to make me feel worried.
Was this a 'calm before the storm' kind of setting?
I couldn't even comfortably enjoy his change because his actions from now on would be completely unpredictable to me, throwing out the leverage I had as a reader who knew the entire plot. So as the rest of them.
If I ended up changing all of them, changing their course of action in the future, my knowledge of them would become useless.
The only thing I could put my hopes on was the direction of the plot, the events that would unfold, and my future enemies.
